Happy Father's Day Weekend!

THE BEST BISCUITS EVER!!! (Made by my Dad!)

Happy Father's Day to Pee-TAH, My English Father-in-law! xx

Happy Father's Day to My Dad!  xx

Happy Father's Day to C's Dad, too!   xx

Father's Day is this Sunday!  Why don't we  celebrate it for the whole weekend and call it a Father's Day WEEKEND, isn't that a good idea? We could do the same for Mother's Day too.  After all, where we would be without our parents? Nowhere, that's where!  I hope that all of you are able to get together with your Dads and have a great day/weekend.  If you no longer have your Dad, then I hope you will remember him and honor him in your heart.

What is your FAVORITE memory of your childhood that involved your Dad?  (I have a lot myself, but seeing fireworks for the first time with my Dad, and seeing the ocean for the first time...those two memories stand out for me.  He didn't make a big deal about it, he let me see both of those, fireworks and the ocean, almost by surprise, so it made a BIG impression! In other words, he let me discover them for myself, so to speak!)

I have been busy lately.  I am going to a wedding on Saturday and just had to have a new dress! After buying said dress, I decided I needed to crochet a small wrap to wear it with it....could I make one just one week before the wedding? Not sure, but I am giving it a good try! Also, had to crochet a small gift to go with the wedding present...and while I am at it, why don't I crochet a small heart to attach to the wedding present gift bag? Oops...Richard needs more miracle cookies, had to make those too!  Between crocheting, severe thunderstorms, work demands, and a slow computer, I have not been able to visit with you very much.  I am sorry and I hope to do better!

Now, don't forget to tell me your favorite story with your Dad!  Even if you no longer have him with you, you can still recall happy memories.

Love Always to all the Dads and to you!! xx

  1. When I was five, my Dad surprised me on my birthday with 2 rabbits and a rabbit hutch he had built himself. Like you and the fireworks and ocean, my Dad let me discover the gift on my own. I think it was the most exciting moment of my childhood!

    1. Thanks so much for sharing this memory, Debra!
Your dad built the rabbit hutch himself, that even makes it more memorable! A rabbit had babies in our back yard one year, those baby rabbits were the cutest baby animals I have ever seen.
So glad to see your comment here!!

  2. Isn't it sad, I'm having a hard time thinking of a happy time with my father. I was not abused, but we all were belittled and scorned by him. He did a great job at providing for us and denied us little. Materially I had a good life, but no father/daughter relationship, only conflict, negativity and put-downs. Now that I am older I understand some of it and where it came from and why. Some of it made me stronger and some of it gave me insecurities. The day he died I cried for ten hours straight -- for what might have been. So you who had wonderful fathers, be very thankful this weekend.

    1. Oh Chris, I am so sorry you had such a rough relationship with your Dad and I'm sorry if I brought back any negative feelings to you. Understanding why a person acts the way he/she does is the way towards forgiveness. Do you remember the song "Teach Your Children Well"? "And you, of the tender years, can't know the fears, that your elders grew by
And so please help, them with your years, they seek the truth before they can die."
Once again, thank you for your comment. And I must tell you that you and your sister are both so talented, I am glad that you had the strength and wisdom to overcome your childhood!

  3. This is such a sweet post, Kay. Please enjoy a wonderful Fathers Day. My poor husband is about as far away from our children than he can possibly be. Our son is in Dhaka, Bangladesh and our daughter will be in South Korea. It's a crazy month. It is wonderful to honor all our parents on these special days.

  5. Father's Day in Germany was last month; we never do anything specific on that day, just like for Mother's Day, my parents never wanted that.

My Dad taught me LOTS when I was little, he knows a great deal about animals (especially birds and woodland animals) and plants. He told me the names of trees, and can identify almost every bird by the sound they make. He often took my sister and me on outings, to give my Mum a bit of a rest on weekends. He worked VERY hard but never said he didn't have time for us or was too tired for us when he was at home.
When my sister and I would be bickering, he would sit us down together, reasoning with us how we really had no reason to fight but insteand that we had every reason to love each other for being sisters.
There's so many great memories from my childhood! My Dad is now 71, and I hope that he'll be around for many more years.

Love your post, Kay - all three of "your" fathers deserve the best Father's Day (or weekend)!

And you know that, now that you've mentioned it, I want to see that dress :-)

    1. Oh, I love your childhood memories of your Dad, thanks for sharing this! Your Dad can identify almost every bird by their song? I want to go to Germany and meet him and walk with him and listen to the birds with him!!

We just had a great Father's Day, I even got to talk on the phone with Pee-TAH!

