And that reminds me of something I want you to watch on TV!</span></div><br /><p><span style="font-size: large;">"The Food That Built America" is a series on the History Channel.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">If you can, look at it and see if you can see the episode of "Soup of the Century". It is fascinating! Now you ask yourself, what would I possibly want to learn about <i>soup </i>and how can it be that fascinating?</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Since I am Georgia Girl With An English Heart, I am someone who has a foot in two countries, so to speak, and therefore, I am curious about how American and English foods are different, for example: SOUP! <i> </i>In America, it is Campbell's Soups that reign supreme. In the UK, it is Heinz! Now, why might that be? Watch this show and you will find out. Which do I prefer? Now, you all must know I try to be as impartial as I possibly can be. I grew up eating Campbell's soups and I find them perfectly acceptable. However, once I had tasted Heinz Tomato Soup...it made me wonder why this wonderful soup was not available in the USA! </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Now even though I have never been to Scotland, I was able to buy Baxter's soup in Eastbourne. There should be a TV series made about the history of this soup now! I had a bit of a sore throat and bought a can of their soup, was it "Scotch Broth"? I think that was it and it was delicious! (I want to visit Scotland, not just for the soup but hey, it is really good!) </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">If any of you are wondering if I have been under the weather and wanting soup and warm blankets, you would be correct! Hoping to be on the mend now, thanks very much. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Also, did anyone else hear that it is now considered proper to end a sentence with a preposition? Whoever came up with this, I am thankful that they know where they are coming from! </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/U_bJASc1vUA" width="320" youtube-src-id="U_bJASc1vUA"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"> This last video is by Evan & James singing "Bad Moon Rising"!</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/KK5YKld_SCw" width="320" youtube-src-id="KK5YKld_SCw"></iframe></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /><br /></div><br /><br />Kay G.http://www.blogger.com/profile/07228498846814735537noreply@blogger.com26tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716894977482967985.post-4361235450431495322024-02-20T18:04:00.004-05:002024-02-20T18:07:42.008-05:00The Beatles and A Bluebird!<p> </p><p><span style="font-size: x-large;">Wonderful news today! Sam Mendes, the British director will make </span><i style="font-size: x-large;">four</i><span style="font-size: x-large;"> separate films about the Beatles, one for each band member. Each movie representing the point of view of John, Paul, George and Ringo. Isn't that something? Expected to be released in 2027, the films have the full support of the two surviving Beatles and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison. I do hope that we will hear many Beatles songs during the films! And at a theatre! </span></p><p>-----------------------------</p><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"> (I was working on this post about Beatles covers when my son texted me the news about the Beatles films to come out in 2027!)</span></p><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Oh yes, my friends, I have spent so much time listening to people from all over the world singing and playing Beatles songs.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">It amazes me that so many of them making these videos are very young and have no memory of the Beatles as those of us who are of a certain age! They are singing in English and you can tell that English is not their first language. It made me think of doing a post called "I Speak BEATLES"! I just looked at my blog and I did a post in February of 2014 where I mentioned the 50th anniversary of the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show. Of course, it is now the 60th anniversary this month! Want to see my post from 10 years ago? (COURAGE)<p> <span style="font-size: large;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">You know that song lyric, don't you? It is from "The Wizard of Oz" and is sung (or spoken) by the Cowardly Lion. Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Lion were searching for a home, a brain, a heart and the "noive" which is as close as I can type to that marvelous actor's accent! (The nerve or courage.) Now, if you think about it...we all have a home (hopefully), a heart, and a brain but it is the courage that we sometimes might have to find in life. That brings me to the wonderful word- ENCOURAGEMENT, which means "the action of someone giving support, confidence or hope. It seems quite simple, doesn't it? And yet, it can make all the difference in world!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">From writing this blog over the years, I can promise you that had I not received such kindly encouragement, I would have stopped after my first post! My blogging friend in Germany talked me into starting my blog with wonderful encouragement. (Thanks, <a href="https://librarianwithsecrets.blogspot.com/">Librarian</a>!) And it was John in England who gave me the great encouragement to continue it. Now, John has passed away and I am very much saddened by this. You wouldn't believe how much he taught me about nature- trees, flowers, butterflies, beetles and mushrooms! I was also lucky enough to be included in the circle of lucky people who received his lovely post-cards, with the perfect stamp to go along with the photo on the card, along with his carefully chosen words. Today, I have several of his cards lined up on my mantel- one is of the famous gate at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool. Have you ever seen a photo of it? It shows these words "You'll Never Walk Alone", it is from the song that the fans sing.</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjuaUkWuvSibeW0onOcsxg0Lts8m71hZGRhKHug0P5tfTsBEMqtXxRS2RcjsuJYbHMtLCQNUtZKFKLsF5OBQOvUyHdxOb-oeu-pmaP7abfQTWmGKxEnggMJqkg_i1Aaa6YdZfP1L5gGGCDjjW32BM_X75Np1isrM69YgItD3u0rgajkD8o9k18GdVz-Ex0" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="900" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjuaUkWuvSibeW0onOcsxg0Lts8m71hZGRhKHug0P5tfTsBEMqtXxRS2RcjsuJYbHMtLCQNUtZKFKLsF5OBQOvUyHdxOb-oeu-pmaP7abfQTWmGKxEnggMJqkg_i1Aaa6YdZfP1L5gGGCDjjW32BM_X75Np1isrM69YgItD3u0rgajkD8o9k18GdVz-Ex0" width="320" /></a></span></div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">There, I hope you can see that image above! And of course, that brings me to the song that you must hear also! (I have written about this before. Many think this is from the Bible, but the words are really by Oscar Hammerstein, one of my favorite lyricists!)</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OV5_LQArLa0" width="320" youtube-src-id="OV5_LQArLa0"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">John's brother, Graham has written a post about his brother. You can read it just <a href="https://galenote.blogspot.com/2024/01/clive-john-edwards.html">here.</a> Graham, I wish I could do a better job at honoring your brother! He has been not just a friend to me but also to my husband and son. We will miss him and his encouraging words.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Just one more song- it is by "America". The song has just this one line that always has stuck in my head- "Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man that he didn't already have". Even though that is a double negative, in songwriting terms, it makes perfect sense. (You all know my love and great respect for songwriters!) The rest of the song, I'm not very sure of its meaning, but then, that is music for you, don't be so concerned about understanding every little thing, just enjoy it and if something encourages you or makes you smile or feel better about life, take it into your heart. Happy 2024! Hope Santa was good to you all! </span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Do I have anything musical to tell you? You know I do! Guess what I learned this Christmas? The man who wrote "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" was an Englishman! Yes, his name was Tommie Connor! I wish I had known that when I changed the lyrics to that song and sung it to my English in-laws! We had seen Hailey's Comet at Beachy Head and that is what MY song was about. Don't you change lyrics to tunes that you know for other people's entertainment/annoyance? You know I do!! LOL!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">The other musical news that I have you is that I found a couple of young men who do fantastic covers of Beatles songs! I hope you were able to hear this video. It is "I Should Have Known Better". Remember John Lennon's playing his marvelous harmonica on this record? This young man plays that bit on his guitar! Hope you like them too!</span><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2Qi4kS4rSvk" width="320" youtube-src-id="2Qi4kS4rSvk"></iframe></div><br /><p><span style="font-size: large;">So lovely!