Stone Mountain-Magnificent March

We have often climbed Stone Mountain with clear blue skies but it is just as beautiful on a cloudy day.  (That is me with the white bag on my shoulder, I have warmed up walking up the mountain...but it is quite windy, so in the other photos, I am wearing my pink jacket again!)

Once we were climbing the mountain and a family was just behind us.  We heard one of the children say,  "Look, Mom, it's NEW YORK CITY!"   (That's the Atlanta skyline, of course.)

Look at the photo above, the people have just gotten off the cable car and are walking on top of the mountain....they look tiny!

Very happy to see such beautiful specimens of trout lilies on Stone Mountain, they were lovely!

Just as we were leaving, the sun broke through the clouds...magnificent!

Pat, my friend from the Isle of Lewis...you can see I am still walking the walk up OUR mountain!

And you know I told you about the Easter sunrise service?  I am hoping that next year I will be able to attend it on top of Stone Mountain!

During the Easter service yesterday, we didn't sing "I Love To Tell The Story" but it was mentioned in the sermon...so I have it for here.  It is sung by Emmy Lou Harris and Robert Duvall.  Enjoy!

Hope you all liked our walk up Stone Mountain.  All of the photos are from March 23, 2015...we took that day off from work.  Magical!

  1. You are right, Stone Mountin (like all such places, be it at the Sea, on top of a mountain or elsewhere in nature) is great in all kinds of weather. I am glad you had a chance to take a day off, you both work so hard!
Any chances of you getting to England this year?

    1. We so seldom have time off from work at the same time so we really enjoyed it! We don't have any set plans for a visit to England, we try for every two years but I wish I could go every year!

  2. Hello Kay,

One can easily imagine that one is on the top of the world having reached the summit of Stone Mountain. And, how wonderful to find the Erythroniums thriving there. One never ceases to be amazed at how some plants cling to life in the most inhospitable of circumstances.

    1. Hello Jane & Lance!
Reaching the summit and looking for miles in all directions certainly makes one feel like being on top of the world! And you are also correct in the wonder that I feel every time I see the exquisite flowers and plants thriving in just a few inches of soil on top of that hard rock. We should learn a lesson from it!

  3. Lovely, thank you for the walk up Stone Mountain. I enjoyed that - I remember the skyline well - magnificent. I am so glad that it is the "Walking up Stone Mountain" season again. Wouldn't mind an amble around Carloway Gardens either - when you have the time! Now off for my walk with Briagha but this will be in the pouring rain today AGAIN! x

    1. Oh Pat, I am glad you enjoyed it!
And we wanted to get to Callaway Gardens when Richard had some time off, but the weather was pretty bad for that brief period, wouldn't you know.
Give your sweet Briagha a pat on the head for me! xx

    1. Stone Mountain is very popular. Most of the people in the photo would have come up on the cable cars...you can tell the ones that have walked up, we are not camera perfect like the cable car people are...we are windswept and disheveled! The views are wonderful! xx

    1. Yes, I love her and I really like Robert Duvall also. I like him as an actor and a person. Did you know that his first role was as Boo Radley in "To Kill A Mockingbird"? That is one of my favorite movies AND books!

    1. I know! And THIS year, the winds were so strong that they had to cancel the cable cars going up, so there were not that many people up there on top of the mountain! (They also have a service at the base of the mountain). Wish I could have been there!

  8. Didn't know Mr Duvall was a singer. Learned all the words to Evangeline years ago from an Emmylou album as it's a classic song and easy to sing in public as it's fairly short. Stone Mountain looks amazing in any weather.

  14. Robert Duvall sings!??? I have always loved this song, Kay! And I do love your Stone Mountain! The mountain top in the fourth photo could easily be mistaken for Peggy's Cove, but it's by the ocean and yours is by NYC! What a long distance you can see from the top! Don't you just love children! I'll be chuckling about that all day. And kudos to you and Richard for taking the day off from work and going out to enjoy a gorgeous day! XOX!

    1. Yes, that Robert Duvall is a man of many talents! I have never been to Peggy's Cove but as a travel agent, I had some folks who told me that was one of their favorite places they had visited! I love kids, don't you, they make me laugh! xx
