The Jungle Book...Another Movie In 2016!

My friends, I know I am driving you crazy about future movies but this one looks really good!  "The Jungle Book" is a book written by Rudyard Kipling and it was made into a Disney movie in the 1960's.  ("I wanna be like you-who...I wanna walk like you, talk like you!...Sorry, I loved the voices and the music!) This newest effort looks like it could just as good.
Kaa, the Python will be voiced by Scarlett Johansson and to read about it, you would think that a woman's voice is akin to the devil reading the Bible or something. Good Grief, movie critics, get over yourselves!
Interesting to know. Rudyard Kipling married an American and it was in Vermont in the USA that he wrote "The Jungle Book"!  Sad to say that Mr. Kipling had a falling out with his brother-in-law and he and his wife and family moved back to England. He settled in Sussex but had to find a home where his adoring public would leave him in peace so he found a really beautiful house in Burwash, also in Sussex but further inland from the sea. (Okay, it is so far inland that is not far from lovely Kent!)
If you ever get the chance, you should visit there...it is called "Bateman's" and the house and surrounding countryside is lovely. Luckily for us, Richard has a good friend who lives there! Burwash, I mean, not Bateman's! HA!!!  (Dave, if they ever let you live at Bateman's, let me know!!)
When we have visited Burwash, I loved visiting the pub there and knowing that Rudyard Kipling would have walked through those doors!  I think that the pub was called The Bear and the views over the surrounding countryside are breathtakingly beautiful.  Yes, my friends, I know I tell you that a lot but it is true.
Not sure how many movies I have told you about lately but hey, it is my job to find good things in life!  One thing, I saw a movie recently that just impressed me so very much...it was "Far From The Madding Crowd".  I thought it was one of the best films I have seen in years.
Anybody else seen a movie that you could recommend?

... for the upcoming drama far from the madding crowd the film is directed

  1. My daughter has been carrying on about Jungle Book for ages and can't wait to see it when it comes out. I haven't seen any good films for a while but I am hoping to see Suffragettes very soon, this looks well made and has some amazing actresses in it. Have a good weekend and happy film watching! xx

    1. I notice that the same actress in Far From The Madding Crowd is in Suffragettes also. She is very good.
Thanks again for your wonderful post on Thirsk in Yorkshire, much appreciate. xx

  2. My husband and I took our oldest son to see Jungle Book at the drive-in movie for his first birthday. I fell in love with this cartoon movie. I do not think my son who is now 48 cares about it much but I watch it often.

    1. Your son was lucky! I didn't get to see many of the Disney movies as a kid but I made up for it with my son, you can bet I enjoyed all of them with him!

  3. The Jungle Book is a fabulous story, and Disney specifically kept it light hearted, which is fun but not truly in keeping with the book. Let's hope people enjoy this one, if it's closer to the original story.

    1. It will be interesting to see what it will be like! As for myself, as a child, I needed my movies to be light hearted!

  4. I haven't seen a movie in a while. Usually I catch them years later on TV! This looks good though. My first job was working at a movie theater selling popcorn and candy. Loved being able to get in free! So did my family so they liked my job too!

    1. Like you, I usually have to wait until they come on TV or else on DVD and that happens very quickly these days. Lucky you, to get in free and your family too!!

  5. I look forward to seeing it. Maybe you already know that the monkey king was inspired by Louis Prima who used to swagger on stage with his band following behind him in a swaying line and he was titled the King of the Swingers in his era. Many of Disney's animation team were big jazz fans and the song lyrics reflect that. Watched a programme about him recently.

    1. YES! I do know that about Louis Prima and I LOVE that story! That is one of my favorite parts of the whole movie! You can just FEEL the admiration from the finished product! I have always been able to tell a genuine love behind something! Thanks for mentioning that in your comment, Bob, much appreciated!

  6. My sister and I went to see the first Jungle Book in the cinema with our Dad when we were little. Now, my Dad loved (and still does!) cartoons, and he was always happy to have us as an alibi to go to watch cartoons at the cinema :-)
The music is so good in that movie, and back then, very good artists were chosen to interpret the songs in German. They really are so well done, no translation errors, no second-class voices etc.

    1. I am with your Dad!
How interesting that they did such perfect translations, it gives me an even greater appreciation for Disney.

  7. I like Carey Mulligan (Far from the Madding Crowd). Only last night I watched her as a guest along with Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and Nigella Lawson, on "The Graham Norton Show". Mulligan stars in the new movie "Suffragette" wherein Streep appears, albeit briefly as Emily Pankhurst. Helena Bonham Carter is also in the movie.

I think it's wonderful that the new generations are being introduced to Kipling.

    1. Carey Mulligan, yes that is her name, couldn't remember it when I replied to an earlier comment!
It would be nice for youngsters to appreciate Kipling again. My son loved Riki Tiki Tavi, it was a TV movie with narration by Orson Welles!

    2. Orson Welles...how I loved Orson Welles...what a voice!!!

    3. I can still hear that voice from that cartoon TV movie! If you ever get the chance, watch it....you don't have to have a child with you to enjoy it!

  8. We are awaiting the Peanuts movie which is due out within a few weeks. In past years, we didn't go to the movies very much because the closest theaters were a 90 minute drive, so we relied on Netflix. Now that we are living in Nashua, NH, we go to a movie every couple of months, still not a lot, but a pleasure to be able to do so and we saw The Intern last week. We enjoyed Robert DeNiro's performance very much.

    1. You might guess that I am a big Peanuts fan also! I hope they did a good job with the movie and it brings even more fans into the fold!

  9. Kay, I promise that if I ever get the keys to Batemans, you'll be the first to know. I was there a week or so ago, and the gardens were spectacular (note to everyone else - everything Kay said about Batemans, Burwash and The Bear are all true, maybe even a little understated!). My favourite Kipling story is Puck of Pooks Hill, in which a couple of children from Burwash are transported through time by a faerie to the time of the Roman and Viking invasions (yes, the Vikings did attack Sussex). Anyone who enjoys Harry Potter or Narnia for example will love this, and it would make a fabulous movie.

    1. What, MOI, understating something? NEVER!! HA!!
Nice ever so much, dear Dave, for leaving this comment from Burwash, someone who knows I am stating true facts!
Puck of Pooks Hill, sounds like you should make a movie about it yourself! You may thank me when you win an Academy Award for it or else a BAFTA!!

  10. I hope that when I die my sleepy little town becomes a tourist hub because people are keen to go where I've gone. I enjoyed the Jungle Book and I hope they do a good job of it. To be honest I've kind of given up on movie adaptations delivering.

    1. HA, you make me laugh! I should give up on movies since they have disappointed me so much lately but I live in hope.

  11. I certainly want to see this movie! How amazing it looks...thanks, Kay!

And the saddest part of Kipling's story is the one about his son.

    1. Yes, the story of his son is a very sad one. There is a plaque in the church there dedicated to him, but they do not have him buried there, as I am sure you know.