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgecLkiAgsDNe_GPH0rhq96ozhQKwtGqubjbqXU2iW52QfSc9FZbYRwQWHYymYXsORlYZvm4_lj9qMLtQTDD_LBuNEp1BT7TOHH5lVsk2DFYKju_ywyyMWtuYZVIIrz2R2FuR9jq0I5XH5ERCaae0O9UsyULZHfQ5PDfaRn5FbR1KOQUGwUmmDV-27-8IU/s4000/IMG_6823.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3000" data-original-width="4000" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgecLkiAgsDNe_GPH0rhq96ozhQKwtGqubjbqXU2iW52QfSc9FZbYRwQWHYymYXsORlYZvm4_lj9qMLtQTDD_LBuNEp1BT7TOHH5lVsk2DFYKju_ywyyMWtuYZVIIrz2R2FuR9jq0I5XH5ERCaae0O9UsyULZHfQ5PDfaRn5FbR1KOQUGwUmmDV-27-8IU/w400-h300/IMG_6823.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><span style="font-size: large;">Oh, deer!</span><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: large;">We are often surprised by white tailed deer when we walk at the Monastery. Lots of songs! One of them was sung by a petite young woman but like Brenda Lee, she really belted it out! (She sang and then, went around the little theater imploring the gentlemen to "please come home". After all, they are actors!) This song is being played a lot and by many singers but listen...the one we heard right here in Conyers, GA was wonderful! Can you guess which song it is? If I say I "love" it, can you guess? "Baby, Please Come Home for Christmas"! (Big hit for the wonderful Darlene Love!) </span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dgsGRm8bhFc" width="320" youtube-src-id="dgsGRm8bhFc"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Another song that I keep singing/humming (and I really might be driving even myself nuts with it) is a song by someone from....England! Oh yes, it has been covered by many artists now but the original was a great vocal and I am happy to say that he is also the songwriter! Sadly, George Michael is no longer with us but this song will remain, "Last Christmas". In the show that we saw, the young women singers combined their voices to sing this song and it was most effective. </span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7uIxMkfKHEo" width="320" youtube-src-id="7uIxMkfKHEo"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrN5zOaOuVqKmd0WGXd6yYEZPz7TtXTSLhfdAxIrXh4DfSftN-zlU0Mq1ZGiMVIaIwq2l4HG7rV1dQYYuKmWmB3HCxEUDSAEl9TKFN4knagzH3Uy-mwGmLCQziP7vrM5oXU_Tl8IWTDK4WsJv0v6MRRiP_NQUABEr43mHc-nhvpWbxoq5m7GOJvHdlzKE/s4000/IMG_6838.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3000" data-original-width="4000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrN5zOaOuVqKmd0WGXd6yYEZPz7TtXTSLhfdAxIrXh4DfSftN-zlU0Mq1ZGiMVIaIwq2l4HG7rV1dQYYuKmWmB3HCxEUDSAEl9TKFN4knagzH3Uy-mwGmLCQziP7vrM5oXU_Tl8IWTDK4WsJv0v6MRRiP_NQUABEr43mHc-nhvpWbxoq5m7GOJvHdlzKE/w640-h480/IMG_6838.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">As much as I love Christmas songs, I also love the anticipation of Christmas, the quiet season of Advent. The two CD's that I listen to leading up to Christmas are the ones that I have shown you above! The music from "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and "The Nutcracker Suite" by the London Philharmonic Orchestra are my favorites! (It is interesting to read about Charles Schulz and how he had to not only work on letting the network agree to this music from a jazz artist but also to allow him to quote from the King James Bible.)</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPXerHeTJVtEixRnM1a2op7_sDN9yN6oV20pJ_cWs-jr8eYGohV1EyZHihE9OnclAFcwWDzwA8QiKbrr3oST7JZpDObntqiOrfXR-b9AIS8DuMX_v8-pDxp2RRYEUrImfcLltzlEwm_l9Ihqijf467V1QjSHhOPl6_h4XzzfF7JwdUbiBcI9BFjM-jIJE/s4000/IMG_6831.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="3000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPXerHeTJVtEixRnM1a2op7_sDN9yN6oV20pJ_cWs-jr8eYGohV1EyZHihE9OnclAFcwWDzwA8QiKbrr3oST7JZpDObntqiOrfXR-b9AIS8DuMX_v8-pDxp2RRYEUrImfcLltzlEwm_l9Ihqijf467V1QjSHhOPl6_h4XzzfF7JwdUbiBcI9BFjM-jIJE/w480-h640/IMG_6831.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8DKh0bQsE60" width="320" youtube-src-id="8DKh0bQsE60"></iframe></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/pdTyf3gNHlM" width="320" youtube-src-id="pdTyf3gNHlM"></iframe></div><br /></span></div><span style="font-size: large;">Let's see, I have given you four videos here! In that last photo, I am on a bench with Santa in front of the old train depot which is now used as a welcome center. (Can you see the train tracks behind the fence? No passenger trains now, but freight trains rumble through on a regular basis!) At one time, the depot was in danger of being torn down, but a group of citizens banded together, and it was saved. (It has been used in quite a few films. I was pleased to recognize it in a movie with Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman. It was "Identity Thief". Watch it when you can! It is very funny!) Also, the theater group here used to have plays in the depot. When a train came through, the actors would freeze in place until the train has passed! That always got a round of applause! Now, the actors have their own little theater in town, and I am pleased to tell you that our friends gave us tickets to see a performance- A Christmas Cabaret! (By the New Depot Players.)</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">I have been <strike>driving everyone crazy </strike>humming the songs ever since the show. Happy Christmas to all!</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/itdNoGtPQ3I" width="320" youtube-src-id="itdNoGtPQ3I"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p></p>Kay G.http://www.blogger.com/profile/07228498846814735537noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716894977482967985.post-25404327643587075162023-12-05T09:52:00.002-05:002023-12-06T11:07:58.535-05:00Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree (Break It To Me Gently)<p> <span style="font-size: large;">December 5, 2023- Brenda Lee is at the top of the Billboard Top 100 with "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree"! It is 65 years since it was first released. Just last month, Brenda did her first music video ever, lip syncing the song with her friends Tanya Tucker and another Georgia Girl, Trish Yearwood. (Yes, Trish Yearwood is from just down the road from me, Monticello, Georgia!) I saw the clip on TV where Brenda Lee was given the news that her song was at number one! Of course, that reminds me of a song....</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Recently, when our son visited us at Thanksgiving, I asked him if he knew a certain song. The answer was in the negative, so I was happy to share it with him. After hearing it, he looked at me and said, "That was perfect". Now, instead of good news, think of being given bad news. You would want it broken gently, wouldn't you?</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/4rm7ODV1S_0" width="320" youtube-src-id="4rm7ODV1S_0"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;">The lyrics to "Break It To Me Gently" were written by a woman, Diane Lambert. (Of course, they were!) I think that Brenda Lee is not only a great singer but a great actress as well to portray the kind of heartache in this song. She married at the age of 18 and is still married to the same man.</span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"> "Little Miss Dynamite" indeed!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Just in case you haven't seen the music video that she did of "Rockin", here it is! (It was the first one she had ever done.) Brenda Lee has also spoken recently about the SONGWRITER of "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree", Johnny Marks! Brenda is a woman after my heart reminding us of songwriters!) Johnny Marks deserves a post of his own, stay tuned!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TFsZy9t-qDc" width="320" youtube-src-id="TFsZy9t-qDc"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Happy December, everyone!</span></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><br /></p>Kay G.http://www.blogger.com/profile/07228498846814735537noreply@blogger.com20tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716894977482967985.post-30041950375131569962023-11-30T17:58:00.018-05:002023-12-01T14:01:01.958-05:00Georgia Girl With a Heart for The World<p> </p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvQzTobYu9T825O5P83T57VHcLQ9Jpi14BNnDqznDeihDEo0fgPWMj-QW6wniHd9GPpUTFEgsSYUwdHwuVmwnnjqYD87vi17V57XxVXnQJn-Bcm_Wxnd-mhCXCQ97F5AOXEpsFuhDQHVzy5gvPEQAf9FTXHZLvR-F12BJKl7LpqyHRirYwgUQw70LsoH0/s4000/IMG_6762.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="3000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvQzTobYu9T825O5P83T57VHcLQ9Jpi14BNnDqznDeihDEo0fgPWMj-QW6wniHd9GPpUTFEgsSYUwdHwuVmwnnjqYD87vi17V57XxVXnQJn-Bcm_Wxnd-mhCXCQ97F5AOXEpsFuhDQHVzy5gvPEQAf9FTXHZLvR-F12BJKl7LpqyHRirYwgUQw70LsoH0/w480-h640/IMG_6762.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br /><p><span style="font-size: large;">The memorial service for Rosalynn Carter, former First Lady was shown on live TV here in Georgia, her home state. Did you see it too? I found it to be very moving. I loved the hymns (''Blessed Assurance", "Great Is Thy Faithfulness", "What Wondrous Love" and one that we had when Richard and I married -"Morning Has Broken".) I loved it when the grandson welcomed all the First Ladies who attended the service and especially the two of them with "their lovely husbands"! (This was referring to Bill Clinton and President Biden who were also there.) I noticed that Bill Clinton didn't hear that remark at first and had to ask Hillary to repeat it but then he chuckled wholeheartedly! </span></p><p><span style="font-size: x-large;"> When I was thinking of a title for this post, I couldn't help but think that Rosalynn was a woman from a small town in South Georgia but that she truly did have a heart for the whole world. I am also thinking of another "Georgia Girl" with a heart for the world who also died this month of November- Jimi Bowen Forward. You may read her obituary just <a href="https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/rockdalecitizen/name/jimi-forward-obituary?id=53630448">here.