Colorado Wildflowers

My sister moved to Colorado this summer.  My Dad just visited her and he told me that the wildflowers that he saw there were some of the prettiest that he has ever seen.  This is what he had to say... "They are just growing beside the road, they're everywhere and no one has sown them, they just come up, natural, lots of them too, you would love them!"
You know that I would!
I have read that some of the hiking trails in Colorado are called "Century trails".  They are called that because of the ONE HUNDRED or more varieties of wildflowers that grow there!  Okay, I am thinking that Pam should be ready for a visit from her big sis come next July or August!

  1. I love wildflowers. They were all around me in my youth and are now so terribly, terribly rare.

    1. Lady Bird Johnson is one of my heroes. She fought so hard for wildflowers in this country. We need more people like her!

  2. Wildflowers are enjoying a big comeback here in Germany. Many farmers have stopped using some of the worst weedkillers and bug repellants, which has enabled wildflowers to grow again on their fields. Some have even gone so far as to sow them along the border of their fields, especially those farmers who farm "green" (or at least want people to think they do, because it is good for their image and sells their produce).
Also, town councils have started to sow mixed wildflower seeds on roundabouts and so on. Not only does it look a lot prettier than any of the "groomed" landscaping can ever look, it also attracts a much larger variety of insects, butterflies and birds.
I know when you will go and visit your sister in Colorado, it'll mean wonderful pictures for us to enjoy!

    1. I hope that the USA will follow that lead and also stop using so many harmful chemicals but I think this country still has a way to go along that kind of thinking. And I know what you mean about farming "green", the same way of thinking is in England too, but that is in the early stages here!
Also, North Carolina has had several wildflowers plantings for years, but once, again, Georgia is lagging behind!
And if Richard gets to go with me to Colorado, I can promise you will have good photos! :-)

  3. I think you should visit sooner! Can we all wait a whole year to see the lovely photos you'd bring back?! Like Librarian says, the local councils have been sowing wildflowers on spare land and roundabouts and they look so beautiful - much better than the usual perfectly manicured plantings. Hope you're enjoying your weekend. x
