Stone Mountain- A Special Place



You can take a cable car to the top of Stone Mountain or you can walk up.  We walk!
I have been asked to show some photos of Stone Mountain on my blog by a sweet friend that I have met through blogging.  And since I do what I am told (well, sometimes anyway!), here they are! Hope everyone else enjoys these too!  Pat, hope these photos will bring back some nice memories of your visit to Georgia!



This year, we had a very short autumn in Georgia.  The leaves took a long time to change colors, so we had a lovely but abbreviated Fall.  Don't believe me?  We went to Stone Mountain on Oct. 27th, and if you look closely at these photos, you will see that the leaves on the trees are still very green and it looks (and felt!) like summer.
 
 


We think this might be Panola Mountain in the distance...it's in the right direction.

Never too hot for a coffee! (Look at Stone Mountain Lake, isn't it beautiful!)


Tennis anyone? Finally found someone with a head as big as mine!







This photo shows just how green it still was. We have read that the trees receive minerals that wash off of Stone Mountain and that is why they are so beautifully healthy. 

If you know of anyone visiting in the Atlanta area, make sure and tell them to visit Stone Mountain.
It truly is special.

    I never tire of seeing photos of the area Kay. Somehow I hadn't appreciated how near it is to Atlanta. I've never looked at a map of the area. I must do that.

      I'm glad you liked these photos! We were a bit disappointed that the trees had not turned just yet, but as you can see, it's still beautiful! And yes, it is very close to Atlanta, if you look at my Youtube account, we have a video on there from Stone Mountain (On Top Of Stone Mountain)...the account is youtube.com/kayrich83
      (I am in that video, see if you can spot me, in a pink shirt under one of the few trees on top of the mountain!)

    It is a beautiful place, and your pictures show that very well. It does indeed still look very summery, and not at all like what you'd expect to find at the end of October.

      The most incredible thing, within days of these photographs, it rained and the temperature dropped and leaves changed almost overnight! Our leaves were different this autumn, some trees not as colorful and some more colorful than ever! (The yellows seemed to be more intense this year). I'm not complaining, mind you, just being observant! I love the Autumn with the change of leaves, it is truly spectacular!

    I enjoyed many a trip up that mountain growing up but can't climb it anymore. Thanks for the trip up it again!

      Even when I can no longer climb it (and I know that day will come) we are so lucky that we can then use the cable car! See you at the top! :-)

      ALL of my blogging friends are sweet except for one grouchy guy from Scotland and one grumpy guy from the USA, not mentioning names, but Crackerhead, you know who you are! JUST KIDDING!! Love you guys!

      It IS a most extraordinary spot and one that I wish was appreciated a bit more for its natural beauty rather than for what has been carved into the stone or put upon the grounds.

    Here in Washtucna we have a special place, which I will soon be missing. It's Palouse Falls. I think I will post some winter pictures of it with my next sermon. Moving back to my home town to search for a call to a church, the landmark will be the Sutter Buttes. Even with my hiatus from preaching I may post some thoughts and sow some pictures of them.

      I just looked up Palouse Falls and then, the Sutter Buttes...so beautiful!!
      (I remembered the name "Sutter" and identified it with the Gold Rush in California, and I am happy that I remembered that!)
      Now, I hope that you are okay and that your moving back is a positive thing for you! Please don't stop blogging. I really like to read your sermons. I wanted to leave a comment on the one where you spoke of Joseph, I am looking for a prayer that I have in a book somewhere, I wanted to leave it as a comment on there, I will find it!!
      Hope you will find a church when you move back. I wish I could hear you preach. God be with you.

      Thanks, Rebecca! You would be so excited on this mountain, whether you went by cable car or walked up! Everyone becomes a kid on this mountain, no matter what their age!! Hope you are enjoying that sweet baby brother! xx

    Wow! You can really see why it's called Stone Mountain. It's magnificent! I love the beauty berries too. The color is so striking.

      Stone Mountain IS magnificent!
      And would you believe it, lots of people filed past those beautyberries while we were there and hardly any of them took any notice of them. You can find that bush with either white or purple berries. You know which one I prefer! xx

    Looks a magnificent mountain. In that last photo you can really see the comparison with Uluru ( Ayers Rock) in Australia, another prominent monadnock that soars upwards from a level plain. Like the view towards Atlanta. Big boulders rock!

      Oh yes! My sister lived in Australia and when she was there, she climbed Ayers Rock! She said that they tell you AFTERWARDS that people have died climbing it, but they don't tell you that until after you have already made the climb! I loved her photos of Australia, would love to see it. ONE DAY! :-)
