Henry David Thoreau, "Faith In A Seed: The Dispersion of Seeds and Other Natural History Writings"
The sweet gum tree on the right is in our front yard and came up in one of the flower beds. Richard let it grow and we are amazed at how quickly it has grown. In Autumn, the leaf color is mostly yellow, with some reddish leaves, and here and there, leaves that are so dark purple that they are almost black. Lovely tree with leaves like five-pointed stars but because it is a native tree and very common, many people do not care for it.
The photo of our front yard was taken by me just before we got in our car to go to Alexander Lake and the Rockdale River Trail which is at Panola Mountain! The early morning mist over the lake, the sound of the birds, the bright reds and yellows of the foliage, the fresh smell of lake and trees, and the sun upon our faces made for a very nice morning.
Oh my gosh! These are such spectacular photos! I love the photo of the mist on the lake Wow!
ReplyDeleteDear Kay,
DeleteThanks! Richard took all the photos on our walk.
And I love all the photos from your trip to Illinois, fantastic!
Spectacular truly is the right word here! These are so beautiful, Kay; they really could make great posters, postcards or a calendar.
ReplyDeleteDear Meike,
DeleteYou know the way that you encouraged me to have my own blog, I hope the same will happen for Richard with his photography. I also think his shots are really, really good! Thank you so much, my friend!
Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful pictures, Kay. Your shot across the lake is stunning. How blessed we are to have such beauty around us.
ReplyDeleteDear Tracey,
DeleteThanks and Richard, of course!, took all these shots, I just took the first one in our front yard!
We are lucky to have the natural beauty but we are also blessed to notice it, so many do not!
oh my goodness Kay. Stunning photos! Autumn is a photographers dream! x
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kate! It is!
DeleteAnd you know the little photo you have there? At first, I thought it was a walrus, instead of two little birds, how funny am I?
What a great tour. No wonder you are so fit! Lucky lass.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed it! And yes, I am so fit, I am so fit...if I say it often enough, maybe it will be true! HA HA. I am lucky though, I can walk and gaze to my heart's content, knowing that Richard will take all these great photos to remind me of it!
DeleteBeautiful images, Kay! I love the one of you walking along the trail. And is that really your backyard? I love it! Autumn is such a beautiful season.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Martha! Richard took these of course! And only that last photo shows our house with a tree behind it, I have a tiny backyard but our birds LOVE it!
DeleteWhat beautiful trees! North Georgia definitely is better looking in the Fall than it is down here. A couple of years ago we rented a cabin up near Blue Ridge and the trees were incredible.
ReplyDeleteI lived in St. Mary's and Moultie when I was a teenager and I remember that there was not a big change of color in the Fall...the good side of it is that you are closer to the beaches there, so you have to remember the positive side of it! :-)
DeleteThanks for the lovely walk :) Your fall colours are so brilliant - spectacular! I sure wish they'd lasted a bit longer at our end.
ReplyDeleteDear Jane,
DeleteYou are welcome! And our colors have just come out the past week or so, and they have been spectacular!
Our beautiful leaf time has come and gone...it seems so sad. I adore autumn. Thanks for sharing your trees with us. Smiles, Susie
ReplyDeleteWe only have a few weeks left for our trees but this past weekend...they were at their peak of loveliness!
DeleteSmiles to you, sweet Susie, hope you have a great week!
You don't have to travel far to do your "leaf peeping", as they call it now.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos!
Thanks, Mimi! And no, we don't have to go far at all!
DeleteAre you happy that the Saints won yesterday? I am happy for you but sad for us that the Falcons lost! :-(
That tree in your front yard is so nice! I love that it popped up on its own. Those are usually the healthiest!
ReplyDeleteWe bought the cherry trees in our front yard years and years ago (the ones that you see that have no leaves) and the sweet gum is as tall as the cherry trees now!
DeleteThose cherry trees are like white fluffy clouds tinged with pink in the spring!
So many people plant exotic plants and ignore their native ones. We have a native plant hedge in our back garden with about twelve different native shrubs and trees in it. The wildlife loves it!
ReplyDeleteHey John!
DeleteTwelve different native shrubs and trees, ONE DOZEN ways the wildlife loves it! :-)
Hi Kay
ReplyDeleteAutumn is my favourite season and your photos remind me why.
Some years - this one being a case in point - our weather is much better in autumn than summer.
