The Sunflower Blogger Award

Thank you very much, Abigail and Daisy!

Sunflowers!  I love them!  My Dad grows them and just down the road from him they have had a Sunflower Festival for years but THIS year, they didn't have it and I really missed it...so how about a Sunflower Blogger Award?
Everybody needs a Sunflower Blogger award!  I think that each one of you deserve this.  I  stole  got mine from dear sweet Kathy at her blog- Whispering Pines. (AND Kathy and Jack celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary today! Isn't that great! Congratulations to Kathy & Jack!)  She didn't EXACTLY give me this award, she very nicely just said that anyone could take this and so...I did!  And now, I will answer the questions and you may also capture this sweet floral image above for your blog and answer the questions too!  Okay?  Here are the questions and MY answers!

AND if you don't think the Sunflower Award should be given to you since TECHNICALLY it was not given to me...there is no reason why you couldn't answer the questions anyway! Why not give it a go?

1.  WHY DO YOU BLOG?   I think I drove several bloggers crazy with some of my long comments before I started my own blog!   Mieke from Germany suggested that I have my own blog and I am very thankful that I listened to her!  Thanks, Meike!  (You may find her blog just here!)
I blog because I enjoy it!  I love to write about the things that I find interesting and I am thankful that there are so many nice folks who read my blog and leave comments.  I can't tell you how much I enjoy this!!  And it makes my day when I get a new follower! Thank you to all the nice people who read this blog, I really appreciate it. You guys are the best!

2)  ARE YOU AN EARLY RISER OR A NIGHT OWL?  Uh, sorry, I don't even know what my little town looks like at night!  I am most certainly an early riser! (But even so, please don't ask me anything until I have had a cup of coffee!)

3) FAVORITE SMELL?   It would have to be from a flower and it might seem strange to say this because I only smelled it just ONE time! It was from a lilac bush, it was growing over a wall next to the pavement (sidewalk) when we were walking in Eastbourne, in England.  If you have ever smelled lilacs, then you will know what I mean.  Oh! And of course, the fragrance from my Yellow Daisies would have to be a favorite too!
OH! And also, I really love the smell of the sheets after they have been hanging out on the line in the sun...also, another fragrance from England!  Sorry...that's three....so sue me!  HA!

4) IF FEELING SAD, WHAT ONE SONG WOULD YOU PLAY OR SING TO MAKE YOU HAPPY?   Oh, so many songs!  My goodness, I LOVE music, almost any song could do it for me but here's one that came to mind... "I'm Looking Over A Four Leaf Clover"!  (It was written in the year of my Daddy's birth, 1927!)     OH, and anything by Chas & Dave...I love them!

5) WHEN YOU LOOK IN THE MIRROR, WHAT DO YOU SEE?  I see a very sophisticated lady with a great deal of panache...NOT!

6) HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY?  Funny, that made me think of a teacher that I had in the 8th grade, and she told me that I had a scintillating personality, and I had no idea what that meant and had to look it up! I was hoping it was nice! But honestly, goofy is the first thing I thought of!

7) NAME SOMETHING IN YOUR LIFE YOU ACCOMPLISHED THOUGH SHEER DETERMINATION.     I must be a real dud because I can't think of anything like that!

8) WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER THE MOST IMPORTANT WORLD OR NATIONAL EVENT THAT HAS TAKEN PLACE IN YOUR LIFETIME?  For me, the first thing that I thought of was this: The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989...this happened just one month before I gave birth.
The birth of my only child was pretty important to me, so perhaps that is why I thought of it!

9) IF YOU COULD SPEND YOUR LIFE IN A DIFFERENT CENTURY, WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE?  Oh dear, I couldn't live in the past or the future, I will stay in my own time period, thank you!

10) IF YOU HAD TO SPEAK EXTEMPORANEOUSLY FOR ONE HOUR ABOUT ANYTHING,
WHAT WOULD YOU CHOOSE?  That's an easy one!  I would talk about the magnificent monadnocks in this area and all the beautiful wildflowers and trees that surround them! I don't look at them in a scientific kind of way, I look at them as a great gift from God and I am grateful to live so near to them.

