Queen Elizabeth died on Sept. 8, 2022. Dolly Parton died today on August 25, 2026. It truly saddened me to learn of the Queen's passing, much as Dolly's has today. Dolly Parton was Southern and proud of it. For me, Dolly was MY queen. How many songs did she write in her lifetime? That number is believed to be 5000. How many books has she given away to children in her Imagination Library? I have read different numbers, but it seems to be over 300 million books worldwide. Oh, and remember the Covid vaccine? If you got the Moderna one, Dolly gave a million dollars to Vanderbilt University for developing that one. Admirable? Yes, indeed.
I have several videos here for you. I hope they will stay on my post so you can see them. The first one is her singing with Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn. The second one is a song that she wrote that I remember we had on an album, "Me and Little Andy". She called it the most pitiful song! And yet, it shows her sweetness, I think and I can listen to it and be astounded at her songwriting ability and her singing and doing the little girl's voice too. If anyone wants to make fun of it, go somewhere else to say so! And the third one is from her film "9 to 5" with some great lines! How much I love that movie! So funny and the song that she wrote and sang in that film! Just perfect.
Dolly loved butterflies, they were really like her signature. 🦋

DeleteI was watching a BBC tribute to her tonight. One song I had never heard before was The Bridge. She wrote that in her teens, a really good song, but not a hit, but Bobby Gentry's Ode to Billie Joe was a massive hit in 1967. Similar themes but Dolly was first. I looked it up. I also liked her bluegrass LP's. RIP Dolly. Still got Miley though :o)
ReplyDeleteDolly wrote so many songs! Even though she started in country music and became very popular with pop music, I know she also loved blue grass and gospel. Such an interesting, kind person. And Miley? Well, Dolly liked her, but then, she liked everybody.

A couple of years ago I watched a program where Reese Witherspoon went ot Dolly Parton's house and had an interview with her in her kitchen. Two great ladies together, and you could clearly see how much Reese admired Dolly.
Yes, I saw that 3000 song count too but reading a bit further, it is believed that she had about twice that if you count all those that she never published. Astonishing indeed, if 3000 or 5000!

DeleteI didn't know she died yesterday, I'm a fan of hers and have been for a long time. She did a lot in her life time and didn't always have it easy at all I hope she can now rest in peace. ReplyDeleteShe really loved the butterflies! I had to really search to find my photo of a Monarch, which I thought would be just the thing for this post. Dolly Parton was a lot like my Daddy, brought up in a house with no running water and no electricity. I am sure she was called a "hillbilly" just like he was.
DeleteI actually remember the first time I saw Dolly perform. My family was on vacation and visiting my uncle in Tennessee. She was on the Porter Wagoner show. She is one of those people you feel will always be here. And now I just read that Tim Curry has died. These people are my age!
ReplyDeleteI well remember her from the Porter Wagoner Show. When she left his show, there was some friction between them. That is what inspired her song, "I Will Always Love You". It went on to make her lots of money when Whitney Houston had such a massive hit with it. I saw that Tim Curry has died. He and Dolly were both 80.
DeleteShe was such a wonderful person! I can remember watching her on TV when I was a kid when was on the Porter Waggoner show. She did so much for others and the fact that she provided so many kids with books - loved it! She will be missed.

She really was! During the Changing of the Guard, a band played "Nine to Five" outside Buckingham Palace today! Isn't that wonderful! You know I think the world of England! I really do. ♥ I bet Dolly Parton did too. She thought the world of everything and everyone. xx

DeleteMs. Parton was amazing. Jesus said anyone who gives a cup of cold water in His name would not lose their reward. I think that applies to spiritual refreshing cold water, too, in a sense and some of her songs did just that, they were like giving my soul a cup of cold water it needed.

DeleteOh, and of all the vaccines I got for Covid, Moderna was the one I got most (about 10 times), Pfizer just twice. Moderna is a great vaccine, I never had any side effects, thank God. Dolly was an amazing woman, a very loving and caring person. She will be missed for a very, very long time to come!

She was always giving back, was so down-to-earth, never forgot where she came from, loved by millions of people, and all those who came into contact with her. That's a beautiful Monarch.
