Be Gentle With Me/Bloom/Squash

You never know what you will find when you are looking at some of your favorite blogs.  Years ago I was reading one of my crochet blogs and somehow stumbled onto a group called "The Boy Least Likely To", a band from England who use some unusual musical instruments.   I came home and told my son about them and he was very pleased to order their CD.   If I am remembering correctly, in the very early days of this group, if you got their CD, one of the mothers of one of the young men in the band would actually knit or crochet a copy of the CD cover for you.  Now, I may have this totally wrong and may have it mixed up with something else so if there are any other fans out there, perhaps you can let me know if this is right?
Since this video was shot, I have recognized the opening tinkling type notes on a Coca-cola commercial...And the pretty girl in this video is Rashida Jones, who is quite a popular actress now, I believe.  (Her father is Quincy Jones, the famous record producer, and her mother is Peggy Lipton,  if you are my age, you will remember her from The Mod Squad!)

There is another song that I just heard about and it is getting a lot of play on You Tube.   It is from a band from Australia called The Paper Kites and the song is called "Bloom".    Let me know if you get a chance to hear these songs and what you think of them.

Squash! I love it in England or in America.  These yellow squash are from my Dad's garden.   I love the way that these two grew together...and the two shall become one.    Squash in England is a drink! And I always like my orange squash when I am there, but I noticed that Coca-Cola is getting much more popular now.  Please, England, don't get rid of your orange squash, I really love it!  Just like I love the squash from my Dad's garden!

  1. Oh, I think "The Boy Most Likely To" are utterly adorable!! I hadn't heard of them before (I don't get out much :) - they are very sweet. I am growing yellow zucchini in my garden (they're just at the flower stage) - are these truly 'squash' or actually zucchini? They're beauties.

    1. Dear Jane,
      Glad you like them too!
These is yellow squash from my Dad's garden. He had some zucchini too (which is green) but I just got one of those, I prefer the yellow squash. I just read about squash...I might have to do another post about it! Yellow zucchini? Never seen one!

    1. Dear Tracey,
I LOVE orange squash! Is it something that only children like? Perhaps that is why people have amused smiles when they see me drink it...oh well, I only have it when I am in England. I like Ribena too!

    2. I think it is also enjoyed by adults, but it was always the offered drink whenever you went anywhere as a child. My grandmother used to have a soda siphon, which gave us fizzy orange squash, the height of sophistication! At parties there was usually the choice of orange squash or Ribena, but it was very rarely genuine Ribena, more often than not some cheap supermarket own brand - very disappointing!

  3. Both these videos are great! But completely unknown to me. I like the whimsy of the first one especially. Never trust a cute animal puppet!

    1. Dear Debra,
So glad that you like them! Ha, I love the wink from the puppet! I really do love my puppets. Jim Henson is one of my heroes.
Have you ever seen any of the movies directed by Julie Taymor? She lived in Japan during the 70's and studied puppetry. If you watch any of her movies, you can see the influence. Also, she co-designed the costumes and animal masks for the Broadway production of "The Lion King", which I have not seen, but have seen the photos and I am amazed.
The two movies of hers that I really like are "Frida" and "Across The Universe". They are so good, have you seen either one?

  4. Let's hope we don't ever get so blandly uniform that the traditional foods and drink of our unique areas are simply obliterated by the giant food companies trying to make us all look just alike.

Fresh squash from the garden is the best, isn't it?

    1. Hear, hear about the giant food companies!
And you are so right, fresh squash from garden is the BEST along with okra, tomatoes, green beans, peas, potatoes and green peppers! ALL of these my Dad grows and gives to me!

  5. Oh, I loved both those videos, Kay! Especially 'The Boy Most Likely To'. Such a sweet one. This is my first year growing veggies and I wanted to start slow, so I had to choose between zucchini and squash. I settled on the former this year, but if all goes well, next year I may grow both. They're both great.

YAY! So happy that you like them too. Wish I could have some of your zucchini! Did I read recently that you could make brownies out of zucchini? You might want to check that out! :-)

  7. Funny you should mention squash because we are currently drowning in zucchini. I'm sitting here researching some zucchini recipes (one can only eat so much zucchini bread!) when I decided to check in on your blog. Hope you had a nice weekend!!!

    1. Hey Audrey!
I love zucchini! My favorite way to have it is this: slice it up and saute it in with some onion in just a bit of light olive oil and a small amount of butter. Season with salt, peppper, seasoned salt and Mrs. Dash (original-dark green top). I do the same with the yellow squash. It's delicious!

    2. And Audrey, my pepper is so good, it is peppper! Don't know how I got so many "p's" in pepper! And my Mrs. Dash is TABLE BLEND, sorry , I get that wrong every time!

    1. Dear Dorothy, I would love to have your squash! My Daddy says he eats so much of it that he thinks he might be turning yellow.
Hope you have a great week too! Pat your little Wilma for me.xx

  9. Orange Squash - a big problem! Kate was 2 years old when we first took her to see her Aunty Sandy in Warner Robins. All she wanted was orange squash to drink - definitely no cola. In those days I had no idea that your Squash was totally different. At one point, in desperation, I asked in one of the stores for Orange Squash to drink. They thought I was totally out of my mind! It took Sandy nearly a week to work out what I was asking for. In the end we resorted to fresh orange juice - heavily diluted - and peace reigned in the house once more. Another case of speaking the same language but not.

Hey, raise a glass of orange squash to me today!

  10. So funny, "Be Gentle with Me" is on repeat here in our house. My daughter loves it! And I really like the lines about not liking the way the bugs look at him. So cute.

    1. Dear Sonia,
What a beautiful blog you have! (Sorry, I really mean that, but it sounds like the big bad wolf to me, guess I read too many children's books in my time!)
Had you seen this video of the song? The Boy Least Likely To will have a new CD this summer, I think I forgot to mention that. Oops, I will go back and add it. LOVE MY EDIT BUTTON!
      Thanks for your comment!

    1. Dear Farida,
So happy that you like this pretty melodic music!
And this is yellow summer squash and I have know this all my life, since this is the main squash grown here in Georgia. We also have zucchini, but I must admit, I never saw the green zucchini growing up.
      Hope you are doing well.
      Thanks for your comment!
