Well, the Winter Olympics are over, and I can't help but feel a bit sad. I didn't get to watch as much as I would have liked. If you only had the basic NBC coverage, you had to make do with the crumbs that were tossed to you. Apparently, the best coverage for US viewers was on Peacock, which we don't have. Never mind, I would pick up my phone and type in "Medal count" and it would display the countries and show the medals won by each country! In my last post, I said it looked as if Great Britain would win a gold medal, and they did! In fact, they ended up winning five medals- three gold, one silver and one bronze. Did you see that Tom Daley, a fellow British Olympian knitted Matt Weston a little pouch for his gold medals? (Tom Daley is an Olympic gold medalist in Diving AND a fantastic knitter/crocheter!) It tickled me that in the video that I saw, Matt Weston had his gold medals in a sock inside his pocket! Ha! That sounds just like a typical Brit to me!
Since I am from Georgia, I am very pleased to show you a video of Elena Meyers Taylor. I hope you can see it! (She and her family live in Douglasville, Georgia!) She won a gold medal at the age of 41! She is the mother of two little boys, and I hope you have seen some coverage of her with her husband and sons. I find her story not only admirable but very inspiring.
Alysa Liu won a gold medal in figure skating for the USA in a fantastic performance! You can easily see that on YouTube, but you might not have seen her throw out the first pitch at a baseball game in 2025! I have that for you above! Hey, she put her own special "spin" on it. I love it! Her life story is also pretty interesting. Her father is Chinese and came to this country after organizing and participating in the student protests in Tiananmen Square in 1989. You may read more about her just here.
No gold medals here but I am happy to say that we do have pine warblers that visit us. This bird is gold enough for me!
Hope you are all doing well. There is a blizzard in the northeast just now in this country. I am grateful to be in the South. It is cold today (after last week having two days with the temps at 80 degrees!) but with bright sunshine, we consider ourselves lucky.
See if you can click on the link below! It is a cover of a Coldplay song. From our son! I love it, I can't stop singing it.
Golden!
The Hardest Part by Chris Guest
It was a good Olympics like you I caught bits and pieces.
ReplyDeleteI am far enough north we just got a dusting. Very fine by me Friday we got 6 inches.
Cathy
Ready for Spring myself! Take care. x
DeleteWe had extensive coverage daily so I had to cherry pick the best bits. I was envious of the ability of the cross country skiers. I used to do that on club trips up north in winter but I was nowhere near that level of skill. The UK and Scotland did well for a country with very little real snow falling in winter to practice on these days.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the cross country skier from USA, Ben Ogden. I just love that he likes to knit to relax. I can't imagine doing that cross country skiing. Hard enough for me to stand up on them!
DeleteI know a lot of people were talking about the cold storms they're having. It's going to be in the 80's for me all this week.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary! That sounds really nice to me! Take care, I see you are a new follower. Thank you! x
DeleteThere were some great moments in this year's winter olympics, as there always are! Did I hear correctly that the 2030 games are in France?
ReplyDeleteMais oui! I am already looking forward to seeing the wintry pictures from France in 2030!
DeleteIt's a joy to watch these wonderful athletes, and this time was no exception, the parts I saw. Enjoy your warblers!
ReplyDeleteI know, I really loved their youthful faces! And we love our birds!
DeleteWithout any special TV stuff, I was able to see on NBC's secondary channel in K.C., and stayed up til 3 a.m. to watch. Messed up my days. Amazing athletes from lots of places. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteYou sound like my sister! She did the same thing! She said they showed a LOT of the athletes, not just those from the USA.
DeleteI hope ICE do not realise Liu came from China, they might send her back. Lovely Gold bird pictured there, we don't have anything like that here at the moment. I have friends in Minnesota with 18 inches of snow!
ReplyDeleteThe pine warbler is even prettier than it is in a photograph! Richard can't even get that color! 18 inches of snow is scary to me, hope I never see it.
DeleteYes I did watch some of it, I was amazed by the skeleton run and the speed the hit. The skating, well even the best had problems falling all over the place. Funny enough I enjoyed the Curling 🥌. I love Watching Cold play especially when they do Glastonbury
ReplyDeleteThe skeleton run! DId you know it was invented by Englishmen? I told RIchard that I bet a lot of alcohol was involved in its development. LOL!! Curling, it looks so funny to me but I know a lot of people loved it too!
DeleteI have not seen all the O.G. due to the Khristin storm.
ReplyDeleteTake care !
Anna
Oh my, it has been a harsh winter. Take care!
DeleteI didn't see much but did see that the U.S. did very well. I don;t remember how many medals they got but they say the women won more than the men did. We are blessed with some very good Athletes.
ReplyDeleteThe USA won 33 total medals, the most they have ever won in a Winter Olympics! Every day I would type in "Medal Count" on my phone, and a list of countries would pop up and tell me! I will miss that.
DeleteBeautiful photo of the bird 🐦
ReplyDeleteThank you! I will tell my husband. He took it from the sofa, and it is through a plate glass window!
DeleteWe did well in the Olympics. We usually do if I can brag about my country for a moment. Your son's song would not play for me. I do love the song.
ReplyDeleteIt was so much fun to see them win, wasn't it? I would rejoice with the other winners from other countries if they had shown it more on my TV! I am sorry you can't hear my son sing that song. I forget, it is on Sound Cloud. Perhaps you can look at it on your phone?
DeleteAlso, for some reason, I can't look at your blog anymore! So, I can't leave comments there either! So sorry, tell me what I am doing wrong!
I didn't watch any of the Winter Olympics other than what was on the main news ...
ReplyDeleteLovely picture of the pine warbler.
All the best Jan
Hey Jan! We love our birds. Take care!
DeleteWe enjoyed watching the Olympics mostly on You Tube. Us Australians were thrilled with our winter olympians winning 6 medals including 3 gold. Not bad for a country that only has snow for a few months each year.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, happy for the athletes from Australia too! Thredbo, that is a ski area, in Australia, I think.Never been there but I just have heard of places.
DeleteI've loved the figure skating and the half pipe. My jaw drops at the turns and flips. Every medal was well earned whatever the nationality.
ReplyDeleteI agree! I love them all! Every time someone had a fall or a spill, it was as if it had happened to me, I felt so sorry for them. I rejoiced when they won!
DeleteI love to learn about birds new to me like the pine warbler. I didn't get to see much of the Winter Olympics either. Thank you for sharing the inspiring stories. I will stop by regularly from now on.
ReplyDeleteHello! How lovely to meet another "Kay", even though you spell it with an "e" at the end. I had a wonderful aunt who always spelled it that way when she wrote to me, she told me that is how it should have been spelled! LOL! I see you are a new follower of mine, you have made my day! Are you really in South Africa? How lovely, with all the flowers! (Not that I have ever been there, but am I right about the flowers?) I love birds and all nature, really! I am sure you are the same. Very pleased to see your comment here!
