Eastern Redbud Tree- Cercis Canadensis

The redbud trees are in bloom!

My jacket is the same color of the trees! It's like cammo!

Never understood why this tree is called a redbud tree, since the blossoms are a purple or pink shade!  It is always the very first one to bloom and for me, this year, these blooms have been a very welcome sight!  This has been the strangest winter I have ever known in Georgia...this past weekend, we had temperatures in the 70's, but today it was in the 40's with a very cold wind and rain.  However, it will be sunny and 70 degrees again by Saturday!  I am not complaining, mind you, I heard that this past Monday, there was snow on the ground in the whole country except for FIVE states, and am happy to say that Georgia was one of five WITHOUT snow!  I have truly felt for all my blogging friends in the rest of the country with all the snow this year!  I am ready for the end of winter!

"A breath of fresh air after a long winter".

"One of the most beautiful native trees".

Above are a few of the things that I read about the redbud tree...and I agree!

(Both of these photos were taken at Stone Mountain Park...you can't see Stone Mountain, but it's there, I promise! And notice the stone wall, and the large rocks placed near the trees, all from Stone Mountain, which was quarried heavily.)

Don't be shy little  redbud, we can see you behind that tall pine tree!

Hey, remember when I had a giveaway recently of my little "all hearts are joined" heart bunting?
I was THRILLED that the winner of the giveaway, Sue from Mr. Micawber's Recipe for Happiness
did a post about receiving her little package! (I mailed it on Saturday and she got it on MONDAY!  How can that be??!)  Please, click on that link and read her post!  Sue has been dealing with health issues regarding her Father, so I am thankful that such a tiny little package could bring a small bit of joy into her life.

Wishing all of you joy and pretty blossoms!

    1. You will love Sue's blog, I know you will!
If I match a tree or flower, I insist on posing with it, I am silly that way! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!

  2. Nothing is in bloom here in Nashville, and even the daffodils seem nervous about coming up. Everything looks brown and burnt . That 70 degree day followed by a night to almost zero did a lot of damage.

    1. You know, those redbuds were just not as colorful as they usually are, most people might not notice but my husband and I did! We were still happy to see them though. I hope everything will recover from our strange weather, I love the Spring!

The doily you made for Sue reminded me of the ones I still have that were made by my grandmother many decades ago.

    1. Hey Scriptor!
I am so happy to see your comment here! Hope you are doing well these days! I knew you would love the redbud trees! You have doilies made by your grandmother? That is so special. I bet hers are spectacular. That little doily I make is a very simple one, but lots of fun to make. x

  4. Your Redbuds look absolutely fantastic!!! We had several gorgeous trees in Illinois that used to give me such a lift in spring. I got a lift just looking at your photos.

  6. Wow, Kay, I am impressed! Much as I like dressing up for an occasion, not even I have clothes matching all the trees and flowers out there :-D
You look fabulous next to that beautiful, beautiful tree! Maybe it is called redbud because the tops of the buds are red before they open up into blossoms?
If the weather over here continues as it is now (we're epxecting up to 18 Celsius this weekend, which is rather warm), I guess the wonderful huge magnolia tree in my road will soon be in bloom, and this year, I am going to take pictures of it and show them on my blog.

    1. Ha! Now you will have to pose with a flower or tree that matches your clothing and put it on your blog!! It might happen by accident that you are dressed in like colors, just like me!
And of course, that makes perfect sense, the buds would be red before they bloom, why didn't I think of that? :-)
Magnolia blooms, I am looking forward to your photos! (Dress in the same color of the blooms and have someone take YOUR photo in front of the tree, why don't you? I double dog DARE YOU! -That is what we used to say when we were kids! Where did that expression come from, I wonder?

  7. Thank you so much for a touch of Spring with your blooming red bud trees. They are a welcome sight. So good to know that Spring is here for some. I live where we are still snow covered for the most part but we are to warm up a bit today so hopefully there will be some melting going on. Hope you have a fantastic Friday!

    1. Well, it might LOOK as if Spring is here for us...but those photos are a bit deceiving. While the trees are a very welcome sight, we have had some very cold nights and even cold days which make this winter very different for us in Georgia. At least our snow and ice are gone, and I hope we don't get anymore any time soon...I have really felt for you and for those with all your snow, I just would not like it! xx

  8. We've had some blooms here, too, although the temperatures are supposed to stay rather low for the swamp the next few weeks. Enjoy the warming up!

  9. Usually the dogwoods are the first trees to bloom here, but this year, which has been way too cold, it's the Japanese Magnolias, also known as Tulip Trees, that are blooming. The Azaleas are blooming too and that's about it.

  10. I've been seeing these trees on my drive home. But I can't stop and photograph them because they line the on-ramp of the highway! The skies have been pretty dramatic too lately (also observed while driving)--have you noticed?

    1. Hello!
Thanks so much for your comment! Now, here's the thing...pay attention to how the redbuds look this year, and then, make sure and notice them next year. We think that they are a bit subdued in color this year and we wonder if it might be because of the cold weather we have had. Still a very nice sight to see, as you know.
Oh, and the CLOUDS!! Are you kidding? We have LOVED them. Just yesterday, after that very gray rainy day, I wanted to spend the whole day just looking up, too bad I had to work. After work, I met my husband and we went on a walk and admired the clouds. Glad you noticed them too!

  12. I love the redbud trees! I love your pink coat mixed in! We have a few here at the Pines, but they won't be blooming for many weeks yet...maybe the end of April. Seeing yours here just makes me excited for ours to bloom out, but the temps need to get a bunch warmer. We actually had 55de. temps yesterday! But today it's cold and more snow is predicted....seriously....have a great weekend!

  14. I love my redbud tree, though it is more in the magenta part of the color wheel! But it will not be in bloom for more than a month, even though it is one of the earliest trees. Still, I cherish the fact that it is getting warmer and daylight savings time begins this weekend!!!

    1. Oddly enough, we noticed our redbuds were darker too and we think it might be due to the colder weather. But hey, what do we know? HA!
I must say, I am not crazy about the time change, it means I am going to work in the dark! :-)

    1. Hey Julie!
That pink jacket is so old. I bought it on the seafront in Eastbourne on a very cool windy day! It is lined in terrycloth, I am sure that is very old fashioned! But it is made in England, so it is well made and I keep wearing it, it tickles me how much I match pink flowers and pink blooming trees!
Glad you have the warmer weather too!! xx