</a> </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">I worked for Jimi for almost twenty years at Bowen's Travel, the travel agency owned by Jimi. (At a time when not too many companies were women-owned). I have so many memories! Back in the 1980's, you could just jump on a plane and Jimi certainly did that. She liked to take groups to New York City from Atlanta, just for one day! We would leave on the first flight of the day and then come back on the very last flight returning. She would do this on the first week of December and we would be able to see the Christmas lights and do a bit of shopping. Very exciting for Conyers folks! She met up with me when I was in London and we had tea at the Ritz. (She insisted on paying, you know she did, that was Jimi.) When our son was almost 4 years old, she made sure that we were able to go on a Disney cruise! (Wish you could have seen Christopher's face when he first saw Mickey Mouse round the corner! He ran into his arms!) Jimi was once married to a man from Wales, so that is something that we had in common, both married to Brits! Jimi remarried and the gentleman was one of those who always asked for Jimi to book his trips. Sadly, he died a few years ago and I think it is recognized how much that can affect the health of the remaining spouse.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">I am in awe of those who can write so well and give such a great tribute to someone who has died. I find it very difficult. Jimi's daughter, Allie</span><span style="font-size: x-large;"> might read this blog and if she does, I hope she knows that I am sincere in comparing her to Rosalynn Carter. I think it is fitting.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Both of them such strong, kind, beautiful, intelligent women! May they both rest in peace. They make me proud to be from Georgia.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">------------------------------------------------</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Statue from The Monastery here in Rockdale County with <br />Fothergilla bush -In the spring, it has lovely white flowers but, in the autumn, lovely colorful leaves.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIs4zV9TLVbZQ_GOjfgOCuUq6oIomqPg65DiyprLwYMfgUathptujqGm42Rj2Jjta2ou-4mLuTuIh52F3cqG37s3hvJdC3t-5-ovr0b8rNOduZ3VNjkxDSx3tI-ViK72aE5RtgP_9ENinyR14GqSVbRaoJRLSrCmzDOFNBVjgN91KYX4wV5gE8-RtPYa0/s4000/IMG_5688.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="3000" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIs4zV9TLVbZQ_GOjfgOCuUq6oIomqPg65DiyprLwYMfgUathptujqGm42Rj2Jjta2ou-4mLuTuIh52F3cqG37s3hvJdC3t-5-ovr0b8rNOduZ3VNjkxDSx3tI-ViK72aE5RtgP_9ENinyR14GqSVbRaoJRLSrCmzDOFNBVjgN91KYX4wV5gE8-RtPYa0/w300-h400/IMG_5688.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiypsaWG_lCXQGXugyuy6SAjw0MTP_WlGhyphenhyphenSGbm0cg7BBp1a9nqWBPl1EtBLxEIJ2KttfanKo0dSUeSJGgoKZeAEDBeRLr1y0ysg0D9ksE9PG_UEO6IyjoTNvjEaThVfMScc9Bh_Aj12xkpqHCCacm189Z4R2C1c-y7d9hMFpGW4tlu3AC_CJKdtfRC1AI/s4000/IMG_6720.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="3000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiypsaWG_lCXQGXugyuy6SAjw0MTP_WlGhyphenhyphenSGbm0cg7BBp1a9nqWBPl1EtBLxEIJ2KttfanKo0dSUeSJGgoKZeAEDBeRLr1y0ysg0D9ksE9PG_UEO6IyjoTNvjEaThVfMScc9Bh_Aj12xkpqHCCacm189Z4R2C1c-y7d9hMFpGW4tlu3AC_CJKdtfRC1AI/w480-h640/IMG_6720.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"> </span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Not sure if this will stay on my blog for long, but I have the part of the service where her grandson spoke....</span></div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/XpNN7dsKNCE" width="320" youtube-src-id="XpNN7dsKNCE"></iframe></div><br /><p><br /></p>Kay G.http://www.blogger.com/profile/07228498846814735537noreply@blogger.com22tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716894977482967985.post-77158888563817093462023-11-13T18:05:00.002-05:002023-11-13T18:06:51.376-05:00The Dimpker Brothers/Amazing Autumn<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/SszHp8NoDm4" width="320" youtube-src-id="SszHp8NoDm4"></iframe></div><br /><p></p><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Since I wrote my last post about "Now and Then" by the Beatles- I might as well write some more about it! Did you know that it is now number ONE in the charts in the UK? Not only that it is the fastest selling single of this year in the UK. It has broken a record for being the longest gap between the first and last number one single for any musical artist/group. Isn't that wonderful? Even better for me is the thought of young people hearing it and liking it too. The Beatles are for all generations!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">I hope you can hear the cover version by The Dimpker Brothers. They are actual brothers from Sweden, and I think they are really good. Just them singing and playing on their guitars, nothing fancy just a beautiful melody with amazing vocals. Have you heard of any other covers of this song that you like? Let me know!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">November has been amazing with our autumn colors! The hickory trees are golden, the sourwoods are a lovely red or peach color, and the red maples are the brightest red you can imagine! (I don't blame you Canada, I would put that on my flag if I could!)</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibuNbs71iUPu40TV4cjAbHp-KIVZY_aFLZYiguJn5Bijjn_Oh2T5KsyNDcJJiftL8sh6Te8roq1plM3Vkz-LdovIiWxFPnzeYky_amflfkAEHlvcD0iUXDmBq_S3KgiEvk7fAY_Lpd7K8eLwS14ne8x62G4Q54iko3xIOAvfskXA-i4j8VpdLcFJZekRw/s4000/IMG_6582.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="3000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibuNbs71iUPu40TV4cjAbHp-KIVZY_aFLZYiguJn5Bijjn_Oh2T5KsyNDcJJiftL8sh6Te8roq1plM3Vkz-LdovIiWxFPnzeYky_amflfkAEHlvcD0iUXDmBq_S3KgiEvk7fAY_Lpd7K8eLwS14ne8x62G4Q54iko3xIOAvfskXA-i4j8VpdLcFJZekRw/w480-h640/IMG_6582.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqM832jfE-ksBJ3ojJq4NgQ80Wv037yU6JTF4c8FtOFtuDrE0qcWpevbE18hPuKP1K9S7KNKQdIdXboC-uVhsxFYhwU7knM0fcaNdkBSCVN7C0br8_F-2j7T2VVbotQNmnJmoD8JxxVNaZmxjp0tgJt76jQFy-qFGCN2VQJcdDnXoeqTsCCWxbhFlygxY/s4000/IMG_6608.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="3000" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqM832jfE-ksBJ3ojJq4NgQ80Wv037yU6JTF4c8FtOFtuDrE0qcWpevbE18hPuKP1K9S7KNKQdIdXboC-uVhsxFYhwU7knM0fcaNdkBSCVN7C0br8_F-2j7T2VVbotQNmnJmoD8JxxVNaZmxjp0tgJt76jQFy-qFGCN2VQJcdDnXoeqTsCCWxbhFlygxY/s320/IMG_6608.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNcy6_c___P3ZhXZtK-e1M5SdrMfkVr1Al2eC3UOrBTp68M3ylbIazYO7o1nykFo_l9v70VEG9VUUqviRIV-BGxdaHD324nCofyLzwbyuQPOAmo0QwAr_Je3n7fX9fm4BLsaaOz7_U9mzoAJiKzZTh4JTMs89hVuJ5FBZAcs_IUrK87ASLJvF94t_tz-4/s4000/IMG_6587.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="3000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNcy6_c___P3ZhXZtK-e1M5SdrMfkVr1Al2eC3UOrBTp68M3ylbIazYO7o1nykFo_l9v70VEG9VUUqviRIV-BGxdaHD324nCofyLzwbyuQPOAmo0QwAr_Je3n7fX9fm4BLsaaOz7_U9mzoAJiKzZTh4JTMs89hVuJ5FBZAcs_IUrK87ASLJvF94t_tz-4/w480-h640/IMG_6587.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br /><p></p><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB1q23G2cJbBDMkkcq3yHTpyAtjyd9-1Rfd09GwZamjjstJXkdTYPo1x6XZNZcY_WKYKEi7cQ_vSXH6xv4wVcGl0nus6oWu6RTjF5YkiYUxQWz-ppuu6aldfi3mT4bRaVy6XOBXMZlmw6uMUVEL36pNa8tYTJY8SrK7z2a4rjuIjbWoOuCtCszftZ9y_g/s4000/IMG_6628.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3000" data-original-width="4000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB1q23G2cJbBDMkkcq3yHTpyAtjyd9-1Rfd09GwZamjjstJXkdTYPo1x6XZNZcY_WKYKEi7cQ_vSXH6xv4wVcGl0nus6oWu6RTjF5YkiYUxQWz-ppuu6aldfi3mT4bRaVy6XOBXMZlmw6uMUVEL36pNa8tYTJY8SrK7z2a4rjuIjbWoOuCtCszftZ9y_g/w640-h480/IMG_6628.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Aren't Richard's photos just gorgeous? The official music video is above. John's vocals at the beginning of this song just really tears at your heart. (What a beautiful voice he had besides his amazing songwriting skills!) I have to say it right here- I love the Beatles and always will! Seeing them on The Ed Sullivan Show as a child in 1964 was like the world coming into color. It is as simple as that. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">If it is sad for us to watch this video, you also have to think what this must have been like for the remaining two to have produced this- Paul and Ringo. George did his guitar part back in the 1990's when Yoko gave them the tape. (Love you for always, George.) At that time, they could not isolate John's voice but with the technology available now, they did a great job. I, for one, am very glad to hear it.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWoVMHCngQf7-aoolOm2nOdZFDAENADJKNeSf640IcWRB3zwIHJHOcAfJDUlUCdU3YTtRxIpAlq2I4Dx3-4n6Bw_8TM_VoiHG6spqO1KCCpNEgyHsgXyiyGKw-iqyyLA9qzaSo75F4L72lxFWjRBS1dTW-lfs0FDdZoiT1JukwmvCdqBVvELYzaw1uAHs/s4608/IMG_0903.