"I LOVE your hair!"
My friends, I can't tell you how it warms my heart to hear those words directed towards me! Especially as I have stopped dying my hair after doing so for many years, and I have snowy white roots with brown hair at the ends. Several women have said this to me lately and two of them have told me that I remind them of the character from X-Men. I am thinking they must be referring to "Rogue". Now, if there is a very old lady in these films with white hair, just keep it to yourself, okay? I am saying I look like "Rogue"!
It has been really nice not to color my hair! I never went to the salon, it was always Loreal Excellence, Medium Brown for me, and I have the brown stained towel to prove it! Do you color your hair? If not, when did you stop? And also, has anyone told you that you remind them of someone? Have you ever been told you have a double? It actually happens to me quite often, I must have that kind of face!
I suppose I should take a more recent photo of myself with my new silver roots but if you look carefully at this photo, you can see the white just at the top of my head. Obviously, I had waited a bit to touch up those roots. LOL!

Hey! Anybody remember me telling you the difference between a dragonfly and a damselfly? (Some might say they look the same, but a damselfly folds the wings together, while the dragonfly holds them out, horizontally.) This is a damselfly, posing on one of our blueberry bushes! It is an ebony jewelwing. You must love that name!

ReplyDeleteI am still coloring my hair, right now it just gets gray at the temples so it's not too hard to keep up on, but the time is coming. Good for you! PS - I like the pic.

DeleteI never colored my hair. Since it's light there wasn't an obvious difference when it started changing.

DeleteI've never dyed my hair and so I've aged naturally. I love it when my friends let their hair go grey though -- they always look terrific, in my opinion! When I was young and in university, several people told me they saw my doppelganger around. Eventually, I saw her myself! Riding on the bus one day, I looked out the window and there she was! And yes, she did look like me -- we could have been twins!

DeleteNobody has ever said to me that I look like someone else, but many people - especially, but not only - women compliment me on my hair since I have stopped colouring it. I started colouring at around 40 and back then was determined to stop at 50, but then I didn't... Only when the salons were all closed for three months here because of Covid restrictions did I stop, and I have never regretted it - on the contrary, I only regret that I ever started colouring in the first place! All that chemistry on my head, all that time (and money) spent at the salon... Home-colouring I have always found difficult because I can't see very well without my specs.

DeleteWhen you get to a certain age, men don't seem to notice you, I hate to tell you, but maybe that's just a thing here in the South. I must admit, I liked your brown hair but now, I like your pretty light hair!
Back in my forties I "toned" my hair for a while (at home) but didn't keep that up for long. My hair has kind of faded in colour gradually and it still kind of depends on the light if it looks white, grey or some weird kind of blond. - I have been told a few times through life, usually by new acquaintances, that I remind them of someone else they know. I've never met any of my "lookalikes", though!

ReplyDeleteI guess I should have said that I started going grey when I was a teenager. Started coloring my hair in my early 20's, so for a very long time now! Hey, I am a grandmother now, so it's time!
DeleteMy mom was a strawberry blonde. I've never dyed my hair. It has make strads of silver with my dark brown. I'm just letting it be.
ReplyDeleteStands of silver sound pretty. My silver is GLEAMING on the top of my head now, so when it is all that color, it will be very bright. Oh well, I will dazzle! LOL!

DeleteI didn't know the difference between the two either. Very interesting. What I did and do is have lowlights put in and my hair looks highlighted. Reverse highlights. Your hair is very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI had blonde highlights in my hair when I first met RIchard in 1981. I went to a salon in Sandy Springs, Mitchell Barnes was his name! He was quite well known for his hair salon, but I just went with a friend, I had never heard of him! Only had it done that one time! LOL!

Oh, glad you have never colored your hair! And it is does LOOK like a dragonfly but it is really a damsel fly! See, it is a DOPPELGANGER! Ha ha, see why I chose that for a photo to go with this post? :-)
DeleteAt the age of 50, I stopped coloring my hair. What a relief that was. It seemed every two weeks, my white roots were showing. Now it's completely white. Every time I look in the mirror, I can't believe the reflection.
ReplyDeleteI said that I would at 50. Then, I said I would at 60. I made it to 68!! I am sure my hair will be completely white when I have it all grown out. I don't plan to look in mirrors. LOL!
DeleteI have often been accused of coloring my hair, but never have. Those who have accused me of coloring often don't have as much hair as I do. I also must hav a doppelgänger somewhere, since I'm often mistaken for someone else...

