Crepuscular rays are alternating light and dark sun rays streaming
through gaps in clouds. They appear to fan out from the Sun's position, although
they are actually parallel (like the apparent converging of railroad tracks when
you look down a long straight track), and arise when clouds cast shadows on to
the atmosphere.
When the sun is low, towards twilight (from which the rays derive their name)
the light rays often appear reddish, whereas the dark shadows have a green
tinge.

Crepuscular...that is the correct word, but for me, it looks like a painting, and a very heavenly one too. When I mentioned the word, "crepuscular", Richard told me that it is a French word for dusk. Mais oui! C'est vrai! All I know for sure is that this is beautiful in any language.
We are having problems with our computer and I am typing this on another computer which I can barely see. So, forgive me because I am not able to read all your lovely blogs and leave comments. This has taken me much longer than normal just to type these few words. Hopefully, within FIVE days, we will get what we need so that I will be able to be on my blog again.
I never knew there was a name for those lovely rays I see. I love them! I also love the photo of the reflection in the puddle. Do you remember the photo I had of the beach umbrellas reflected in the tide pool? I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE reflection pictures. I hope you can get your computer fixed soon. I'd miss you so much if you were gone for a while!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes! The beach umbrella you have had since you were a little girl? I remember the photo of it reflected in the water!
DeleteThanks, I hope it is fixed soon. If I make typing mistakes on this little one, it is hard for my old eyes to see them!
These pictures truly ARE heavenly!
ReplyDeleteI remember you having mentioned computer problems a while ago; I was (just like yourselves) hoping they'd been solved. The wonders of modern technology...!
Thanks, Meike!
DeleteAnd yes, we had hoped that they were too. Back to the drawing board!
Dawn & Dusk, ideal for photos. Great shots there!
ReplyDeleteThanks, and once again, Richard took these photos. I just try to get out of the way!
DeleteLovely photos, and i hope your computer woes are over quickly.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mimi! Cat litter, computer woes, and car problems...three things I could do without!
DeleteThese are GORGEOUS!!!!
ReplyDeleteTHanks, Connie!
DeleteLovely pictures, Kay! I'm interested to know the derivation of the word "Crepuscular." I always thought it was an odd word for such a heavenly sight...sort of sounded like a medical condition. :-) Looking at your photos makes me think of God---thank you.
ReplyDeleteHope you soon get things straightened out with the computer---that's always so vexing, I know.
Crepuscular...I only learned that word a few years ago, it wss on the back page of the USA Today newspaper, you know where they show the weather?
DeleteBefore that, I always said that these rays reminded me of the Ascension of Jesus into heaven. They still do.

DeleteThat is something that if you can't link it, perhaps you could find it. Being up at Beachy Head in England, there are many times that I was reminded of the Ascension of Jesus into heaven. Those clouds are also heavenly.
How very interesting. I have seen this effect many times, yet have never stopped to consider that it has a name. I've just made a note of it, so that next time we see it I can sound very intelligent! And then I will admit that Kay told me.
ReplyDeleteDear Tracey,
DeleteThanks so much! I have read so many things in my life and so much is stored in my brain. Any thing up there that I truly need when I have to have it? No, my brain is full of clouds, flowers, birds and butterflies!
Wonderful photos Kay, really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sulky Kitten, thank you!
DeleteI learned something new today! I never knew those had a name..I always thought they were the answer to prayers being sent out from heaven. Love the pics..so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks! And read my reply (as always, a very long one!) to Blue Ridge Girl above!
DeleteAnd you know my husband, Richard took these photos, he is so good!
Beautiful! You should submit the crepuscular photos to Earth Science Photo of the day - http://epod.usra.edu/
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for telling me this. Richard is such a good photographer, I will tell him.
DeleteTHanks again, Terry, I had never heard of it before!
Beautiful photos, Kay. I hope your computer problems are resolved soon. The blogging world is always better with you around :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Martha! I miss it when I cannot blog!
DeleteAll the photos you have are beautiful especially the last one. It looks very romantic and this photo reminds me of the wedding articles I've been creating lately... Have a great weekend Ms Kay! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! And I hope you have a great weekend too!
DeleteWow, so pretty! I love to see the sky like that, its like God smiling :)
ReplyDeleteLike God smiling, exactly so. Thank you for your comment here!
DeleteI didn't even realize there was a term for those sun rays. I've seen them in Hawaii and it always makes us look at them with awe. I've tried to take photos of them, but NONE of mine come close to capturing the beauty that you have.
ReplyDeleteDear Kay,
DeleteThank you so much for your comment! You must get some great clouds in Hawaii! Love your rainbow photo as your most recent header, magnificent!
