Please, click on the link above and watch this video! It is an interview with an 11 year old boy in Cumming, Georgia who saved his mother's life when the Jeep that they were in veered off the road, went off a steep embankment and landed in a small creek UPSIDE DOWN. If you have ever been in an accident, you may know that you will feel dazed and confused after it happens. Imagine, being in the vehicle and you are just a kid and you know it is up to you get help for your mother who has serious injuries and the water is coming in... Watch the video!! What really gets me is at the end, where he is asked what does it feel like to be called a hero and he says, "It's better than being picked on". That just breaks my heart! How can anyone think of bullying him! I have written about bullying and kindness before which you may read here. I saw another video of this young boy (his name is Charlie Polk) and he is is just as quiet and unassuming as he is in this video.
I don't have a photo of Charlie Polk to show you but I will show you a photo of MY Georgia boy who also has an English heart, by the way! Love you son, boys are the best!
Good for him! I hope he never gets picked on again. Walk tall, Charlie!
ReplyDeleteI hope he will get some recognition for this good deed other than just being interviewed on TV.
DeleteAnd I hope it stops any bullying directed his way (and I wish it would stop for anyone!)
What a sweet little boy.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of you and your son.
Isn't he just the nicest. sweetest little boy? I want to give him a big hug!
DeleteAnd thanks, can you tell we were both windswept on top of Arabia Mountain? :-)
Thanks, Kay, for another beautifully inspiring link. What a special young man.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Thanks also for putting my button in your sidebar! How very nice of you. :)
Glad you liked this video too!
DeleteOh and I just saw that I had the button but no words with it which I have now added. Hope the wording is okay with you! :-)
He sounds like such a sweet sensitive child. To hear he was being picked on just breaks your heart.
ReplyDeleteOh, I KNOW! That is just what I thought when I heard him on this video!
DeleteAnd what a handsome, sweet son you have, Kay.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I agree with you!!
DeleteWhat a little star! Sweet (and brave) little kid.
ReplyDeleteI just thought this video of him was just so special and I wanted to share this on my blog.
DeleteMany times you only hear bad things not good news like this.
Boys always have a special place in mom's heart, don't they? This young man is amazing, as is yours!
ReplyDeleteI can only speak for myself but my son is very special to me!
DeleteAnd I am glad you like this story too. xx
You have an only boy - the best and I have an only girl - the best. Boy or Girl when you are the Mum yours is always "the best". That is the way it should be. Mine is home in June - it has been a long six months to do without the gossip, the humour and the downright "niceness" of my "best" girl.
ReplyDeleteThat was a very touching blog Kay. His Mum must be so grateful and proud to have him as her son.
I am emailing you with some Japanese pictures of the Cherry Trees - Kate is in Japan at the moment - and thought you might like to see some of the trees in situ.
You are so right, our children are the BEST!! When you are the Mum, yours is always the "best". I hope all mothers think that of their children!!
DeleteThanks so much for your comment, I am glad you liked this story too!
Oh, and I would be very grateful to see the cherry trees from Japan, will be fun to see how they compare with the ones in my front yard!! :-)
Hope you will have a wonderful "natter" with your daughter in June! xx
What an amazing kid Charlie is! I am saddened to think that such a wonderful little human being is picked on, and I do pray that any bullying he's endured will stop. I know from experience that it is often the kind and sensitive children that the bullies hone in on, and I know from experience the damage it can inflict.
ReplyDeleteWonderful picture of you and your son, Kay.
Thanks for your comment, Beth! Of course, I thought of you when I did this post, since you kindly allowed me to quote you in the post that I did on bullying.
DeleteMy son and I on top of Arabia Mountain last summer, we look hot!!
He looks so unspoilt, just a normal kid, not searching the limelight at all. This family will surely never forget that day! No matter how it happened - driving too fast, or something wrong with the car, or whatever - I imagine it will be difficult for the woman to drive along that same road again.
ReplyDeleteWithout knowing your son personally, I can just see him having done the same had he been in a similar situation at that age.
I know, you can just tell that he is a nice kid, can't you, just by the way that he speaks quietly and with a shyness towards the camera. That's one of the reasons I felt so much for him, when he said it was better than being picked on!
DeleteAnd you know, I believe that my son would know what to do in an emergency situation and do it, he is smart and caring and takes after his Dad!
What a trauma to have to live though, such a brave boy (also with being picked on, very sad). Nice photograph of you with yours!
ReplyDeleteIvan
Thanks, Ivan!
DeleteAnd I am glad to share this story with you and like you, I hope this will stop any bullying!
Hi GG! Thanks for sharing this video! I struggled with bullying every year I taught, and it was very hard to hear this beautiful and brave child mention being picked on! Loved the photo of you and Chris ~ it shines with love! Have a good day! I'm catching up ~ again ~ I hope you posted about your last Monadnock adventure! I can't wait to hear about it!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you! I was happy to share this with you and I know as a teacher you experienced bullying at school. I hate bullying!!
DeleteOur photo shines with love, thank you, what a nice thing to say! I haven't posted about my Monadnock adventure yet, I just got my prize in the mail TODAY! I will post about it soon! :-)
it's all so complicated sometimes. a hero, a victim, then, now, the most important thread is love. to receive it, to give it. this young boy hopefully gets what he needs.

Love, the MOST important thread, such a beautiful thought and one with which I agree with all my heart.
DeleteI hope he gets what he needs, this sweet young boy with such a gentle, caring nature.
Oh my, I am officially crushed. What a sweet, sensitive, smart boy. I can't bear to think of him being picked on. That is such an amazing story. There's a documentary out called BULLY. I saw the filmmaker speak back in January. It is an important movie, I think, and I hope you can see it one day. I cried just watching the trailer. I have a VERY sensitive spot in my heart for bullied children.
ReplyDeleteI know, I felt the same way when I watched this video. Odd to me how no one else noticed when he said being called a hero was better than being picked on.
DeleteI saw some info about that documentary (you might have told me!) and I would have liked to have heard the man who made the film speak about it and would like to see the film.
I also have a BIG problem with bullies. Did you see on the news about the young woman who was a rape victim and just took her own life? She had been BULLIED because of it. So shameful that this is not discussed. I have very strong feelings about this issue too.
Such a sweet boy! How can anyone pick on him. Many times, it's the quiet ones that are targeted. How sad. Be proud, young man!
ReplyDeleteI know, Martha, I knew you would look at this video and think the same way, feel so much for this sweet boy.
