Arabia Mountain- I Cannot Hold Thee Close Enough!

At Arabia Mountain - the color of the rock in the sun, the clear water in the pools, the bright and beautiful sky above, the beginning of the Autumn foliage and the last of the wildflowers, all combine to create such incredible beauty...all in one place and close to me.   I am grateful.

I am also most grateful for all who left such sweet comments on my last post wishing my dear father-in-law a happy birthday.   The quote from my post title is from a poem by Edna St. Vincent Milay, and it is really "World, I cannot hold thee close enough".  And so I say, that is true too, I am saying this to all of you from all parts of this world.   I am thankful.

O world, I cannot hold thee close enough!
Thy winds, thy wide grey skies!
Thy mists, that roll and rise!
Thy woods, this autumn day, that ache and sag
And all but cry with colour!   That gaunt crag
To crush!   To lift the lean of that black bluff!
World, World, I cannot get thee close enough!

    1. Honestly, there are still lots of people who see nothing here, it is just a rock to them, and not even a very big rock, like Stone Mountain. It is their loss!

  3. Those really are some incredible views. I should probably take advantage of the ones near me. I think people just have trouble going to the tourist spots near them when they aren't tourists.

    1. When you marry someone from another country, it makes you see your local surroundings in a different light and for me that has always been a good thing.

    1. Arabia Mountain is only three miles from I-20, a major interstate. You would never know it when you are on the top of the mountain though, it is surrounded by trees and those clouds above you...like heaven!

  6. You've reminded me of the church hymn, "For the Beauty of the Earth."

    1. OH thank you so much, I didn't know that hymn but you are so right, it fits this perfectly! And since the hymn writer was English, that makes it just perfect.

    1. Our colors will be late this year, I think, I only saw that one tree with a few red leaves, but thought it looked pretty against the sky!

  9. Somewhat off-topic......Did I ever mention to you the book Dear Stephanie, Dear Paul written by older friends who once ran a bookstore I loved.....The were English and American and met and then married from their pen pal letters just post WWII.

If you have not read this, you might really enjoy it since you also were pen pals with your husband.

    1. Wish you could have been with us this day, Meike! The sky was amazing and there was a small flock of birds with dazzling white on their sides that flashed in the late afternoon sun and we happily watched them twittering all around us. Heavenly, that is what it seemed like to me!
