NO Sunflower Festival This Year!

The Sunflower Festival in Rutledge, Georgia has been CANCELLED for 2014. (It is usually near the 4th of July weekend.)  It looks as if it will be back in 2015, so I will just have to wait until then!

On a positive note, I have a photo of Anne Cruz, the organist at our church!  She is fantastic! I have heard our same hymns on YouTube and I always notice that very often, the songs are either too fast or too slow.  Anne gets them JUST RIGHT!  I found a video of one of the songs we did this past Sunday, "Christ Is Made The Sure Foundation".  Looks like this video is from a choir from England.  Hope you will like it.
(And THIS is one that is also just right in its speed, and it is sung beautifully.)

  1. Why has the Sunflower Festival been cancelled?! I remember you writing about it before, and how much I liked the pictures.
I also remember your post about the rocks in front of the church. The church looks so well cared for, bright and airy, inside and out.

    1. They really didn't mention a reason for not having it but after all, it is held on private property so it is totally up to the landowners! I am just happy that they have had one for so many years and it is so close to my Dad's house!
Most of the time, these large rocks would have been taken away at the time of construction of the church, but one of the founding members told me that when they first saw those rocks, it reminded them of the words of Jesus, "On this rock, I will build my church" which he said referring to Peter, of course, but still, the early members thought it was a good thing, and wanted to keep those big rocks front and center!

    1. Why thank you!
And yes, I did take that photo. Richard always has had to work and I have gone to the Sunflower Festival with my Dad. :-)

  3. Speaking of organs, I was noticing lately that many hockey rinks don't have organs anymore and rely now solely on recorded music. Another tradition passes.

    1. We have a real organ at the Atlanta Braves baseball games! I would miss it if they just used recorded music, just does not have the same soul, in my opinion.

    1. I really do love going to that Sunflower Festival with my Dad! One year when we got there and it was busy, my Dad looked at me and said, "If we get separated, I'll be where the music is!" Isn't that wonderful? xx
And don't worry, you know you will see flowers on my posts even without the Sunflower festival!!

  6. It's sad, but sometimes there's a problem with venue, the people who organize, or some other factor. Most of the time, they try to do everything they can before the cancel as the last resort.

No matter what happened, i do hope they can get it going again next year.

    1. I don't have anything against them for cancelling it. It's just that I noticed there were quite a few putting "Sunflower Festival" in a search engine and getting to my blog, and I didn't want them to think that is held EVERY 4th of July weekend, which is what I had written on a post before!!
I hate to think of someone driving all the way out to the country for this and being disappointed.

I know exactly what you mean about too fast, too slow and just right!

    1. There is a beautiful song "Now The Green Blade Riseth", and I think ONLY Anne Cruz gets it just right!!

  8. Too bad about the festival. I'm sure you'll find a ton of fun things to do in your area and I'll look forward to reading about them! Your church is beautiful and I love the rocks on the lawn.

    1. I felt that I needed to put this on my blog since people were finding info from my post from last year when I said that they always have it near the 4th of July! Not to worry, I always find plenty to do!
Hope your Spring is finally sprung!! xx

  9. That is a bummer about the Sunflower Festival. I hope it returns next year.

I do love that hymn - and I know what you mean about organists playing too fast/slow. One of the organists at our church always plays too quickly - it gives the songs such a breathless feel. Those stately English hymns do need to be played at just the right tempo. We used to have a grand organist, an elderly man (who happened also to be a great Anglophile). He always chose the right stops and the right tempo for each hymn. But he is gone, alas.

Really enjoyed the video too. I've never heard the organ at Westminster Abbey (live, I mean). When Mr. M and I went to England a few years ago, we attended Holy Communion at the Abbey, but of course there was no music. The acoustics must be amazing. I've heard the organ at St. Paul's though, and it's definitely something to write home about! :)

  10. Perhaps the very cold winter you guys experienced up that way has something to do with the cancellation.