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4608" data-original-width="3072" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWoVMHCngQf7-aoolOm2nOdZFDAENADJKNeSf640IcWRB3zwIHJHOcAfJDUlUCdU3YTtRxIpAlq2I4Dx3-4n6Bw_8TM_VoiHG6spqO1KCCpNEgyHsgXyiyGKw-iqyyLA9qzaSo75F4L72lxFWjRBS1dTW-lfs0FDdZoiT1JukwmvCdqBVvELYzaw1uAHs/s320/IMG_0903.JPG" width="213" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"> "<i>Tangerine trees and marmalade skies".</i></span><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrWnXy6vER_Bqnwu9G5qC5LfzdffC9JH5vSLaxJPH5M5pR8einh8blISa7qt6DHNgdK5mkcQDzpQXpJaJApYnAvA_-j0QuucP6ZthM6ykgSZ8-Q_iqYJeFVuxITQXtQW4Jd6ivdNYvvZJeVRrHIdE5yzMpasLo9pK5tl6RoDMQFUMRdMgHwcv1EG7-SV8/s4608/IMG_0950.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3072" data-original-width="4608" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrWnXy6vER_Bqnwu9G5qC5LfzdffC9JH5vSLaxJPH5M5pR8einh8blISa7qt6DHNgdK5mkcQDzpQXpJaJApYnAvA_-j0QuucP6ZthM6ykgSZ8-Q_iqYJeFVuxITQXtQW4Jd6ivdNYvvZJeVRrHIdE5yzMpasLo9pK5tl6RoDMQFUMRdMgHwcv1EG7-SV8/s320/IMG_0950.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;">We didn't need this song to remind us how much we miss John and George, but it truly brings it home to us.</span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p>Kay G.http://www.blogger.com/profile/07228498846814735537noreply@blogger.com23tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716894977482967985.post-6747236410499399352023-11-02T10:25:00.000-04:002023-11-02T10:25:03.876-04:00Stephen Sanchez (and Sourwood Trees)<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0nLdXXuk74M" width="320" youtube-src-id="0nLdXXuk74M"></iframe></div><span style="font-size: large;">Hey!</span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Just found this young American singer, his name is Stephen Sanchez! Hope you like this song, " I Would Never Fall In Love Again". He is young (his birthday is in just a couple of days- Nov. 4th and he will turn 21.) I read just a bit about him and besides liking Elvis, he also admires the vocals of The Ink Spots! (Who Elvis also really liked.) He played at Glastonbury Festival in June 2023 performing this same song with Elton John. The above video is from the BBC from one month ago. (You know I have that English connection!)</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Anyway, it is November, and I am hoping that you are all doing well and enjoying the autumn. October had its ups and downs but hey, it's a new month now, right? Gotta stay positive-you don't have to but it really does help in life! Oh, and laugh a lot and listen to music! (Did y'all see that comedian I told you about- Nate Bargatze was on Saturday Night Live this past weekend? So funny!)</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Sourwood trees- if you don't know them, you should! </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Stephen Sanchez- if you don't know HIM, you should! Now, for the first time on YouTube, "This Too Shall Pass", written and performed by Christopher!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwCuavitQRU">This Too Shall Pass - YouTube</a></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><i>There! </i>Oh, I do hope you will be able to click on that link above and hear his song! He wrote the song, played the instruments, is doing all the singing (including harmonies) and also arranged the song himself. When we were in Nashville before we went to see Ringo Starr in concert, we went to a local bar where a young man was singing and playing his guitar. After he finished one of his songs, he looked over at Christopher and said, "I was trying not to sing too loudly, since I wanted to hear your harmonies". (C. was singing right along with him, of course!) See? I am not the only one who appreciates Christopher's great voice! </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju2gjrFk1ffBfsPJlaDjcjTSITKqmMq-CAkLWot81ELIt13v-MDzjKLKZcoRn6cSlkJ-qZGOk5lElm4-7HszeMZ8pmwDiGIFbbHZt0c2HY3gMGwVaZB_OK9869QbjK-BwSxxbpbOKfR0hXy7YWqvEsySJVaflQBogCQlKhUEm5NxsqsIcmrPe4i-lr-S0/s4000/IMG_6290.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="3000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju2gjrFk1ffBfsPJlaDjcjTSITKqmMq-CAkLWot81ELIt13v-MDzjKLKZcoRn6cSlkJ-qZGOk5lElm4-7HszeMZ8pmwDiGIFbbHZt0c2HY3gMGwVaZB_OK9869QbjK-BwSxxbpbOKfR0hXy7YWqvEsySJVaflQBogCQlKhUEm5NxsqsIcmrPe4i-lr-S0/w480-h640/IMG_6290.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5IFuTfCM77DWal81QYH9-hz24EbGeAmNqG1KwPxZUY7TS83_o9jLG3qE6EjHsJcNb1vSGY962N3L1mySTpEQCY4zfF2mDjwG6g1YVN1mYD8hne04aPcJlqrkWYtvQ-b7pbBqWdSD3wubQUX6m89zGtPjS_r-WBBqWYSxxswRaiIYcas0blmrEfCv74ic/s4000/IMG_6310.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3000" data-original-width="4000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5IFuTfCM77DWal81QYH9-hz24EbGeAmNqG1KwPxZUY7TS83_o9jLG3qE6EjHsJcNb1vSGY962N3L1mySTpEQCY4zfF2mDjwG6g1YVN1mYD8hne04aPcJlqrkWYtvQ-b7pbBqWdSD3wubQUX6m89zGtPjS_r-WBBqWYSxxswRaiIYcas0blmrEfCv74ic/w640-h480/IMG_6310.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBQwPfDTn1apt8L-o1ekSuv7yY61APuX6ODb9ZTN4mRRZ_ILwrugczjU4Ut1D8po2B1razXkCPAGNRYQ92HdNZn8lRbmViiXqXYEowg9A6cGEC_b3KX8kM3cKj_PMEgBEQNHia-YC9O5oB-xrd_LMG6TlIvtFKcgZET2K4_DE44dM0F5qV00Qw0F8X7F0/s4000/IMG_6266.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3000" data-original-width="4000" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBQwPfDTn1apt8L-o1ekSuv7yY61APuX6ODb9ZTN4mRRZ_ILwrugczjU4Ut1D8po2B1razXkCPAGNRYQ92HdNZn8lRbmViiXqXYEowg9A6cGEC_b3KX8kM3cKj_PMEgBEQNHia-YC9O5oB-xrd_LMG6TlIvtFKcgZET2K4_DE44dM0F5qV00Qw0F8X7F0/s320/IMG_6266.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnMfRgHeEt9x4RNtlU0WbPi3oKoZkwu_gIv7gb1kC28WuC5b9qxkfpsBLqRv6KHB8ty-s8gz6PF1mTTVs4DF-LtHiDJlOEO-gY5UvC-tNXbGa8_DQb2bbjdtp6N0W70-4jqB6fLxbdT1BGr9InBrsrjodtCKGck_SprGW8F5q1LKwexwr6r6ai33kNweM/s4000/IMG_6293.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3000" data-original-width="4000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnMfRgHeEt9x4RNtlU0WbPi3oKoZkwu_gIv7gb1kC28WuC5b9qxkfpsBLqRv6KHB8ty-s8gz6PF1mTTVs4DF-LtHiDJlOEO-gY5UvC-tNXbGa8_DQb2bbjdtp6N0W70-4jqB6fLxbdT1BGr9InBrsrjodtCKGck_SprGW8F5q1LKwexwr6r6ai33kNweM/w640-h480/IMG_6293.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">All these photos are from a local park here in Rockdale County, where we live. It is also in the sunflower family: Helianthus angustifolious! </span><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;">In Greek, "helios" means "sun" and "anthos" means "flower". Therefore, anytime you see the word "Helianthus" you know it is in the sunflower family!<br /></span><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><div><span style="font-size: large;">Isn't it a beauty? We have it in a pot. Back in the Spring, we were walking down Main Street in our town of Conyers and there was a woman selling plants from her front yard. She had a sign saying "Swamp sunflowers" but when I asked her about it.... she said she was sold out. She must have seen the disappointment on my face because she THEN said, "Oh, but let me go and dig some up for you!". Well, you can bet that made me smile! For $2.00, I have this lovely flower blooming just now! It can grow very tall; we just saw some today that must have been 10 feet high! </span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;">Both of these sunflowers that I have shown you are NATIVE to this area! We have seen all of them growing wild, either near the trails where we walk or just growing beside the roads.</span></div></div></div><div><span style="font-size: large;">------------------------------------</span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;">"Yellow Submarine"!</span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"> Richard and I were treated to a wonderful gift from our son and daughter-in-law. They gave us tickets to see Ringo Starr! Oh my goodness, it was most enjoyable! We saw Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band in Nashville at the Ryman Auditorium at the end of September. As lifelong fans of the Beatles, I can't tell you how special this was for both of us! You know I waved at Ringo, and he waved back at me! HA! My son will tell you that is the truth!</span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"> So wonderful to hear a big crowd sing along to "Give Peace A Chance", although it made me feel a bit sad thinking of the two Beatles that are no longer with us, John and George. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2WERRddBESI" width="320" youtube-src-id="2WERRddBESI"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;">My friends, I do hope that you are all doing well. October is flying by now and the colors of the leaves are just beginning to change and today I even had to wear a jacket while we walked! Why just today at the local grocery store, we saw bags and bags of Halloween chocolate and treats. One bag had 405 pieces inside! (Four hundred and FIVE, in case you think I typed that number incorrectly!) Oh goodness, I am remembering going to "Trick or Treat" with my siblings. We walked around in our neighborhood in our homemade costumes carrying paper grocery bags. Sometimes we would encounter older couples who didn't have any candy and they would apologize and say "Please, don't play a trick on us!". Oh my, that made me feel so bad. ("No, no... we would never do that, it's just an expression!" I remember saying that to them!) At the end of the evening, it was so much fun to pour out all the "treats" and look at what we had been given!