I Saw The Light - New Hank Williams Movie

Hey!  There will be a new movie that will come out in 2015 based on the life of  Hank Williams  entitled "I Saw The Light".  The actor who will portray Hank Williams will be the English actor, Tom Hiddleston.  (Wish someone could tell me how these English actors can do an American accent so perfectly, I can't figure it out.  Do they secretly speak like us in secret and then they are able to do so when they have to for a movie?  Hey, I don't know....just saying!)

You can see that physically the two men are similar.  I have also read that the actor will also do his own singing.  It is my hope that the movie will be as good the one that was made about the life of Loretta Lynn, "Coal Miner's Daughter".  Sissy Spacek, who portrayed Loretta Lynn in that movie, also sang all the songs herself.  I really like that movie, it is one of my favorites...my Dad's too!

In preparation for this film, both for the Southern accent and for the singing, Tom Hiddleston spent time practicing with the country singer, Rodney Crowell.  There was a song by Rodney Crowell  that I had on a post of mine before...and since I like it so much,  I will have it on here for you again.

So...I hope that this will be a good film.  I love movies about real people!

Hope you are all doing well and staying warm, wherever you are in the world!  Maybe for those in Australia, you might want a bit of our cold!

  2. My favorite Hank Williams song is Lovesick Blues. He was such a prolific songwriter. I like the video of Hank Sr and Hank Jr singing There's A Tear In My Beer too. It raises the hairs on your nape.

    1. I wonder if you also know of Jett Williams? It must have been a difficult thing to find out that someone as famous as Hank Williams was your father. Hank Jr. had a hard time accepting her as a half sibling.

    2. I do know a bit about Jett as well as Hank III his grandson. All talented souls.

  3. Hiddleston really does look like Williams. I hope he can sing as well too. :- ) I was really surprised to discover that Hugh Laurie was British. His accent is perfectly American. I was just as surprised to discover that Alex O'Loughlin of Hawaii 5-0 is really an Australian. He has to sound like he's American raised in Hawaii. He really can't do much of an island accent though. :-)

    1. Ha, you sound like me when someone is doing a bad Southern accent!! Sometimes, they overdo it, and end up sounding like the Beverly Hillbillies!

  5. Sounds good to me, and like you I'm surprised at how well they do the American accent. Americans doing a British one never do as well.

  6. Hi Kay! I think we've discussed this before. Coal Miner's Daughter is probably my 2nd favorite movie ever (after To Kill A Mockingbird). I wish I knew how many times I've seen that movie. I just adore Sissy Spacek in that role. I'm always drawn to movies about the real lives of singers (think Walk The Line). So I'll have to check out the Hank Williams movie when it's out....if I can remember. Hope you've had a lovely weekend, Kay!

Never heard of Hank Williams until reading your post. If it wasn't for your blog, actually, I wouldn't know about a lot of things!

    1. Of course, when this movie comes out, you might know more about him! It amazes me how many look at my blog because of my posts about Louis Zamperini, all because of the movie "Unbroken".

  8. I adore Rodney Crowell...I've a few of his CDs. I look forward to seeing the movie about Hank Williams. He was and still is highly revered in country music circles. I love country music.

I, too, like the movie "Coal Miner's Daughter" and have seen it a few times. Sissy Spacek was brilliant in the film. She was a worthy winner of an Oscar for her work in the movie.

    1. I know, I really like him too, but I think he should be better known than he is. I love country music too but I am afraid that the way that it has gone now has been a bit weird to me.
I LOVE Coal Miner's Daughter! It was directed by an English director, Michael Apted. It took an Englishman to get that Southern movie just right!

  9. Kay, we went and saw "Unbroken" yesterday. Loved it! A most excellent movie. And you know, the actor who played Louie is a British actor too. Another one with a flawless American accent!

    1. OhI I am so glad that you saw it and liked it too! I thought he did a great accent and he ran just like him too! When Jack O'Connell met with Mr. Zamperini for the first time, he tried on his World War II army jacket and it was a perfect fit. I love that.

  10. I have to see this movie! I used to hear Hank Williams a lot on the radio in Nova Scotia ~ It's so sad that he died way too young! Have a good one, Kay!

  11. Hank was a fantastic songwriter. I first heard his songs through other singers covering them like Neil Young and Cat Power then started getting his music from the local library. One of the greats.

    1. Elvis really liked to sing "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry", he called it one of the saddest songs ever written. I have such an admiration for songwriters, I can't tell you how much. I hope they do a good job with this movie, time will tell!
