Best Musical Moment- What's YOURS?

Christopher is on the left!

Hey! What is your best musical moment?  Have you seen a band or a singer that you will never forget, one that you will recall with pleasure for the rest of your life?  Do tell, I want to know!

I have heard Paul McCartney sing "Yesterday" on the stage with just his guitar.  That is a fantastic memory for me but that is not the BEST one!  My most treasured musical memory is seeing our son play at Smith's Olde Bar in Atlanta, Georgia!   Christopher is not only a good singer and guitarist but he is also a songwriter.  If there is one thing you might have learned from my blog, I have a very high regard for songwriters!

It was two years ago that Christopher was on stage and it is my hope that I will be a member of the audience again and see him perform once again!  What a joy!

P. S.  Love you son!   And you know another BEST musical moment is the song that I sung to you after you were born! You know the one!  xx

  1. I have so many. I used to sing "The Unicorn" to all the babies as a lullaby. One day when my second grandson was about 2 years old he walked by the radio and "The Unicorn" was playing. He got this puzzled look on his little face. He looked at me, then he looked at the radio, then he looked at me, and back at the radio. He had a really hard time trying to figure out why a voice that was not mine was singing the song I always sang.

    1. What a great story, I love it! My son loved that song too, but I never sang it to him! It was written by Shel Silverstein, but I am sure you know that!

    2. I did know that. Also unicorns are NOT mythical animals. They are legendary animals known as cryptids. A cryptid is an animal that is possible but has not been proven.

  2. It's difficult to pick just one...I've had so many wonderful musical moments...Springsteen, Bowie, Denver, Theodorakis, McCartney, Johnny Mathis, Benny Goodman, to name only a few...all live in concert....where do I begin and where do I finish? :)

    1. I really do love listening to singers and bands in concert.
Our son playing on stage was truly special for us. He constantly was playing his guitar and singing at home but he would never do so in public.
Imagine our surprise when he called us and told us to go to Smith's Olde Bar, that he and his friends were in a band. AND imagine our surprise when HE was the lead singer and spokesman for the group! So surprising!

  3. Same here, Kay; it's like when someone asks about my favourite book... there are so many books that left a great impression on me, just as there was many a musical moment that became a treasured memory over the years.
In recent years, some have been added that did not involve the music been performed live, but were made memorable by RJ and I dancing.

    1. Love the idea of music being special for you because of you and RJ dancing! Musical artists are special in this world and I am glad to say that my husband and son are in that category!

  4. There are so many... But the best for me is Fleetwood Mac's 'The Chain' as played over all the speakers at the Silverstone race circuit when the Formula One race is about to take place.

    1. Formula One...that reminds me of Richard's Uncle Derrick who died in May, he loved all those car races! I will miss him.
I can see why you like that song, when you hear it, you know what is about to happen!

  5. I remember with, great fondness, seeing the Beatles when I as 11 and being soooo excited! I've seen other concerts and enjoyed them but nothing compares to that very first one! My son used to have a band in high school and seeing him perform was such a fun and proud moment! He still plays his guitar and has written songs but he doesn't do public performances anymore....darn it! Your son is very talented!

    1. You got to see the BEATLES!!! YOU LUCKY THING!! Goodness me, I wish I could have seen them! Our son did one more gig and then, the band was no more. He still writes music and plays the guitar so I am hoping he will do a solo act, just locally for his own enjoyment ...and that of others!! xx

  6. The best musical moments are the lullabies i remember singing to my kids. (Although, with my lack of voice, they may not think so!)

    1. I truly loved singing to Christopher when he was a baby and when he was a boy. We also loved singing at church together, but I noticed that when he moved away and was no longer by my side at church, I didn't sound as good! LOL!

  7. I saw Paul too and it was a thrill, but seeing your own child perform has got to be the greatest thrill.

And Sir Paul, if you ever read this, you know I love you forever but that is the truth! xx

  8. I've heard a lot of live music over the years from a lot of big names but now that I think about it there isn't a single moment that can compare to my mother playing the piano.

