Brenda Lee And Peter Noone/ At GA Mountain Fairground!

Please forgive me if I keep telling you about our trip to Hiawassee a few weeks ago.  I really don't get out much!  I noticed some signs there for the Georgia Mountain Fair.  I looked it up to see who might be performing this summer.  To my surprise, Brenda Lee will be there on July 18th and Peter Noone with Herman's Hermits will perform on July 24th.  Gee, I wish I could see them both.

Brenda Lee is also a Georgia girl. She was born in Atlanta and she  lived much of her childhood in Lithonia, which is very close to Conyers! Brenda Lee began performing at a very young age.  When her father died she became the main financial support for her family at the age of ten.  During the 1960's she had 47 US chart hits, being ranked 4th during that time only surpassed by Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Ray Charles.  Pretty good company!
Brenda Lee has always enjoyed great popularity in the United Kingdom. In fact, her opening act in the UK in the early 60's was,,, The Beatles!

THE BRITISH INVASION!  If you don't know what that means, you didn't live during the 1960's.  I loved all the British bands!  The Beatles were a huge favorite, but I loved them all including Herman's Hermits.  The most wonderful thing, we also had great American bands and singers and all of this was playing on the radio, all at the same time!   It was wonderful, truly it was and even as a kid, I thought it was a special time for music.

Peter Noone has been the lead singer and front man for Herman's Hermits since the age of 15.  Born in Davyhulme, Lancashire, he attended college in Manchester and was on a very popular soap opera in England, "Coronation Street"!  He won the Outstanding Young Musician Award at the Manchester School of Music.
I wonder if Brenda Lee and Peter Noone are friends?  They should be, they have the background of being in the music business from a very young age!

The mountains are calling to me again, in more ways than one!
P.S.  The Georgia Mountain Fairground does not know me from a hole in the ground.

  2. I was a big fan of Herman's Hermits when I was a little girl! The only band I liked better was the Beatles. I didn't know that Peter Noone was on Coronation Street!

    1. My sister and I had all the photos of the bands on the back of our bedroom door! The Beatles, Herman's Hermits, The Dave Clark Five and many others!

  3. My God! I didn't realise Brenda Lee was still alive...but then I am, so why shouldn;t she be? She's exactly one month younger than I am...or I am exactly one month older than she is...whatever way you look at it! :)

Both Lee and Noone would be wonderful to see.

    1. I remember seeing a sign advertising a Brenda Lee concert in England in 1985, and I saw that it sold out! She is very popular in the UK as are many American artists that people just mainly remember from the past.

  4. Brenda Lee!? Wow! Little Miss Dynamite. Great voice - "Fever" is a particular favourite. Less certain about squeaky-clean Peter Noone and Herman's Hermits - though I confess to having an LP somewhere - though I'm partisan enough to love British bands of the 60s, especially the Beatles. Great they're both still going strong, anyway.

    1. Peter Noone was on one of our American shows here a few years ago and he was just as charming as I remember from my childhood. AND he could still sing! Goodness me, I really do love performers that you can tell have a lot of joy in their careers. Maybe that is why they are still going strong!

  6. Oh yes, I was a teenager in the 60's and love Brenda Lee and Herman's Hermits.
We don't get to the mountains much now in our older years, driving through Atlanta is a challenge!

    1. Not quite sure where you are in Georgia, but we don't go through Atlanta!
I also can't stand to drive in Atlanta's traffic and avoid it whenever possible!

    1. Yes! I love the Henry the VIII song! It was an old song from the Music Halls! Not too many Americans know about Music Halls, I really should do a post about that!

  9. I loved Brenda Lee and when I had money, I bought her records. I remember when she was a little girl and sang jambalaya on the Red Foley Show. My mom thought it was outrageous for a little girl to be wearing lipstick and singing son of a gun, we'll have good fun on the bayou. My mom would have been sympathetic to Brenda had she known the story behind her. Lots of times we don't know the story behind what we judge. I liked Herman's Hermits, too.

    1. Brenda Lee sang in such a mature voice at such a young age. And as you say, you can see that she had to grow up very quickly.

  11. I think that's when they have that craft show - around July 18. You should go!

I loved Herman's Hermits and used to have one of their albums. Brenda Lee is still performing - amazing.

  13. Oh my gosh! I loved Brenda Lee. When I think of her, I think of "I'm Sorry." I LOVED Herman's Hermits too. And yes, I think of Henry VIII. Except I hear it as "Henery the Eighth, I am, I am" in my head.

    1. Little Richard is most certainly from Georgia!
And I like him too. Believe it or not, he made a great album for children that my son really liked! Hey, I just looked it up. It was released in 1992 and was Little Richard's last album. "Shake It All About".
      Another amazing person from Georgia!