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">I haven't gotten my "tiger stripe" little pumpkin yet, but I will!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">This is a photo of a past pumpkin! When I told him the weight and dimensions, he wondered how big would that make the pumpkin? We got some (very large) pieces of paper together and sketched the size upon it. Thinking that was the end of it, I kept reading my newspaper and then, started on housework. Noticing that Christopher was very quiet, I went to check on him.... he had gotten those pieces of paper that we had taped together of the huge pumpkin and had colored all of it in orange! Wow, that was so much work! I told him to take it to school on Monday and to show his teacher. He did so and she had him put it up in the hallway on a bulletin board. (It overlapped the bulletin board!) The class then wrote to the couple who had grown the pumpkin, and they wrote a very sweet letter back to the class! </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"> There, that is my pumpkin story! </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">September photos for you....</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKOJwPncHLQgz39IpzzQMAGqRJhXfcM4i3Te8ksWwVbY6WzdRVsQkRJvUG0ZRUKshAsjjLqkTkxtR5skNCL2WJvJISmcUC-pVjUbrXUrckk9s4g8WjPw3DgKEJqkhdTFtxnqx9mz5YgewoDXSnJog0IW9qZZ0GqjcZGxusg__zltoS-oWbhw1iyfwjons/s4000/IMG_6041.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="3000" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKOJwPncHLQgz39IpzzQMAGqRJhXfcM4i3Te8ksWwVbY6WzdRVsQkRJvUG0ZRUKshAsjjLqkTkxtR5skNCL2WJvJISmcUC-pVjUbrXUrckk9s4g8WjPw3DgKEJqkhdTFtxnqx9mz5YgewoDXSnJog0IW9qZZ0GqjcZGxusg__zltoS-oWbhw1iyfwjons/s320/IMG_6041.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;">Our cereus cactus bloomed! "Straight up with no irony" is a phrase that I woke up to recently. The day before I had liked a TV advertisement so much that I paused the TV so that Richard could see it when he came back inside from his gardening. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Here, let me show it to you....</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qEpPJEbZYzg" width="320" youtube-src-id="qEpPJEbZYzg"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;">There, were you able to see it? I have photos here for you from a small restaurant that is only a few miles from our house, but it feels like you are in a faraway place. It is attached to a bookstore which makes it all the nicer for us. This is in a very old house that was once a fair size restaurant. Back when they filmed "Dukes of Hazzard" in the next county over, Carroll O'Connor was here almost every evening to dine. It was called "Michaelangelo's" then and he had good taste because they had very good food. (Once, he was behind me at a stop light. When I recognized him in my rear-view mirror, I mouthed the words, "I love you!" He did a deep bow even while seated in his car! That's a nice memory. Probably told you this story before but I don't see stars every day of the week!)</span></div><br /></div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3dQKvvgfweouAi0ZYem9QrUDhEmxLas64PRmOsF6-UOyNPnjvdsP0neDbMPMt3RKmHWIcUt4-ZD594z1S0RwbIC3uBxfiPkaPXfoGx9-FJVAHPAXwQ0-Rf8Xy1BrTA5Wyemh5TaOwZRGXIWHcl16dBNPcz0T9OinBRxxs2cac-pVvLXaXg8MvQRnEfz0/s4000/IMG_5679.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3000" data-original-width="4000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3dQKvvgfweouAi0ZYem9QrUDhEmxLas64PRmOsF6-UOyNPnjvdsP0neDbMPMt3RKmHWIcUt4-ZD594z1S0RwbIC3uBxfiPkaPXfoGx9-FJVAHPAXwQ0-Rf8Xy1BrTA5Wyemh5TaOwZRGXIWHcl16dBNPcz0T9OinBRxxs2cac-pVvLXaXg8MvQRnEfz0/w640-h480/IMG_5679.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhA-jPOl-mUAEECP4hS5MJUeq_1apm1gEIVdUr6L6gXCCn8Oc1dTf8CXyesITiGRCZtvGjIymKbg2Fl79Hp4NFcx4QWN6z1hcmkzkJHVnPhYDrfTQKDpjpu8NFKBR4POaLVkBhSw_zCqjoVzaPI9364HLOiOSK2PYkeYhsCu4Nbr5PuH97jXFJ0LBUvSYk" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="351" data-original-width="255" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhA-jPOl-mUAEECP4hS5MJUeq_1apm1gEIVdUr6L6gXCCn8Oc1dTf8CXyesITiGRCZtvGjIymKbg2Fl79Hp4NFcx4QWN6z1hcmkzkJHVnPhYDrfTQKDpjpu8NFKBR4POaLVkBhSw_zCqjoVzaPI9364HLOiOSK2PYkeYhsCu4Nbr5PuH97jXFJ0LBUvSYk=w290-h400" width="290" /></a></div><br /><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;">Abracadabra! Did you instantly think of a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat? I just learned that the word has been around for many centuries. It somehow means the equivalent of "I will create as I speak" or "I create like the word". It all seems a bit misty to me as the exact origin of it, but it seems that people felt a certain power to it and would write the word in a triangular shape (like I have shown you above) and have it above their doorways so as to ward off diseases. They did this during the Great Plague of London which was in 1665. Daniel Defoe (the same author who wrote "Robinson Crusoe") wrote dismissively of them doing so. If you get the chance, I wish you could read a bit about Daniel Defoe, I think his life story would make a very good film! One of his books, "The Storm" was about a hurricane that hit Britain in 1704. It is considered one of the first works of modern journalism as he gave first-hand accounts of those who had survived the storm. Florida has just now had another hurricane and I have been watching the news thinking of all those affected. Here is what Daniel Defoe had to say about the hurricane in 1704...</span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"><i>"No pen could describe it, nor tongue express it, nor thought conceive it unless by one in the extremity of it".</i></span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"><i><br /></i></span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;">There, doesn't that sound exactly true? And perfectly expressed?</span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;">There has been such bad news recently but one piece of good news.... did you see the story of the children that were rescued from the cable car in Pakistan? It took them a while to figure out how to attempt the rescue, but they were successful, and all were saved! They showed a photo of the cable car itself and I remarked that it reminded me of a tin of Spam, it was very small, and it only had a metal gate at either end. (I am not criticizing in any way, just observing how small and open it would have been for them, dangling like that above those mountains!) </span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/QzhkxYX8GCw" width="320" youtube-src-id="QzhkxYX8GCw"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;">I have had this video on here before, but I really like it, I hope you do as well! Now, I must tell you about something (and you might have a clue from my post title)....</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Yesterday, I was astonished to witness something on the small sassafras tree beside our walkway. It was a spicebush swallowtail caterpillar. As I was watching it, it began moving on the leaf. It would appear that something was moving out of its mouth...but I have told you before that the false "eyes" are really at the BACK END of the caterpillar....so what I was seeing was the caterpillar sending out the sticky substance to enclose itself inside the leaf. Now, here is the thing...the caterpillar completely turned itself around in a blink of an eye! Truly, it was just like that! One micro-second it was turned with the fake eyes on the top and then, the fake eyes were at the bottom! Flipping caterpillars, Batman! I watched a comedian on TV last night and I am hoping I can find a video for you....</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/cpbplNlSo4w" width="320" youtube-src-id="cpbplNlSo4w"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;">There, hope you can see him! The show we watched was called "The Tennessee Kid" because the comedian is Nate Bargatze and he is from Nashville, TN. In his show, he talks about various things from his life and one of the things that he mentioned is that his father is a clown who later became a magician! (How could he NOT get into comedy, he asks us! LOL!) I just looked up that special "The Tennessee Kid" and it was filmed in Duluth, Georgia in 2019. Gee, if only I had known about it, I could have been at that filming! I don't know why I am just now hearing about him, ya'll probably know all about this comedian, but hey, I don't get out much! If you are able to see this special, I thought it was very funny.... I tried to find the bit where he talked about the film "The Sixth Sense" but couldn't find a clip, so now, you all will JUST have to see it! The clip that I did give you above is about the airport, and I think is pretty funny also.