And the next time you take a photo of a sunflower, try to get one with not one, not two but THREE bees on it, will you?  I took this photo one year down at my Daddy's and you know he gave me an armful of sunflowers to take home with me, but he made sure they didn't have any bees clinging to them!
UPDATE:  After posting this, I couldn't get the Sunflower Award photo on here anyway, so perhaps that is all for the best, since I really didn't get the award, TECHNICALLY!  You know, I always think that things work out for the best. And if they don't, I MAKE them!  Keep on the sunny side of life!

  1. What fun, Kay! I have so much to catch up with everybody. I'm just taking a small break today from working on our family vacation album and our Hokkaido Trip album. It's so much work! However, my granddaughter and mother are waiting for them so I need to get them done.

I love it that you write long comments. That's the best kind of course.

Would you believe our tai chi teacher has us sing I'm Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover every time we end our session? Before that it was You Are My Sunshine.

    1. Hey Kay!
I hope that you will accept this award, you certainly are like a sunflower to me!
My comments!! Sometime I just type and type and then, when I hit publish, I look and I almost fall on the floor...I can't believe how long a comment I have left! Oh well! :-)
I LOVE that you sing both of those songs! I love YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE too!

    1. Ha! You would think so from my blog, but you need to scroll down and see that sweet little angelic image that says "Dear Lord, please help me be the kind of person my blogger friends think I am".

  3. Well, it's not exactly an award if anyone can just take it, is it? :-)
Still, I like the questions and your answers - it is always interesting to learn a bit more about the people we have come to see as our friends through blogging, no matter how far away we live from each other!
Thank you for having mentioned me. You put it so kindly - I "suggested" that you have your own blog - bullied you into it, more likely, ha ha ha :-D

    1. I know, but still...I don't see why we couldn't consider it a Sunflower BADGE rather than an award....I think we should call them that rather than awards, but hey, that's just me. Besides, I think that ALL of us deserves awards for blogging, and especially anyone who follows me...any of you deserve a very special award!
I really thank you for MAKING me have my own blog. I now know what a fantastic photographer that Richard truly is...if not for my blog, I would not have known.
(And maybe something is telling me that I can't accept the Sunflower Award either....I can't remember how to put it on my blog anyway!)

  4. Sunflowers made me smile whenever I see them. Thanks for passing on the sunflower badge. Who gave you the questions? I do like learning more about those bloggers I follow.
I learned about Meike from her comments on John's Rambles from My Chair. I enjoy her and John.

    1. Hello Tania!
I love sunflowers! And I love the way that sun was shining through the bright yellow petals, it was as if God had a spotlight on it! I know my answers might be silly but they are the truth!
And I am thinking of the followers who were among the first and I thought of you! Thank you! God bless you!

Yes, please answer the questions! Yours will be good! :-)

  8. You asked for it, Kay...so here it is!

    1) WHY DO YOU BLOG? I like to write. I like to tell my stories. And, I like it when others enjoy my stories and my sometime rambling!
    2) ARE YOU AN EARLY RISER OR A NIGHT OWL? A bit of both; but like you, I’ve no idea what goes on in this little town here at night, either. I never go out at night these days (or nights(!
    3) FAVORITE SMELL? Rain as it lays the dust; freshly-ground coffee; sun-dried, freshly-laundered sheets and pillow-cases; fruit…nature… I don’t really know….

    4) IF FEELING SAD, WHAT ONE SONG WOULD YOU PLAY OR SING TO MAKE YOU HAPPY? Eddy Grant’s “Electric Avenue”…maybe…
    5) WHEN YOU LOOK IN THE MIRROR, WHAT DO YOU SEE? I used to see me; I think it still is me, but I’ve changed a bit – for the worse! :)

    6) HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY? Flexible

    7) NAME SOMETHING IN YOUR LIFE YOU ACCOMPLISHED THOUGH SHEER DETERMINATION. A few things, I guess…one was to become a self-taught cook and cooking professionally in restaurants.

