Braves/Marlins Game- July 3rd, 2016- Fort Bragg "Build It, They Will Come"

Baseball!  You might not have any interest in sports at all but please, bear with me and let you tell you something.  If I say, "build it and they will come", do you know that quote?  It is from a great movie starring Kevin Costner, Amy Madigan, Ray Liotta, Jim Earl Jones and ...wait for it... BURT LANCASTER!  It is the 1989 film, "Field of Dreams".  If you have not seen it, what are you waiting for?  Now, this same phrase "Build it and and they will come" is also being used for a very special event.  Tomorrow, on Sunday evening (July 3rd)  in the USA at 8PM Eastern time on ESPN,  there will be a regular season game  played at a military installation, Ft. Bragg in North Carolina! Yes, you read that correctly! This is really an extraordinary thing!  The game will be between the Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins.   What a great way to celebrate Independence Day and to honor the military!  Both teams will also play games on July 4th (the Braves in Philadelphia against the Phillies and Miami to New York against the Mets) but I can just imagine how honored they must feel to be the teams chosen to play this special game in front of the nation's heroes at Fort Bragg.  (After this game the field will be converted to a softball field and will be used for the military and their families.)

Thank you, my friends from other countries for reading this post even if you know nothing of baseball! It is a beautiful game,  Just ask my Dad if you don't believe me, he is the expert!

You all know "Field of Dreams", don't you?  If not, you know I have a clip for you!  Ah, that Kevin...here he is in all his 1980's glory!  Love you, Kev!  Hey, guess what, I have his autograph and besides his name, he wrote, "See you at the movies".  Isn't that wonderful? What a sweetie! And hey, I loved him in his Robin Hood movie, didn't you?  No attempt at an English accent, you gotta love it!

    1. I know! The season started out so badly but lately, they have been so much fun to watch, even if they lose!
      Chopping away! :-)

  2. Are you going to the game? I am going to record it because my Tigers are also playing and they come first. Of course I have seen the movie several times. It was filmed here in Iowa. The property was sold a few years ago and will hopefully be maintained as the Field Of Dreams.

    1. Oh no, I will watch it on TV, hopefully, like millions of others! I was so hoping your would see this post since I knew you are from Iowa! Tell me, when you saw this movie in Iowa, did the audience let out a big cheer during this exchange: "Is this heaven?" and the reply, "No, this is Iowa". Let me know! And I love that you have told me that it will be maintained as "The Field of Dreams".

  4. Very awesome. I heard about it on the news this evening. Being in an Army family I realize how important the recognition and the expressions of gratitude mean. Go Braves!

    1. Hey Lisa! On the Braves schedule, which must have been printed very early, this game was not listed on there at this time. You are an Army brat? I never met one I didn't like! :-) (Sorry, that is what some of my friends called themselves!)

    1. Hey Sylvia! Most of the time I can't stay up late to watch them, recently they had a one hour rain delay which made the game go on really late! Let alone when they go to extra innings! I have to call my Dad the next morning and find out who won! (He stays up and watches no matter how late the game ends!)
Get your chopping arm going! :-)

    1. I wish it had broadcast over the whole country and given more publicity. Tied in with Independence Day, it could have been a time to show respect for the troops. Too bad I'm not in charge!

  8. The Kevin Costner Robin Hood movie is one of my guilty pleasures. I love that movie far more than I feel a Brit (or anyone) should. Getting to play in front of the military like that must have felt like quite the honour, and a real treat for all involved.

  9. I am glad to know someone else who loves that film! You know at the beginning where he returns to England and you see the white cliffs behind him? Those are the Seven Sisters near Eastbourne! Oh, and Alan Rickman was so good! Not to mention Morgan Freeman! And just to top it off. Sean Connery!!
And the Braves lost the game but hey, still a memorable game. It really isn't all about winning or losing.

  10. "Field of Dreams" is a great movie. I like Costner. I have a biography about him...I've always liked him. "Bull Durham" is great, too.