</span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><span style="font-size: large;">Before my computer completely freezes on me, I wanted to tell you that I saw the film "A Midsummer Night's Dream" from 1935! I am sure you all have heard of it, written by William Shakespeare, of course but have you read it? I haven't and neither have I seen a movie about it but now that I have.... just wondering, had Shakespeare been eating mushrooms when he wrote that? Oh dear, showing my uneducated self here but see that film and you will get what I mean. (Olivia De Havilland was the best acting done in that film, in my opinion.) It also reminded me of a poem that had this line: "Who but our friend Will would put a donkey's head in Fairyland?". There, I am paraphrasing that since I can't find the exact quote, but I think you see how the poet came up with that!</span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtrzKHWeFs7EwY3s0HFpjU3neggb-XZIQLcJomRAJS5Gi5i2lm7KF_z9mSxJVyru43ELA05ZUGe3wTig3BkQer3FazlpKuQERWqD5MHGphlETIM1LTnTpuuLoid3MxSYaSHqgQlULEwvn9SbvbgRl6n_wHpf8Y_h66lHk4tGOLe7-Ip45uzbiB0ZTuJ-0/s4608/IMG_0417.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3072" data-original-width="4608" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtrzKHWeFs7EwY3s0HFpjU3neggb-XZIQLcJomRAJS5Gi5i2lm7KF_z9mSxJVyru43ELA05ZUGe3wTig3BkQer3FazlpKuQERWqD5MHGphlETIM1LTnTpuuLoid3MxSYaSHqgQlULEwvn9SbvbgRl6n_wHpf8Y_h66lHk4tGOLe7-Ip45uzbiB0ZTuJ-0/s320/IMG_0417.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div><span style="font-size: large;">The photo that I have above was taken in London back in 2019, so maybe that is why I missed that comedian when he was near me! Notice Shakespeare holding the skull, so that should remind you of Hamlet. Did you know that Shakespeare lost a son who was named "Hamnet"? His son was only eleven years old, and a few years later, Shakespeare wrote "Hamlet". (You might think that I wrote the son's name as a typo, but his son is "HAMNET", and the play is "HAMLET".)</span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-fo5svyBhEbnJ_xtSstnmVPW0UyYHrPN6CCcpije_g1eGYYN4n3MWLAJDDoPa63dtmvjb5Hoe9j7qMqLnJqBzi3_5zTwZyndvz6UocOnvvepYPQTwrILo7o8z2FMkc7GzcrjT_MEmR7oA6w2wht-iz_GpNICCOp7aQ0lk83QEflm_oOcVN4tj7Jr76a8/s5152/IMG_6368.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3864" data-original-width="5152" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-fo5svyBhEbnJ_xtSstnmVPW0UyYHrPN6CCcpije_g1eGYYN4n3MWLAJDDoPa63dtmvjb5Hoe9j7qMqLnJqBzi3_5zTwZyndvz6UocOnvvepYPQTwrILo7o8z2FMkc7GzcrjT_MEmR7oA6w2wht-iz_GpNICCOp7aQ0lk83QEflm_oOcVN4tj7Jr76a8/w640-h480/IMG_6368.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Hope something here has made you laugh or brought a smile to you!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Richard took the above photo in a men's room and thought it was amusing. I mean, why would you wash your shoes in the sink? This was at the Botanical Gardens that we went to back in June. (This sign was NOT in the Ladies' room, only the Men's!) Anyway, if something makes you laugh, it's all good, I say! As long as it's not offensive or mean that is, and I meant to tell you that Nate Bargatze is considered a really nice guy and very funny without resorting to insults or bad language. So, YAY!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Take care, my friends and keep laughing!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"> </span></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p>Kay G.http://www.blogger.com/profile/07228498846814735537noreply@blogger.com35tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716894977482967985.post-43654046916628553412023-07-25T18:31:00.004-04:002023-07-25T18:33:18.946-04:00The Color Pink<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiywrC7_ZCV-FMMTS0EcOPw_oxJU7ZlaiFIEbDYPLwaJRGD32W9GCdmC4W4ZhzzRwfm_X6a-Pw2Gh5bWUl9x_oL9iGHWAAJTu3fKPZUjb-Fxq6kxqfLeGaQgKYuKspMPgP1UBelUH5FPdGhk9wEBSvfw0ELb2tZBuZCMxM576hxB1qSoEak7hFyL8WxPM/s5152/IMG_6274.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="5152" data-original-width="3864" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiywrC7_ZCV-FMMTS0EcOPw_oxJU7ZlaiFIEbDYPLwaJRGD32W9GCdmC4W4ZhzzRwfm_X6a-Pw2Gh5bWUl9x_oL9iGHWAAJTu3fKPZUjb-Fxq6kxqfLeGaQgKYuKspMPgP1UBelUH5FPdGhk9wEBSvfw0ELb2tZBuZCMxM576hxB1qSoEak7hFyL8WxPM/w300-h400/IMG_6274.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-size: large;">Hey! Are we living in a Barbie world right now or what? Wow, the hype over the two movies that were released this past Friday "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" was really something, wasn't it? Did anybody see those movies? Some folks saw both films on the same day! What did you think? I know I told y'all before about the color pink but just in case anybody missed it....</span><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;">The color pink takes its name from the flowers called "pinks". Now this doesn't mean they are all pink in color, got that? Pinks are members of the genus DIANTHUS. The dianthus flowers have a "snipped" look on their petals. You know, like someone has been at them with pinking shears! Pink as a color only came about in the late 17th century. I have fond memories of the "pinks" in my mother-law's garden in England. I have photos of pink flowers for you here but only the last flower is an actual "pink", it is a wildflower that I have shown you before, it is called a "fire pink" and it is the most beautiful shade of bright red. (Sorry it is out of focus, but you can still see the "snipped" petals, can't you?)</span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;">Hope all of you are in the pink, my friends! We have to drive our car to the trail and as were leaving, I looked over and in the middle of the road, there was a .... I couldn't quite make it out, it looked like a big garbage bag that might have fallen off a truck but there was an unusual bit sticking up and... I realized that the bit sticking up was a human arm. I jumped out of the car and went running over, and I saw some other walkers not too far away and shouted that someone had passed out in the road. (My reasoning was that it might be a good idea to have others surrounding the boy in the road, one must always consider cars approaching!) All of them came straight over. This was indeed a young boy, unconscious but with his arm straight up in the air and his other hand clutching a cell phone. What would you do? This is what I did: I was prepared to do CPR on him. (Hey, I have never done it before and I have only taken one class on it, but I was ready.) Before I even got to him, I was talking to him...."Hey, hey- can you hear me?" I got to him and started to touch his neck but then, he moved his eyes. He sat up and rather than looking like a big lump of clothes, very suddenly he looked like just what he was: a young teenager who was hot and needed water. Don't worry, Richard was already on it- he supplied him with one of the cool bottles that he always has for us. His mother came running up the trail to us. Turns out, he and his mother had hiked for several miles and in the heat... we asked if we could do anything for them and she told us that we could drive them back to their starting point which is just what we did.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Now, I wondered about telling y'all about this. I didn't really do anything, it was just that I was prepared to help if I could. It was such a scary thing, truly it was, but I really was ready to do CPR if I needed to do so!</span></p><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Well, thank goodness all was well with that young man but one never knows what can happen!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Okay, let me just try to regroup here and think about some photos and a song....</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">I am showing you some random photos that Richard has taken over the past months as we were walking on some of our local trails. (Oh, except the turtle photo, that was in our own backyard! What? You didn't know we have a wildlife refuge? We do!) That big black snake was right across our path on a trail, and it crawled up right beside that big log and would you believe it, you would never have known it was there. If you are ever hiking in the woods and feel tired, you might not want to sit down on a log. If you are in Georgia, there might be a snake sidled alongside it! (Please note, that particular snake is not venomous, but I still don't want to be right beside it.)</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">This past weekend, I walked out my front door and at the bottom of our steps, there was a big turtle on its back! Oh no! I yelled for Richard, but I couldn't wait for him to see this, I had to help the poor creature! Over on its correct side it went, and is it my imagination, or did he (or she) look grateful? </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Hope you are all doing well, my friends. Stay cool! And be helpful when you can!</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Pj5o1n3ZJvg" width="320" youtube-src-id="Pj5o1n3ZJvg"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ry0mRsE5FL8" width="320" youtube-src-id="ry0mRsE5FL8"></iframe></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p>Kay G.http://www.blogger.com/profile/07228498846814735537noreply@blogger.com26tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716894977482967985.post-86036710478346280432023-07-11T18:11:00.004-04:002023-07-11T18:14:04.357-04:00EARTH <p> </p><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">There is an article in Newsweek magazine that mentions the magnificent monadnocks right here in Georgia! Oh dear, I do wish that we could somehow convey our astonishment at natural beauty without it sounding as if we are on another planet. For one thing, the photo that they give you of Arabia Mountain is at the very top and is therefore the most rock that you will see. (They compare it to a moon scape, I think, and trust me, it is breathtaking to see it!) However, if you care to look back at my blog and see all the posts that I have written about Arabia Mountain, Panola Mountain and Stone Mountain, you will see the amazing wildflowers and trees that grow there! And the rock itself is amazing! Weird? Oh my goodness, I think not! Arabia Mountain, Panola Mountain and Stone Mountain are all beautiful, each in their own way and if you ever spend any time at any of them, you will see this!