HA! You would have had to have been at that wedding to see me in a dress! ;-)

Hope you will enjoy a lovely summer on your island. xx

  7. Kay, this was a wonderful tribute to all the dads in your family's lives. Sadly, both our fathers have passed, but we have a son-in-law who is an amazing dad to our 2 young grandchildren. I remember my dad as being someone who was always there for me and who I would have done anything for.

  9. I have so many wonderful memories of my father that I don't even know where to start. He was so warm and loving, and his family was the most important thing in the world to him. It's hard to choose one memory, but the first time he put his granddaughter (my firstborn) in her baby carriage and took her for a walk...well, I can't tell you how overwhelmed I was watching him with her. He was so proud as he walked down the street with her; eager to show the world his precious granddaughter.

A lovely Father's day weekend to all dads everywhere, no matter where they may be. And those biscuits look so delicious. I tried reaching through the screen to help myself to one, but just couldn't do it...LOL...

Thank you for sharing that memory here. From your description, I can just see your Dad proudly taking his granddaughter out in the pretty baby carriage for the first time!
I understand wanting to reach through the screen for the biscuits, don't they look good? Come to Georgia and eat yourself some biscuits!! xx

    1. Oh yes, it was a very nice day!
Now, Jerry, it seems that I remember that you didn't have a great relationship with your Dad. I am sorry and I do know that days like Father's Day might bring some sorrow and regret, but I hope that you will forgive your Dad and also forgive YOURSELF for any hard feelings. Easy for me to say I know, but I believe that it is very important.

  12. A whole weekend sounds great! My favorite dad stories are about what a fabulous doctor he was, and seeing movies together. Mostly James Bond movies. We always went to those.

  13. My Dad loved to carry me out into the ocean on our beach vacations. He absolutely loves the ocean and walks out until only his head is visible. I'm quite the opposite and barely go in up to my knees! But I always loved when he carried me out! And I do really love seeing him with my girls. I hope you guys have a lovely, lovely weekend! Hope you were able to finish your wrap and you enjoyed the wedding!

    1. You are like my sister, she would run from the waves and my parents couldn't keep me out of the water, so much that they had to fish me out of the water a couple of times!
Thanks for sharing your Father memories!

It was a nice wedding. I COULD have finished the wrap, but when I picked it up again, I could NOT remember what stitch I had been using, so I had to finish it off as a cowl. No matter, it was 90 degrees, so I didn't need a wrap anyway!!

  14. Beautiful sky/cloud photo Kay!
And good to 'meet' your Dads too.
My Dad is 97 next week and one favourite memory is when he would take us kids for a 'Sunday drive' and we never knew where it would be. They always ended with an ice-cream!
Thanks Kay for jogging my memory and have a great day with your Dads!!

Happy Birthday to your Dad next week!! I like the idea of driving and being surprised at where the journey will take you. It goes along with my Dad letting me discover the ocean and fireworks! And often, we would end up somewhere too with ice cream or cherry cokes!!

  15. I hope all the wonderful Dads in your family had a lovely weekend, Kay. My favorite memory of my father is going to hurling and Gaelic football matches with him. You see I had no brothers, and my two sisters had little interest in sport. Going to a match with Dad was my special time. I have so many fond memories of weekend afternoons spent in the stands at Croke Park in Dublin, eating an ice cream cone and watching the games. Thanks for bringing back such lovely memories.
    All the best,
    Mairead

  16. Happy Father's Day to your family of great Dads! I was blessed with a super cool Dad...He died when I was 23 and I miss him everyday. I have many wonderful memories of him...one involved a bad house fire that destroyed most of our home when I was 10. I remember standing on the lawn crying, watching the firemen putting out the fire and all our possessions all over the lawn or burning in the house..he put his arm around me and told me that all that was just "stuff"...and the house would be rebuilt. But we were all safe and that was the only thing that was important to him..his family.

    1. Oh, I am sorry that you lost your great Dad at such an early age! And having your house burn at the age of 10!
What a great Dad, to show you at such an early age what is most important in life, not stuff but family.
Thank you for sharing this. xx

Here is one of my favourite memories of my Dad:

He is still going (fairly) strong, thank God.

P.S. I hope we'll get to see that crochet project! And a photo of you in your dress. I have a very hard time finding dresses I like these days - don't know if it's me or the styles out there. Probably both.

  18. Thanks, Sue! You would love those biscuits!!

I also have a hard time finding dresses, for me, I am sure that is my body and not the styles!
I would be so embarrassed for you to see my crochet, you are so good at it.
Now, I LOVE your story about your Dad having the elaborate train set up every year at Christmas and what's more, I am glad that he let his kids in on the fun! That is a great story, thank you for sharing that! :-)

  19. Please don't misunderstand me Kay. My Dad was very, very important to me and very much loved. Father's Day was, however, purely a commercial creation (unlike Mothering Sunday with which I had grown up) and I have never really recognised it.
