Expect Wonders

"Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders."
Henry David Thoreau, "Faith In A Seed: The Dispersion of Seeds and Other Natural History Writings"

The sweet gum tree on the right is in our front yard and came up in one of the flower beds.   Richard let it grow and we are amazed at how quickly it has grown.  In Autumn, the leaf color is mostly yellow,  with some reddish leaves, and here and there, leaves that are so dark purple that they are almost black.  Lovely tree with leaves like five-pointed stars but because it is a native tree and very common, many people do not care for it.

The photo of our front yard was taken by me just before we got in our car to go to Alexander Lake and the Rockdale River Trail which is at Panola Mountain!    The early morning mist over the lake, the sound of the birds, the bright reds and yellows of the foliage, the fresh smell of lake and trees, and the sun upon our faces made for a very nice morning.

Hope you enjoyed kicking up some leaves with us.  Now, remember our colorful sweetgum in our front yard?  Would you like to see our back yard? Color is all around us! Hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

    1. Dear Meike,
You know the way that you encouraged me to have my own blog, I hope the same will happen for Richard with his photography. I also think his shots are really, really good! Thank you so much, my friend!

And you know the little photo you have there? At first, I thought it was a walrus, instead of two little birds, how funny am I?

    1. So glad you enjoyed it! And yes, I am so fit, I am so fit...if I say it often enough, maybe it will be true! HA HA. I am lucky though, I can walk and gaze to my heart's content, knowing that Richard will take all these great photos to remind me of it!

  7. What beautiful trees! North Georgia definitely is better looking in the Fall than it is down here. A couple of years ago we rented a cabin up near Blue Ridge and the trees were incredible.

    1. I lived in St. Mary's and Moultie when I was a teenager and I remember that there was not a big change of color in the Fall...the good side of it is that you are closer to the beaches there, so you have to remember the positive side of it! :-)

  10. You don't have to travel far to do your "leaf peeping", as they call it now.

    Beautiful photos!

Are you happy that the Saints won yesterday? I am happy for you but sad for us that the Falcons lost! :-(

  11. That tree in your front yard is so nice! I love that it popped up on its own. Those are usually the healthiest!

    1. We bought the cherry trees in our front yard years and years ago (the ones that you see that have no leaves) and the sweet gum is as tall as the cherry trees now!
Those cherry trees are like white fluffy clouds tinged with pink in the spring!

  12. So many people plant exotic plants and ignore their native ones. We have a native plant hedge in our back garden with about twelve different native shrubs and trees in it. The wildlife loves it!

  13. Hi Kay

Autumn is my favourite season and your photos remind me why.

Some years - this one being a case in point - our weather is much better in autumn than summer.
