Rainy Night In Georgia

It is nice to have beautiful blue skies but we really do need rain in Georgia.  Perhaps by putting this song on my blog it will make the clouds move in and give us some much needed rain. Pretty please?  Fingers crossed!  My Daddy's potatoes need it!
The song "Rainy Night In Georgia"  was written by Tony Joe White in 1962  and I have found this song on Youtube where he is playing a wicked guitar and singing his own song.   Brook Benton recorded it in 1970 and it was a hit record and then was covered by many artists, including Ray Charles and David Ruffin.

The voice of Brook Benton is so well suited to this song, listen and see if you don't agree.  That deep voice!
At the same time, I love the way that Tony Joe White sings it also.  Songwriters are just in a league all of their own to me, I really admire anyone who can put music and words together in such a memorable way.

Scriptor Senex and Audrey...I wonder what made me think of this song for my post?

  1. It's the Brook Benton version that I know and love although, ironically, it didn't make it into thr UK singles charts. The Randy Crawford version made it to Number 18 over here ten years later.

Thanks for putting it on your blog.

    1. Hey John!
That's the one that I remember too. I liked it then, and I like it now!
And you are more than welcome!

  2. It's a great song.
I hope you get the much-needed rain. As I was typing this I heard on the news that we have 'torrential rain' to come this afternoon.

    1. Dear Tracey,
There was some great clouds that come over us as we drove home from my Dad's today, and we got drops of rain on our windshield (windscreen to you) but so far, that's it!
I loved your last post about the pilot who sacrificed his life so as to save the English town...you find the most interesting things to post about, and I thank you so much for calling attention to him.

  3. We need rain over here too, but have had a good few days of downpour now - not enough to fill up the reservoirs yet, mind you.

Your photos of the USA are beautiful, Kay. We're travel a lot in the States - just keep going back even though we vow we ought to go 'somewhere different this year'!

    1. Thank you so much for your comment! I am so glad that you visit the USA, have you ever been to Georgia? Probably to the Atlanta airport, almost everyone has at least gone through there! :-)

  5. Nice song, Kay! It's raining here today, which I'm grateful for. It's been quite dry here, too, and the garden is not happy about that. I'll try to send some up your way. Sunshine is fantastic, but we do need a little rain at times.

  8. Hi Kay Love the song Rainy Night in Geogia. We are having a cold and wet April here in UK, rather different to this time last year when we were getting ready for The Wedding of the year. My girl had a lovely time in Augusta she also went to North Carolina to visit some more of her boyfriends famiy. Unfortunately she got some nasty insect bites on her legs. Hope you get some rain soon. Sandra A.

    1. Hey Sandra!
Oh, I am so sorry for the insect bites...mosquitoes, I would imagine. They really bother my English husband too. Oh, and I love North Carolina too! North Carolina has the mountains in the Western part of the state and the beach on the eastern side! And they have wildflowers growing in the middle of the interstate highways! It's a beautiful place, I hope she liked it too! Thanks so much for commenting!
      Love,
      KAY
