The Lanchester

In loving memory to Derrick, Richard's uncle who died yesterday in England.   May he rest in peace.

Derrick loved cars and he had a special place in his heart for the   Lanchester . It is a British car that you might not have heard about.   Did you see the movie "The King's Speech"?   Apparently, great care was taken in the filming so as to be true to the real story but they used the Rolls Royce for King George when in reality, he really used Lanchesters as his personal vehicles!

I will miss Derrick's great booming laugh and the way that he called everything "lovely".  I might not have agreed with some of his viewpoints but he was so doggone charming and funny, I didn't care...I could forgive him anything!

Here's to you, Derrick.  YOU are lovely. I will remember you always.  xx        Cheers!

    1. Thank you, Mark.
If you see a Lanchester, you should try to take a photo and put it on your blog. Would love to see this car, a real traffic stopper I am sure!

    1. I really need to write a post about my Aunt Leona on my Dad's side and Uncle Jake on my mother's side. Both of them very special to me and they both are gone now.

  6. Sorry to hear about the death of someone you and Richard (and no doubt the rest of his family and friends) loved. I like to imagine our dear departed doing what they would have loved to do during live but not always could, such as I think of Steve playing the guitar with George Harrison, his great guitar hero, and talking to his Dad who died when Steve was 12. So, Uncle Derrick is right now happily driving a Lanchester along beautiful green country lanes with no danger, and a huge smile on his face.

    1. Thank you, dear Meike. You are absolutely correct, it is not just us, but all his family and friends. Christopher wrote a beautiful note in remembrance of Derrick.
I couldn't write many words on this post so I am glad that you were able to capture my meaning with your words! I so agree with you, I told my in-laws that wherever Derrick was, there would be cars and laughter!
I love the idea of your Steve playing with George Harrison and talking to his Dad. Now, whenever I hear George playing his exquisite guitar, I will think of Steve.

    1. Hey Henry,
This was quite a shock for everyone, as you can imagine.
And yes, Librarian (her name is Meike and she is from Germany) is able to use the most perfect words.

    1. I don't usually notice cars but I do know the RR emblem on the front of cars!
Thank you, by the way, for saying this is a nice tribute. I find it very difficult to write about people I care deeply about.

  9. I am so sad to hear of your loss. Wonderful that you were able to know Dick's uncle and care so much about him. We don't have to agree with people's viewpoints in order to love them, do we (thank heaven!). My most sincere sympathy.

    1. Funny thing though, very often when someone shares a view with you, they feel as if you HAVE to agree with them, and they won't stop talking until you say you feel the same way! HA! Derrick wasn't like that, he stated his opinion and that was that. Wish more people were like that! (And I am must say that there would be TONS of laughter regarding almost every subject you can imagine!)
Oh and it made me laugh, I was wondering who was Dick? HA! I have never heard Richard called that, but I know it can be a nickname. Henry calls him "Rick" but everyone else calls him Richard. x

    2. So sorry! I think I was confusing you with another internet friend whose husband is called Dick! I will say Richard from now on! Mea culpa!

    3. No worries! And to make you laugh, I have to say "Rich-ARD" when I say his name, not "Rich-ERD" the way the Americans pronounce it!
To remedy that, I just call him "darlin'"...and you KNOW I drop the G!!!
      HA!

  11. I'm so sorry for your loss. It's funny that a person's laugh is often one of the things you remember most. I can still hear my aunt's laugh and it's 30 years now since she died. What a wonderful thing to be remembered by too. x

    1. Yes, along with their speaking voice Derrick also had a loud voice, and it was most distinctive and memorable. x

I had another notice of a death the day after Derrick's, I will have to do a post about it, it is one of my blogging friends and it was quite sudden and unexpected.

  14. My sympathies on your loss. A lovely tribute to you Uncle Derrick. My husband loves the old cars too, I'll have to share this with him. I love your photo of the path and the gate. Kay I just read your comment about about the death of a blog friend, it is still so sad even though we most likely have never even met them, they still occupy a place in our hearts.

    1. Thank you. I think that Derrick would be very pleased that I did this post, that more people will know about the Lanchester!
One of my blogging friends said in a post recently that he would start calling his blogging friends simply "friends", even though we might not ever meet, we care about each other and isn't that what friends are all about?
Thank you for your comment, my FRIEND! xx
