Fire Pink (Trumpets Should Sound When This Blooms!)

This is a Fire Pink and that RED color is amazing, the photo just cannot capture it.  And as my title post tells you, there should be the sound of trumpets when it blooms! The color is a very bright red and it sways upon a very long stem, which makes it hard to photograph!  Notice, the notched edges of the petals, that is why is in the PINKS family, called this not because of the color "pink" but because the edges are "pinked".  (Think of  "pinking" shears!)
Hey, guys, I have told you this before, you may read my old post just here from two years ago!  I love the wildflowers that grow in this area.  We found the fire pink in the same spot that we have seen it in the past two years, on the Outcrop Trail at Panola Mountain State Park!
=========================================

Carl Wilson, you know his name, don't you?  He is no longer with us but he was one of the Beach Boys and he had a beautiful voice. I was thinking of this video where he was just singing in a small restaurant.  I have it here for you. (And if this makes you sing or hum this lovely tune, you are welcome!)

  1. I've always liked this song...good stuff. :)

Have you seen the documentary "Soundbreaking", Kay? If not it's worth catching upon. Eight episodes in all. I'm sure you, like me, will love it!

    2. You're welcome. It's far too good a documentary to miss for a music-lover such as yourself. I'm sure your son would enjoy it, too. :)

  2. These flowers certainly deserve the sound of trumpets, Kay! It's an interesting idea to connect certain flowers with certain musical instruments, a very nice game for the mind.
By the way, O.K. plays the trumpet :-)

    1. Why, I think that is wonderful! O.K.should give us a concert on your blog, he wouldn't have to show his face! Pretty please?
(Do you say pretty please in German?)

    2. In German, it's "bitte, bitte!" said in a particularly appealing tone and puppy eyes to match :-)

O.K. has not yet even played for just me, Kay, he is rather self-conscious there. But he has been part of his village's orchestra for nearly 40 years and they regularly play concerts. So far, I've not had a chance to attend any of the concerts, but I've already put the date for their Christmas Concert in my diary :-)

  5. What a cute flower with a cute name. It is quite unusual with the five petals, and deserves a trumpet blast for being unique!

    1. It is only a small wildflower but it was described as "strikingly beautiful" in one of the botanical websites I visited. That five petaled beauty begs attention!

  6. The Beach Boys made some really great music. They were one of the boy bands that were able to make not just happy poppy songs but also the really deep and emotional ballads. I loved them. That flower is amazingly beautiful.

    1. The Beach Boys! They were amazing! If you ever get the chance, read this book: "The Nearest Faraway Place", it is a great book about them and their family background in southern California.

    1. This tiny wildflower is one that I think might be overlooked but you know I look for it, now I have seen it and know where it blooms!

  9. You're right, Kay, that little beauty does deserve a trumpet call. Thanks for the song, too.

    1. And I didn't think of this when I wrote the post but really, Carl Wilson had a beautiful gift of his great voice and it must have been hard, being in the shadow of his genius brother, Brian Wilson. Like the little flower here, often overlooked, but most certainly worth attention.