  9. My greatest musical moments were (as a kid) singing with my family in the car or around my dad while he played old songs on his ukelele. Although, in the summer of '76' I was doing youth ministry in Peoria Ill, and the Beach Boys performed in an arena in the park. I took my group and we listened for free on the hill above the arena.

    1. I love the idea of singing with joy along with your Dad as he played the ukulele! And you got to hear the Beach Boys! That's great! AND for free, even better! :-) LOVE the Beach Boys!

    1. I was proud to see him perform but since it was all his own talent, it was more joy than anything else...to see him do what he loves he do, that really makes a Mom happy!

    1. I love music but I must admit that I don't love all kinds of music! Much of what passes for music these days....oh dear, I love MELODY and that is sorely lacking! xx

  12. Like the guitar work in the videos. Best song or musical moment (you would have heard or know of ) in the last few years? How about Katy Perry-Dark Horse or Jessie J- Domino :o) I like to keep in touch with modern music icons.......

    1. Hey! Glad you like the guitar, it was hard to hear, that club was way too noisy!
HA! Tell you what, my friend, YOU keep up with the modern music icons, I don't like hardly any of them!

  13. That's so neat that your son is a musician. I've never been to that bar, but you never know.

I'd have to say Crosby, Stills and Nash at Chastain Park in August 2011 (right before 9/11.) And the song Treat Your Children. The band stopped singing and just played, letting the audience just sing the chorus. It made me cry, being part of that.

    1. Oh! I didn't know you were in Atlanta! That's great! Now, if you ever see my son on stage, you can say you are friends with his crazy Mom! :-)
I can just imagine how moving that would have been to have heard the audience sing "Teach Your Children Well". It brings tears to my eyes just thinking of it.

  14. Oops - that should have been August 2001.

  15. That is so difficult to say...But some of my favorite musical memories are concerts at Blossom Music Center in the National Park nearby.......People sit on the lawn with picnic lunches and children dance on the grass to the music, whatever it is.....Fireflies light the meadow....

How wonderful for your son to be so musical. Sounds as though all your family is.

    1. Listening to music with the children dancing on the grass, that sounds lovely.
You are correct! My husband taught our son to play the guitar! Richard is very good...he has a piece that he plays on the guitar, and I am hoping that he will record it for me and I will put it on my blog. Look out for it!

  16. Another memory I could share is that for months after my husband died I could not endure the sound of music. Any music was just too disturbing. And then one night, nearly a year later, PBS had a concert with John Prine and Amos Lee and suddenly I could listen intently and with happiness. Music had come back to me....

    1. Oh Kristi, thank you very much for sharing that with me. "Intently and with happiness"...you know that your husband would want that for you!

  17. What a great occasion, seeing your son perform on stage - a magical moment I am sure. I too have seen the Beatles, when I was a very young teen and they came to Australia. Everybody was in love with Paul, and I was no exception. I still have my program. Other outstanding musical moments for me include a Frank Sinatra concert and seeing the amazing operatic soprano Joan Sutherland. There is also the musical thrill of performing yourself, and I have had a few special moments of triumph, as a pianist, and as a singer in stage musicals and choral performances. What a great topic for a post!

    1. OH, Patricia, you love music too! YAY!! I love the memories that you have shared here and I thank you for them. Do you know that I have realized that music is not as important to many people as much as it is to me. And you can sing and play the piano? Lovely, I need to do a post about my failure as a piano student, but it is sad, so I might not! LOL!

And as always, you are correct.. C. IS very talented! Sigh...our sons grew up very quickly didn't they, boys into men is a startling thing, but that little boy twinkle is always in the eye! xx

  19. Love you too mom! I'm proud to be your most treasured musical memory -- even higher than Sir Paul! I hope to get on stage again soon! And of course I'll never forget "Little Christopher" sung to the tune of "Surfer Girl." Love you!

  20. And you know how much I love Sir Paul! I hope that you will someday write a song that can also be used as a baby's lullaby. Brian Wilson is a musical genius but then, so are you, don't you forget it. xx