    8) WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER THE MOST IMPORTANT WORLD OR NATIONAL EVENT THAT HAS TAKEN PLACE IN YOUR LIFETIME? There have been many…good and bad. The assassination of JFK, Martin Luther King Jr, Bobby Kennedy, 9/11, to name but a few…and if I keep on this train…the bad will overshadow the good. Mandela has to be a standout for good…

    9) IF YOU COULD SPEND YOUR LIFE IN A DIFFERENT CENTURY, WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE? One that was filled with love, goodwill and peace only.

    10) IF YOU HAD TO SPEAK EXTEMPORANEOUSLY FOR ONE HOUR ABOUT ANYTHING, WHAT WOULD YOU CHOOSE? Probably a lot of the stories (all true) that I’ve written and posted on my blog.

I love sunflowers...and that is a magnificent photo with the bees. A one-off of three on! :)

    1. Thanks, Terry! I really had to make myself to this to be honest! If you look at Kathy's post for her Sunflower Award, I think it was about 4 weeks ago!
I think I might be a bit shy, you could call it awkward but let's call it shy, shall we?
Hey! Guess what! My sister is out in Colorado visiting my other sister this week, try to rustle up some good weather, will you? Thank you! :-)
Sunflowers and roses, that sounds lovely!

  11. You can't think of a determination answer? How about doing your blog? I remember the very earliest days when you didn't know a post from a comment (so to speak) and look what you have now accomplished. An internationally loved blog with fascinating postings. Not bad for a goofy one!
And according to MessyMimi Wednesday through Sunday is Yellow Daisy Festival -- Stone Mountain, GA, US (annual arts and crafts festival and fun;)

    1. Oh yes, john, but it should also be noted that I would NOT have stayed with my blog without the help and encouragement of a certain few, and you know that you are one of them! Thanks very much! If you go back in my blog posts, you will see me wearing a yellow daisy festival t shirt, we try not to miss it!

  12. And I thought I would answer your questions as well -

    1) WHY DO YOU BLOG? I like to write. And it's great to be able to ramble from subject to subject because readers come back for more knowing that occasionally there will be bits that interest them.

    2) ARE YOU AN EARLY RISER OR A NIGHT OWL? An early riser. Sometimes in the middle of the night. I think it's called insomnia...

    3) FAVORITE SMELL? New-mown hay. Not only is the smell grogeous but it is so evocative of the countryside. (Yes, I know, freshly spread manure is quite evocative of the countryside as well but it ain't my favourite smell!)

    4) IF FEELING SAD, WHAT ONE SONG WOULD YOU PLAY OR SING TO MAKE YOU HAPPY?
'Raindrops keep falling on my head' fron the film Butch Cassidy anf the Sundance Kid.

    5) WHEN YOU LOOK IN THE MIRROR, WHAT DO YOU SEE? Some old bloke, going bald and wrinkled. I don't know how he hides behind the mirror.

    6) HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY? Empathic.

    7) NAME SOMETHING IN YOUR LIFE YOU ACCOMPLISHED THOUGH SHEER DETERMINATION. Building enormous wooden side gates on my first house. (Don't ask me why I thought if that.)

    8) WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER THE MOST IMPORTANT WORLD OR NATIONAL EVENT THAT HAS TAKEN PLACE IN YOUR LIFETIME? The demolition of the Berlin Wall.

    9) IF YOU COULD SPEND YOUR LIFE IN A DIFFERENT CENTURY, WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE? The Nineteenth Century - in Victorian England - so long as I was reasonably rich. I don't think any century is fun if you are poor.

    10) IF YOU HAD TO SPEAK EXTEMPORANEOUSLY FOR ONE HOUR ABOUT ANYTHING, WHAT WOULD YOU CHOOSE? Butterflies and moths (if only because I know enough to be able to do that). Or looking after the natural world (because that is one of the most important topics to talk about).
