Richard and I went to Arabia Mountain on Saturday. Before, we have walked on the mountain in the late afternoon and at dusk and have seen one single Monarch butterfly. On Saturday, we saw dozens and dozens of them, some would stop on the Yellow Daisies but most of them were flying directly over our heads flying very fast indeed on the long journey to Mexico.
Back to Arabia Mountain on Sunday, but this time with my son. It was a truly beautiful day, there was a cool breeze blowing over the mountain and it was comfortable and pleasant to be outside. We saw just a few monarchs on Sunday when Richard and I had seen so many just the day before!
Wow, you never know what creatures you will run into at Arabia Mountain! (I have always loved puppets, even shadow puppets!)
The Yellow Daisies are still so beautiful and they smell heavenly! The bees love them. I want the honey that comes from these beautiful flowers, don't you? I hope you enjoyed the walk again over Arabia Mountain with me. My son and I gave this wonderful walk over Arabia two thumbs up!
Oh, I LOVE the thumbs-up picture ~ so adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Audrey! My son still does silly things with his Mom! :-)
DeleteWow, that place is full of an ever-changing beauty. How clean and fresh the air must be out there.
ReplyDeleteIt IS beautiful! And you just don't know how right you are about the air! I breathe so well on the mountain, but when I go inside, not so good! (Asthma, I am afraid.) I wish I could live on Arabia Mountain!
DeleteDear Kay, I am sure you know exactly which one of these is my favourite :-)
ReplyDeleteHmmm...could it be the silly one with the dinosaur shadow puppet? HA, JUST KIDDING! Of course, it is the one with the close-up of the yellow flowers! :-)
DeleteYou would love these flowers..."Best I love September's yellow", the poet meant yellow leaves, but I think it suits the Yellow Daisies very well.
Almost, Kay, almost... :-) It's the 5th from above, where the blue flowers are in the foreground and the yellow ones in the background. You know - yellow and blue, an irresistible combination for me!
DeleteYes, of course, I remember you saying that it was the slender day flower with the daisies that you loved, the blue amongst the yellow. I agree with you completely, it is a lovely combination!
DeleteBeautiful photos, Kay! I love those shadow shots; so much fun. So that's where all the monarch butterflies are! You must be thrilled to have them visiting. I know I miss them; it's definitely not as colourful around here since they left.
ReplyDeleteDear Martha,
DeleteThank you! Richard took the butterfly photos, but all the rest were by me! (You can always tell mine, they tend to be silly.)
I loved YOUR photo of the Monarch butterfly on your post recently, just a really great shot.
What a wonderful, special time with your husband, and then with your son! And nice puppet on the water.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mimi! I am lucky that I got to go BOTH days.
DeleteAnd I am a longtime fan of shadow puppets, and puppets in general. Do you remember staying up for The Jimmy Dean Show to watch Rowlf The Dog? That was one of Jim Henson's first puppets!
Kay, I loved all your photos. So nice you got to share special moments with your loved ones. Smiles to all, Susie
ReplyDeleteDear Susie,
DeleteThank you so much! We try to get to Arabia Mountain as much as we possibly can. Big smiles to you too! And thanks for your comment! xx
Lovely photos! As an anglophile from California living in England I sure miss those Monarchs. Magic! (love the shadow pictures too!)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your comment! And I see that you are a follower now, which means you are a new blogging friend. Thank you!
DeleteWe have a black cat named "Minnie" and if that is your cat's photo, they look very similar!
Ah flutterbys! Nice place to be.
ReplyDeleteThe Monarchs were beautiful! And the American Painted lady is always nice to see too!
DeleteGlad you got to see so many Monarchs, even if just for a day.
ReplyDeleteLove the shadow shots!
Thanks, Terry!
DeleteAnd now we keep seeing them, although not as many as we did that one day, that Saturday, it was amazing to be "underneath a butterfly's wing".
Such a beautiful place to spend time. Loved the butterfly shots and it's nice to see bees and butterflies play nicely together!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun to notice the bee beside the butterfly. Little things like that please me. I am a simple soul!
Deletewow! how did you get that close!!! the butterfly pictures are super! xx
ReplyDeleteRichard took the butterfly photos and he used the zoom lens on them. He can do that since he has a steadier hand than I do. I shake a lot, must be all those years shaking my fists in rage! HAHA
DeleteThere's a great new IMAX documentary coming soon about the incredible migration story of Monarch Butterflies. And about the scientist who devoted his life's work to discovering where they go in the winder.
ReplyDeleteOh, I just read your post from Friday -- you already know about it! Guess I should read your posts in order, LOL.
DeleteThanks, Debra! And glad you mentioned it again, he case anyone else missed it.
DeleteAnd it makes me see that when I do posts that are really about the same subject, I should have said, "And by the way, I just did a post about this IMAX movie, etc, etc."
See, the old girl CAN learn! :-)
Oh my word - how beautiful. I spent most of this Summer chasing butterflies, but nothing as lovely as your's.
ReplyDeleteNina x
Hey Nina!
DeleteAh, a fellow butterfly chaser! Even if we don't get that perfect shot, we stil have them in our mind's eye!
Thanks for your comment! xx
Oh, I envy you seeing all those monarchs! I've seen only two this year, at different times, so for all I know, it may have been the same monarch! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you've probably answered this before, but what are the pretty blue flowers you've pictured? Arabia Mountain does look like such a magical place.
Dear Beth,
DeleteWe saw a few in our yard, but not nearly as many as saw at Arabia on Saturday!
And the blue wildflowers are called "Slender Dayflowers" and we have also only seen them on Arabia Mountain and Stone Mountain.
Arabia, like Stone Mountain, is very special!