DeleteI dyed my hair when I first began to gray. My hair felt like dry hay. I stopped because it was more trouble than it was worth. Oddly enough I am still not very gray. (Genetics.) I suppose I will never get that pretty silvery gray that my oldest son has.

DeleteDamsel flies are some of my favourite creatures. And I like the tiny electric blue and green ones every summer, so small most folk don't see them as adults. But young children spot them as they fly at that face height. If that's not a fairy, what is :o)

ReplyDeleteDamsel flies and dragonflies are all lovely, I enjoy seeing them and trying to snap photos. Once in a while, one will hold still just long enough.

DeleteI don't think we have damsonflies in Australia. It's very pretty. But we do have dragonflies which hover over swamps etc. I had naturally dark brown hair, coloured it for 45 years when the greys appeared. In 2019 I suddenly went allergic to the colour and stopped. My hairdresser carefully bleached some of the ends to make it less shocking, and I began growing out the grey. Then Covid hit and we all stopped going to hairdressers, or anywhere else, and in six months I had a head of snow white hair. Permanently. I still get compliments on the white hair, which never happened when it was dark. I was told a few times I looked like the late Queen, but I'm not sure I liked that idea. Anyhoo, good for you, and your photo is absolutely beautiful Kay.

If they are having a bad hair day, I say nothing, I promise! We need to support each other, I think. After. I became a grandmother, I thought that was a good time to go natural!
DeleteNatural is always better than coloured in my opinion. We should take comfort in life's various stages not try to mask them. Keep on being natural. The Ebony Jewelwing would agree!

ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty picture of you. I stopped coloring my hair about 15 years ago. I have long brown hair with some white stands showing now. I don't plan on coloring again.

DeleteWhen my hair was turning white I went to a hairdresser to get it coloure but the hairdresser said , "people pay big money to colour their hair like yours." So that convinced me to save my money and go white.
ReplyDeleteI began coloring my hair in my early 20's to cover the grey so my experience is different than most women. It really is a strange thing to NOT color my hair every month but I think I am getting used to it! LOL! That hairdresser was great to tell you that, here they woukd just color it and take your money. xx
DeleteI used to use the shampoo in coloring, then started having it professionally done. I got tired of how long I spent at the hair dressers, and the cost. Plus, as I was looking at my roots decided it looked like a nice white silver, not a drab gray and decided I'd go natural. Am 75 and think from memory I've been natural for 15 ish years. I'm not really certain. My 2 sister-in-laws, plus all my close friends are still dying their hair...so guess I'm odd man out. But, I get compliments all the time about how nice the natural color is. I'm getting fewer these days because it's become quite thin. Hope I don't go bald. Long ago when I worked at the hospital I had a couple of older docs that told me I reminded them of Marlena Dietrich. I forget what she looks like. Looked her up long ago, guess I need to do that again. Also had an aunt and uncle who said I looked like one of King sisters.

Oh wow, Marlene Dietrich! That's awesome, she was not only attractive but a war hero also! A great lady indeed. I don't know the King sisters! No way would I go to the salon for my hair color, I am way too cheap. LOL. Even the home coloring was getting too pricey for me, so glad I stopped.
DeleteKay, you look beautiful with that fancy stripe in your hair. Très chic! Truly! The only time I dyed my hair was in my early 20s when I wanted to be a redhead. Encouraged by my friends who had done theirs I bought my bottle, except that I forgot to put the timer on! Oh dear, I never did try that again. I was actually one of those strange people who looked forward to my gray hair and have always admired ladies whose locks were gray. Mine is coming in and I am delighted. Enjoy your gray days Kay, cheer them on!

DeleteI've colored my hair for a long time. I used the same color of excellence as you! Now I go and have it done when I get it cut. I wish I had longer hair, but I can't stand the growing out phase. My hairdresser said I don't have grey hair. Shocked, I said "really?" She said, "no, it's pure white!" Ha! I know I'll look like my mom. She had awesome white hair but I'm not ready for that yet and I'm 73! She quit dyeing her hair at 62. You look wonderful! I know I will also enjoy not getting mine dyed...it will save me enough money to take a nice vacation probably! My sister has my dad's hair that didn't get grey. She just has a few grey hairs at the temple, but she gets it highlighted because the natural dark hair is too much for her complexion. We have lots of dragonflies, but I didn't know about damsels! ReplyDeleteI’ve never dyed my hair. Let’s face it. I’m too lazy. But most of my friends do. I tell them I don’t have to ever prove I’m a senior to get a discount. Cars usually stop for me when I want to cross the street. LOL!
With your slim figure, folks will think you are teenager who likes to have dyed grey hair! Drivers stop for you to admire your beauty.
