"Wake Up People! We're Alive!" (The Most Beautiful Day- Der Geilste Tag)

Hey! How are you all doing?  I am happy to tell you that Richard and I just spent two weeks in England! Yes, I know you might be wondering why I didn't mention it but there are some...how should I put this...some criminal types in this area and just in case, I didn't want to have it on here that I would be out of the country! Hope you understand!

Now, after a very long flight (made longer by delays on either end) arriving home quite late, I will be going with my Dad and step-mother to a family reunion today!
Hey, I will be tired but it will be worth it, I am sure.  Not much time again today to look at your blogs or to say much even in this post but I DO want to tell you about one of the films that I watched on the plane.  When you fly these days, it is difficult to view a movie, but I like to look for one in another language and then, it is easier to read the English subtitles rather than try to listen to the dialogue. See, isn't that brilliant! (Go on, you know I am! HA!)
The quote from my post title..."Wake up people, we're alive!" is from a German movie called "Der Geilste Tag" and it is translated as "The Most Beautiful Day".  The character says this line as he is  in a hospice and he shouts it out one morning!  (I am wondering if my one and only German follower has seen this film. How about it, Meike?) It was wonderful!  It made me laugh out loud! If I tell you what it is about you might think it could be depressing, but it is exactly the opposite.
I do highly recommend it!

Even though the trailer that I have found for you is in German, I think you can tell that it is a film worth viewing.

"Wake up, people!  We're alive!"   There, that is certainly something that should make you smile!

You really have to watch those characters leaning on a lamp post!
The green building is a former Taxi stand in London, now converted into a cafe.  Just outside Russell Square, we would walk by it on our way into town! (It amuses me that London is called "town". People would ask us in Eastbourne, would we be going into "town" and they meant would we be visiting London!)
Don't get me started on how I still find American English and English so different!  I must go and get ready for a drive to Martin, Georgia for a family reunion!  Take care, my mates!

  3. Two weeks in England, how lovely! Enjoy your family reunion today! And then -- a good long sleep, I bet! I'll watch for that German movie if it ever comes around on the arthouse cinema circuit.

    1. Thanks! I didn't think I would ever wear leggings but hey, I did so anyway! The reunion was nice and it rained that day and it was so very welcome in this horrible drought!

  8. Hi Kay

As ever it was really good to see you and Richard, and Joan and Peter, and to do the traditional stroll over Beachy Head ( not right over, of course!).

Can't believe you had the stamina for a family reunion between a long flight and your return to work.

Hope the 'hood has been quiet in your absence.

    Kind regards

    H

    1. NO, not RIGHT over Beachy Head!!
You should never underestimate my stamina! After all, I am Claude's daughter!
It was thankfully quiet upon our return for which we were grateful.
Lovely to see you and Sarah. Please give her our best and give our love to your dear parents.
Pat the dogs for us too. xx

  10. It's great to hear you got to spend some time in good old Blighty. I'm glad you enjoyed your time here. I don't think I've even heard of that movie but "Wake up people, we're alive" is definitely something to keep in mind.

    1. Good old Blighty...you know, we tried to look it up, why it is called that, and we could not find the explanation!
See the film if you can, I thought it was very good.

  11. Hope you enjoyed your trip. I watched around ten films going to Australia and back and most of them were very good with four of them in different languages. Film looks like a German version of The Bucket List but it's hard to tell not knowing German apart from the title.

    1. I am very interested in languages and can recognize most of them even though I only speak one! (And the English might even argue with that!)

  13. I've not seen "Der geilste Tag", but then I do not watch many movies anyway, and even less of the German ones - more often than not they are not my cup of tea, I'm afraid. But I am glad you enjoyed this one on the plane.

Great to know you've been to England! You must have been there just in time to catch the heat wave.
Also, I am sure you'll show and tell us a lot more about the past two weeks.
And hopefully, your family reunion is as great as I imagine it. Well, it must be - after all, your Dad's going to be there!!

    2. I like well written, well acted films no matter where they are made! I read that this was a very popular film in Germany this past year and no wonder!
And yes, we DID have the heat wave! It was hot! We really wanted it cooler after our Georgia temps, but hey, hot in England is not the same hot as Georgia!!
And you are right, it was great to be at the reunion with my Dad, he always has a good time!

    1. Hey Dave!
Lovely to meet you and SONdra! (I have spelled it that way since it is the way you pronounce it. We would say SANdra!)
Ah, walking on the Downs on a nice day...nothing better!
I hope next time we can get to Burwash again. Let's eat in that lovely pub with the gorgeous views and then, go to Bateman's! Sounds like a plan! :-)

    2. If you're going to go all phonetic on me, we'd probably say Sahndra. This is a bit like Nick and his dog/dawg thing, remember? (He's 32 now, just to make you feel old). You're always welcome, and a trip to the Bear and Batemans is a must.

    3. Ha! I cherish the memory of that sweet baby boy puzzled over the way I said "dog"! So funny! And I don't have to remember that Nick is 32 now to make me feel old, this last trip was enough to make me know it! HA!
The Bear and Batemans, sounds lovely!

    1. Thanks, Kristi! And I have read that the film was very popular in Germany. It would be funny if he watched it and it was from my recommendation, an American who cannot speak German!

  19. I know exactly what you mean about criminal types that are lurking everywhere. I try to hide the fact that I'm on a trip too. It's too scary who might be reading a post and decide it could be easy pickings.

  20. I agree with you. It's not a good idea to advertise the fact that you're going away anywhere. Smart thinking, 99! :)
