"That Autumn eve was stilled,
A last remains of sunset dimly burned
O'er the far forests, - like a torch flame turned
By the wind back upon the bearer's hand
In one long flare of crimson, as a brand,
The woods beneath lay black."
R. Browning
Beautiful picture, beautiful words!
ReplyDeleteLibrarian,
ReplyDeleteRichard took this photo just this past Saturday from Arabia Mountain. This poem by Robert Browning is quoted for the month of October from the book, The Country Diary of An Edwardian Lady by Edith Holden. I love this book, the drawings, what she wrote for each month... it is my kind of book!
What a beautiful poem and photo! A gorgeous sunset to behold.
ReplyDeleteCheryl,
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love sunsets and sunrises! Look here for more photos, my husband is a good photographer.
I just found your blog through The Pioneer Woman. I am glad to have linked to this beautiful poem and amazing photo. Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI did tell you I bought that book, didn't I? It is on my list for next year! Lovely words.
ReplyDeleteLovely picture, and I love Browning.

Pomona,
ReplyDeleteThank you and I knew YOU would, everyone should!
A beautiful post, thank you. I was brought up on poetry but I don't think I came across that piece in my youth though I must have read it later, being a lover of Edith Holden's book.
ReplyDeleteThat is just beautiful! Both the words and the photo... Hugs, Silke
ReplyDeleteSilke,
ReplyDeleteThank you! You should climb Arabia when you are in the Atlanta area! The sunsets are beautiful.
