We loved the beauty of the mountains and how quiet it was...almost everyone else went over the mountains to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Now, there is a huge casino in Cherokee, so the quiet times are past.
We spent our honeymoon just west of Cherokee, in Fontana Dam,North Carolina, which was 30 years ago this June!!
The forced removal of the Cherokees is a shameful thing and should most certainly be called and known as the Trail of Tears. It I can get my thoughts together enough, I will do a post about it.
Sometimes, I wonder at the depth of my feeling for something I have writen the same way that I marvel at my husband's photography skills! If they come to take you away my friend, just be singing God's praises all the way!Kay G.https://www.blogger.com/profile/07228498846814735537noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716894977482967985.post-20844923779839904002013-05-05T18:50:57.561-04:002013-05-05T18:50:57.561-04:00"Cliche ridden", ha you are so funny!! Every so often, I would wander off the beaten path to go exploring in my big truck while I was still out there trucking away from coast to coast (and then some). One of those adventures involved heading north (and slightly east) out of Cummins, Georgia on US 19 when I had plenty of time to get to where I needed to be on Monday morning. I am not sure which side of the North Carolina border I was on, but I remember coming to a place where several mountain ridges sloped down to form a little pocket of a valley that was simply breath-taking to me. It appeared to be some sort of tourist location, and I found a place to park for a little while in order to do some writing. That was long before I had much of anything to do with a computer of any sort. So, what I wrote was in longhand, and I would sure love to find it. For all I can remember is that it amazed me, and that was several years before our Heavenly Father made me aware of just how much He has always been with me, just as He has with us all. Since I now realize that I am really nothing more than a transcriber of what He gives me to publish, I do not consider it the least bit braggadocious to say that I am often amazed at what I read on the screen before me as I type away. Of course, most would consider that as being sufficient grounds for commitment in a mental health facility. Anyway, if you have not already been there, I think you will be duly impressed with what can found on the North Carolina border of northeastern Georgia. Oh, and that is where the Cherokee side of my mom's family was living before they were "asked" to join the Trail of Tears migration.
