People Don't Know When They're Looking At Soul

Sometimes in your life, there might be a song that really speaks to you.  One that might not sell in the millions but one that speaks to you directly.  It is almost as if the singer is saying what you have tried to say for years. Such is the title song of the CD by Glen Campbell, "Ghost On The Canvas".
I know that I am not nor ever will be an accomplished artist and yet, why do I have this sense of understanding perfectly what this song is about?  The reference to "crows in a wheat field" must be to the painting by Vincent Van Gogh.  "People don't know when they're looking at soul",  I wonder if anyone else hears those words in this song and feels such a strong sense of recognition.

If you like, you may read this review.  I agree very much with this writer.  One of the reviewers on Amazon said that after a while, most of the songs sound the same.  Yes, I agree, they are all good!  The incredible musical talent of Glen Campbell just blows me away and his singing voice is so incredibly strong!

I love all the songs on this album, not just this one, but this particular one really surprised me...at one point in the video, when Glen Campbell looks at the camera and says "It takes one to know one", I almost jumped out of my chair, as if he was speaking just to me.

The impression that I get from this music is one of a sincere and unapologetic appreciation of life. Even if that life might have had its ups and downs, the humble thankfulness is very apparent.

  1. Music always speaks to me, too. I don't have that CD. I will have to look for it. He has always been such a good man...hard to see him suffering from dementia..and robbing him of the music of his soul. Blessings- xo Diana

I know, it is so sad but I am glad that he has such a supportive wife and kids!

  2. Hi Kay, love the little Stone Mountain pool. I like the way you sneaked it in at the end there!

    1. Ha, I did sneak that in, didn't I? Richard took that shot, but it was right on top of Arabia Mountain! :-)

    1. I just discovered this CD recently and Richard got it for me for Valentine's Day! (Think I dropped enough hints?)
      Glad you liked it too!

    1. Thanks, Audrey!
That heart was at the base of Arabia Mountain and the sweetgum seedpods had been kicked away by the time we climbed back down the mountain. I didn't make the heart, but I took that photo! Richard took the other one, of course! xx

  5. There are only a few such songs, and only a few such artists who can capture those songs. He's one of them.

    1. I agree. I think he has an amazing talent and even with his recent illness, he is still performing.

  6. Hi Kay! Thanks for sharing this video. I hadn't heard the song before, and I so admire Glen Campbell. Do you know who the faces on the canvas are. Leftmost I think is Johnny Cash, and rightmost is Glen Campbell, but who are the two in the middle? This is like seeing faces in rocks! I also really like the Stone Mountain puddle ~ at least I'm guessing where that is! Have a good day!

    1. Glad you liked this too. If you look at the video for his song "A Better Place", it shows him looking through a photo album, and it shows the photo better there, it is Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens and of course, Glen Campbell.
There is another very quick drop of the ink which forms into Elvis Presley, that is another photo from the album. I love Elvis too! xx

    2. Me too! Elvis is the greatest! I know Merle Haggard and Buck Owens from my TVless radio days, so I didn't know what they looked like!

    3. I did a post about Elvis last year, along with Davy Jones from the Monkees. I know, it might seem strange but there you go, that's me! :-)

  7. My guess for the other two faces on the canvas would be Merle Haggard and Buck Owens? A great song and cool video.

  8. Music, Kay, is, for me at least, the embodiment of all emotions. It has the power to make one happy, sad, utterly miserable, euphoric, contemplative, sleepy or in the mood to dance 'till one drops. On the other hand it can reflect rather than cause how we feel. A soul without music is not a soul.

    1. Oh, thanks so much for your comment!
I find it very difficult to talk about how things affect me personally, things that are very important to me. I am happy to meet someone who does not have that problem!
      I must have music!
