Hero

Anybody remember my post about the dog captured in a sunbeam?  You may read it here.  While serving in Afghanistan, this family's son rescued this dog.  After their son's death, they fought to bring the dog who they named HERO to the USA.  (The photo shows the dog going out into their backyard and the dog being bathed by a beam of sunlight, as if from heaven.) This TV broadcast tells us that this same family just had their house burn down on Tuesday. The dog was rescued but was not breathing...the firemen administered oxygen to the dog.  Hero is expected to make a full recovery!

I am grateful that this dog survived.  (No one was home during the fire, another dog and two cats were also rescued.)  Thankfully, the family were able to save their son's medals and his American flag.

The title of this post is "Hero".  May I just say that Justin Rollins (the young man who gave his life in Afghanistan) and the firefighters are true heroes to me.  My prayers go out to the Rollins family in New Hampshire.  And I don't wish to sound flippant, but in case the Rollins family reads this, I want you to know that I hope Boston wins the World Series, I am sure that y'all are RED SOX fans!

  1. My heart aches for this poor family. I'm sure glad the dog and cats were saved, but it's awful what they've been through.

  2. I am glad, too, that the cats and dogs were all rescued, and no person came to harm. A small, but to me, sad piece of news from my end: my sister-in-law texted me yesterday, telling me that one of her two ginger-tabby cat twin brothers had to be put to sleep. The two daft little things had somehow gotten hold of some antifreezer and licked it - highly toxic, of course. The younger of the two brothers had always been physically weaker, and didn't make it. His older brother is on the road to recovery and has started to eat again yesterday.
It did make me sad, remembering the cute little cat I played with only a few months ago when I was staying with the family.

    1. Oh, I am so sorry to hear this news. I very much remember your photo from England, and you called them "teenagers" and I was looking for young boys, not knowing that you meant the cats! I hope the older brother is doing better now. So sorry for your sister-in-law, it must have been so upsetting for her. xx

    1. Me and you both! Perhaps the Boston Red Sox could have a "Hero" day and treat the Rollins Family to a nice baseball game next Spring! (We have a Bark In The Park Day here in Atlanta at a Braves game, maybe they have the same in Boston?) Anybody in Boston read my blog, send this suggestion to the Red Sox!

  7. This is so sad, but I'm certainly glad the animals and people are safe. And the medals and the flag......Some people, some families, make enormous sacrifices. Their son must have been an exceptional man.

    1. I know families who have lost all of their belongings in a fire and it is the personal things that they have lost that are so difficult, those things that cannot be replaced.