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">"The Magnificent Places on Earth that Only Appear Other-Worldly Because We Are Heavily Influenced by TV and Films"- there, could that be a better title for this piece in Newsweek? </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8bAxIWnB3Dg4eUpmLi49qAKlkelr65H8exljA_s_bor9rOZnA3m3zC_G4n85p6borpfds1JGIsBbdKWeMA2IMuVPoNSiehrzIuU7PhZ1F-Wf79a3EE35dUhLmiNx8SNuihnO43bkjswlBJAbLJryQyiDTJsZFB805BCUBX8FEWQWh-SAM58tdlOudx1w/s2816/IMG_0411.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2112" data-original-width="2816" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8bAxIWnB3Dg4eUpmLi49qAKlkelr65H8exljA_s_bor9rOZnA3m3zC_G4n85p6borpfds1JGIsBbdKWeMA2IMuVPoNSiehrzIuU7PhZ1F-Wf79a3EE35dUhLmiNx8SNuihnO43bkjswlBJAbLJryQyiDTJsZFB805BCUBX8FEWQWh-SAM58tdlOudx1w/s320/IMG_0411.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Arabia Mountain</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYruzvh6dLDt-XvSGJMgUk4B1-pJwnYYQTVCr20dX2N3Ox_97Xk_1zBCBml257IGfCvcBQiISoLAG9ODCbeSHUNFCtXBeVmm1oClyQYLDzln1Jcnj11gY-Hv4cZNg-D2rMJ1za3HORgxw1xOF3bQNu4yMwIlLsfxfKZtOuiRuTv_tZslJd5LtB8oZtah4/s2816/IMG_0528.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2112" data-original-width="2816" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYruzvh6dLDt-XvSGJMgUk4B1-pJwnYYQTVCr20dX2N3Ox_97Xk_1zBCBml257IGfCvcBQiISoLAG9ODCbeSHUNFCtXBeVmm1oClyQYLDzln1Jcnj11gY-Hv4cZNg-D2rMJ1za3HORgxw1xOF3bQNu4yMwIlLsfxfKZtOuiRuTv_tZslJd5LtB8oZtah4/s320/IMG_0528.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJCFXFhpYOQrGak8dvlbDZY_gSI5qwE28hLIZazLaBoPJeDUtsTYHwQThW-tcEAJEYGcHVmlsMmHODualkSQ6b6VChUgCPjLn9vClmXYES-Ej3ZHUaNe4_QnOoybLQE0wccPLH72YjHk9iJlSjxD4Wu_FLRRQau6P6JWZvbd6x0qO-n3AesdLqi0OgFdo/s4000/IMG_5415.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3000" data-original-width="4000" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJCFXFhpYOQrGak8dvlbDZY_gSI5qwE28hLIZazLaBoPJeDUtsTYHwQThW-tcEAJEYGcHVmlsMmHODualkSQ6b6VChUgCPjLn9vClmXYES-Ej3ZHUaNe4_QnOoybLQE0wccPLH72YjHk9iJlSjxD4Wu_FLRRQau6P6JWZvbd6x0qO-n3AesdLqi0OgFdo/w400-h300/IMG_5415.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;">Panola Mountain</span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQoJmxgfhBGLXJxXGf7bdsnLDcd7GTJHKl5oXFQgl9S4_XCbEKhxgrPQEbA9OS7SURET306LFQUNe4dFlNWdRsoexArf7mXjnLy5BM9RSET9IzJypoAZgEY3VMv4gHAgFcf-YP4IkuIwJnZyTniSk74lHP_aYqxs4tc4iVWpzNAh1yCsKAx0VQGzdXSm0/s5152/IMG_5410.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2896" data-original-width="5152" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQoJmxgfhBGLXJxXGf7bdsnLDcd7GTJHKl5oXFQgl9S4_XCbEKhxgrPQEbA9OS7SURET306LFQUNe4dFlNWdRsoexArf7mXjnLy5BM9RSET9IzJypoAZgEY3VMv4gHAgFcf-YP4IkuIwJnZyTniSk74lHP_aYqxs4tc4iVWpzNAh1yCsKAx0VQGzdXSm0/w400-h225/IMG_5410.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;">Stone Mountain (That's Atlanta on the horizon)</span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">These are all in the Atlanta area. I hope you are all doing well! July is here and I have a few photos to share with you. The following two images are from our back yard, these are "whorled rosinweed" flowers. They are wildflowers that first appeared a few years ago and Richard has encouraged them to grow and now, we have more of them. Now, I must tell you, it took a while to research this one but we believe it to be correctly identified. (A member of the Aster family.) Yesterday, I was so sad when I saw a really scary looking black mass on one of the leaves. I was convinced that the caterpillar had died from some kind of virus that I had read about but today, I saw the caterpillar- big and green and healthy looking! If you look at the video above, you might guess that I will not be touching the caterpillar. No, I just observe it...and since it is on a low branch of the tree, I am crouching down and am usually in broiling hot sun with the temp at almost 100 degrees! (If my neighbors wonder what I'm doing, let them wonder!) Oh, I hope so very much that we see the butterfly emerge from this tree! We are both taking out the Japanese beetles, Richard and I are trying our best! </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLS3Dz-_mH0hwUYdrtsgeSy7J5gjjDovYFKN27X3y8OaW3PdZ6VSBll-nBY7f2VXrxq0v_Ta5oFcv7xTaEHW0CRjiY9zftUCmNw5M40aHPpFid8Bs2wVhG80r9_PZk6IjrK5A0dqqC6lAMZePOAUykkVUQTtIrz-x5ei-jSzX_jmc00Qj4edzXdlK2tgM/s2816/IMG_4697.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2112" data-original-width="2816" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLS3Dz-_mH0hwUYdrtsgeSy7J5gjjDovYFKN27X3y8OaW3PdZ6VSBll-nBY7f2VXrxq0v_Ta5oFcv7xTaEHW0CRjiY9zftUCmNw5M40aHPpFid8Bs2wVhG80r9_PZk6IjrK5A0dqqC6lAMZePOAUykkVUQTtIrz-x5ei-jSzX_jmc00Qj4edzXdlK2tgM/s320/IMG_4697.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;">Another yellow flower to show you! Guess what, I found a fern (it was an Autumn fern) on sale for only $4.00. It was a tiny little thing but we bought it and it is now a very full and frilly fern! (I don't seem to have a photo of it but perhaps I will show it to you on a future post. The photo above was from one of the gardens we visited in June.) Richard is very good in the garden. In England, they would say that he has green fingers! Isn't it funny that in the USA, we say that someone has a green "thumb"? Can anyone explain to me that no matter what it is...in many cases anyway, we Americans just HAVE to say it a different way? Go look it up on your "cell" or "mobile" phone, depending on what country you are in! LOL!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Just observing the caterpillar in the different "instars", makes me think what an impossible kind of dream it must be to become a butterfly! It begins in a very woody area and then it crosses over a cleared area where the power lines are located. Suddenly, you are under more trees, and you are right beside the Yellow River and the shade is very welcome. Alongside the river were the amazingly beautiful Mountain Laurel. (Kalmia latiflolia). I have written about it before! </span></p><p><a href="https://georgiagirlwithanenglishheart.blogspot.com/2019/04/mountain-laurel-pollen-dispersal-by.html">Georgia Girl With An English Heart: Mountain Laurel: Pollen Dispersal by Catapult (Lyman Briggs)</a></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiabB6RqaheVIIrzPh5GDK24hXxGTAxAkHJyRCJ7KBR1-bsM-PoYC5yLnpLi2Azo1QCaXXXok025VVxkHmtxf59iMOwtK5NkjRbmjYRom7lmajEfXff7FANqPTvTLveODyrpZZIGQQltNMYErV6tbAjKaExdUM9vZNwIXo3ZElAE22XrO4Z-D3bogv/s2448/IMG_20190415_121113_156.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2448" data-original-width="2448" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiabB6RqaheVIIrzPh5GDK24hXxGTAxAkHJyRCJ7KBR1-bsM-PoYC5yLnpLi2Azo1QCaXXXok025VVxkHmtxf59iMOwtK5NkjRbmjYRom7lmajEfXff7FANqPTvTLveODyrpZZIGQQltNMYErV6tbAjKaExdUM9vZNwIXo3ZElAE22XrO4Z-D3bogv/w400-h400/IMG_20190415_121113_156.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Aren't these just the most amazing parasols of beauty? I was that pleased when I saw them that I said, "Oh, you are so beautiful". As you must know, that reminded me of a song.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">"You Are So Beautiful" is a song made famous by Joe Cocker. It is an amazing vocal! However, did you know that it was written by Billy Preston? If you watch the following video, that is Billy Preston on the keyboard! I remember reading that it was Paul's idea that he wanted to ask Billy to be a member of the Beatles and John's response was that they couldn't get along as a group of four so why try with five members? (As always, you never know if anything like this was ever said but I found it amusing and interesting.) Of course, he has been called the 5th Beatle anyway! </span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/xUS43Q6N1AI" width="320" youtube-src-id="xUS43Q6N1AI"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;">As much as I love the BEATLES, I do not love the BEETLES that are visiting my sassafras tree just now! What do I do to make them EX-Beetles? I take a thick garden glove and pinch the hard-shelled things off. (You must be quick, they fly off very fast!) Now, as hard as I press upon them, it doesn't kill them but it stuns them enough that I can then place them on the paved walkway and press a heavy flowerpot upon them. The Japanese beetle is not a pest in Japan since it has natural predators. You see, it is essential that we try to keep the Japanese beetles away since the sassafras tree is a host for the Spicebush swallowtail butterfly caterpillar! It is really something. It starts out (in its first "instar", isn't that a great word?) looking like...and I am not kidding.... like a bird dropping! It does that as a camouflage, of course! It even has two fake eyes! It closes itself up into a leaf during the day and comes out at night to feed on the leaves, provided the beetles haven't eaten all the leaves! It gets bigger and bigger and eventually will become a cocoon. And then, hopefully it will become...the spicebush swallowtail butterfly! (It really prefers a spicebush but it will also accept a sassafras!) Now...I might have to do a post about the sassafras tree soon! It's very interesting too! Three different leaves on the same tree? It's true!</span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">If I see a spicebush swallowtail butterfly in my front yard, I will be singing that song again! "You Are So Beautiful"!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">And I will be singing "Get Back" to the Japanese beetles! </span><span style="font-size: x-large;">"Get back to where you once belonged", that is perfect to sing to them! LOL!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Buddy Holly and the Crickets.... John Lennon is supposedly the one who thought up the name of their group to honor Buddy Holly and his "crickets" but instead of "beetles" it became "BEATLES" since John loved wordplay. I'm sure you all know that but just in case you don't, now you do!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhvK_TSnk0K8Z5yvVxDhknJypLdoePdliUh8dlbQRks6K5VXoKqm1J8AF0d_p4_LZoEyivjygVcwmrTfughthpbow7mbF3Arxx1bp8bc-XkI42OUkHnvgcUw8gBHyu6GyejWC58JM9yMHjICkY-1XilcTGkbTs4aEhC_atJywLmnKUwb4h1mvNPDk0arTY" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="101" data-original-width="70" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhvK_TSnk0K8Z5yvVxDhknJypLdoePdliUh8dlbQRks6K5VXoKqm1J8AF0d_p4_LZoEyivjygVcwmrTfughthpbow7mbF3Arxx1bp8bc-XkI42OUkHnvgcUw8gBHyu6GyejWC58JM9yMHjICkY-1XilcTGkbTs4aEhC_atJywLmnKUwb4h1mvNPDk0arTY" width="166" /></a></span></div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /> (This is one of the later instars, where it turns green.)</span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhTvoMD3e7-9rQ_xPhfJoARMh18I5A7oFD__6LDzGAbDcx6-GcO4s6vt06iHDUjKPhO0c3aF-V6jhP7XA-1pfRdLiixDnXxq7BxujErt0BDF-5PAUeiuvWXgXnDvYmF5pGZs6-SR1Zyh5__3IcJ4mS9f7jcCNBrHLx6mGi0osy8sX1DPcKoatOKSE77MAs" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="206" data-original-width="241" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhTvoMD3e7-9rQ_xPhfJoARMh18I5A7oFD__6LDzGAbDcx6-GcO4s6vt06iHDUjKPhO0c3aF-V6jhP7XA-1pfRdLiixDnXxq7BxujErt0BDF-5PAUeiuvWXgXnDvYmF5pGZs6-SR1Zyh5__3IcJ4mS9f7jcCNBrHLx6mGi0osy8sX1DPcKoatOKSE77MAs" width="281" /></a></span></div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /><br /></span><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/wlDmslyGmGI" width="320" youtube-src-id="wlDmslyGmGI"></iframe></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p>Kay G.http://www.blogger.com/profile/07228498846814735537noreply@blogger.com21tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716894977482967985.post-10450130227840070442023-06-15T18:51:00.008-04:002023-06-15T19:11:10.288-04:00Beauty and Design<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWZTH6mQxxeAsDHvCPb-qC6R2Y51_A7yMCZ9bT-Ra-mzfofkuej70d3zsVoqTKIhmHjRR_7YEpQIMEmp-0wTo1ACH3xzUvs722wJKmjs5GXTm4vtisv613loZz2TcFFsYhXzG2WuDgUpOtvoDwG-dXR7g92s6zgKa9znvO79fgEGzYBTdqIRiJFEO6/s5152/IMG_6309.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3864" data-original-width="5152" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWZTH6mQxxeAsDHvCPb-qC6R2Y51_A7yMCZ9bT-Ra-mzfofkuej70d3zsVoqTKIhmHjRR_7YEpQIMEmp-0wTo1ACH3xzUvs722wJKmjs5GXTm4vtisv613loZz2TcFFsYhXzG2WuDgUpOtvoDwG-dXR7g92s6zgKa9znvO79fgEGzYBTdqIRiJFEO6/w400-h300/IMG_6309.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p>Athens Botanical Garden (Athens, Georgia!)</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Ah, beautiful design... I do hope that all of you appreciate it no matter where you see it!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Charles Stanley Peach (1858-1934) was a British architect that I admire. We will soon see the tennis championship games from Wimbledon, England and when you watch them on TV, pay attention to the Centre Court. That was designed by Mr. Peach in 1934, using "board finished concrete" for the first time. Thirty years earlier, he was asked to design the electric transformer stations in London. (Now, pay attention...that would have been in 1904 and therefore would have been in the very early days of electricity.) The most famous of these would be Brown Hart Gardens in Mayfair, London. It is a raised garden OVER the electricity transformer station! Isn't that something? These are his thoughts about the designing of power stations....</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><i>"The amenities of the locality should not be disregarded, and every care should be taken to reduce to the minimum all causes of nuisance or annoyance. The appearance of the building counts for much in these cases."</i></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Sigh, am I the only one who reads that and wishes that we had someone around like that today? "The appearance counts for much"...I do know that everything costs money but how much more would it cost for a building to have some sort of beauty to it? </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">After a full day of designing power stations, Mr. Peach would go home and would work late into the night on huge drawings of King Solomon's Temple at Jerusalem. Hmm....something about one of his many lawsuits that was brought against him by Thomas Edison regarding film. You will have to look it up!)</span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;">Here is a funny song for you! My last post was about the Coronation of King Charles. That was <i>ages</i> ago, wasn't it? What have I been doing? Oh my goodness, I have been working on a book. Oh, didn't you know that I have THREE books? They are as follows:</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Book 1: The Things that Kay Knows</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Book 2: The Things that Kay DOES NOT Know</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Book 3: The Things that Kay Knew but Has Forgotten</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">That first book is a slim one, very slim indeed.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">The second one is so big that it can hardly be lifted.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">The third book is rapidly getting bigger every day!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">What recent additions to that first book of Kay Knowledge?</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Cotyledons- The first two leaves that come out on a seedling.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Blue eyed grass - not really a grass but an iris that grows wild. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Sisyrinchium atlanticum, botanical name. (Beside a trail at Panola State Park.)</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">A small green butterfly- Juniper hairstreak. (On a daisy, it was.)</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">A grey bird with bright white feathers at its front- at the edge of Alexander Lake. (Even though I was so happy to ID it but now I can't remember the name of it so looks like it might be in that 3rd book. It is one that I have never seen before, only seen here in migration.)</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Plains coreopsis- A beautiful yellow flower growing wild beside the road in East Atlanta. It had a dark center in the middle of the flower. We have lots of coreopsis growing wild beside the road but that particular one, I had never seen it before.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">A green anole (a lizard) was on my front steps on a Dusty Miller plant- it was very straight on the stem and as I watched, it ate its own skin! I looked this up and sure enough, that is what I was seeing!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">If you look back at my blog, you will see that I did a post in October and I <strike>told</strike> asked you all to read "Dracula". I hope some of you did so! Guess what! There will be a film coming out in August that focuses on just ONE chapter from that excellent written book! </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">The film title is "The Last Voyage of the Demeter". It is about the ship that carried 50 wooden crates from Carpathia to London. Isn't that something? To have a movie made from just one chapter? I told you that it was a great book! "Dracula" by Bram Stoker was first published on May 26, 1897. If my math skills are correct, that was 126 years ago! Now, will I see the movie? Probably not, I don't like scary stuff! It cannot improve on the book anyway!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/kS7lZXPx9bE" width="320" youtube-src-id="kS7lZXPx9bE"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;">"Jennifer Juniper" by Donovan (I sang this when I learned the name of the little green butterfly.)</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">It has been a lovely cool breezy kind of month, this month of May in Georgia which is rather unusual, but I am not complaining! Flowers are blooming but my tomato, pepper and cucumber plants are wondering what happened to the Georgia heat.
