April Birthdays

Everybody has a birthday. When is yours? Mine is in April and so is my Daddy's!  One of my nephews has one in April and the baby shower that I just went to recently? That baby girl was just born April 20th!  They have named her Esme Reese, which is such a beautiful name.  Happy Birthday to the newest April baby!

Richard always gets the amarylis to bloom almost exactly on my birthday, we have had several of these for many years and they are spectacular.  Lucky for me, they are usually right on the day!

This is my Dad from just a few years ago, and he planted these sunflowers in his vegetable garden, just to see how they would do, and I thought they looked pretty darn good!  I found these sunflower stickers and they looked so much like his, that I had to make this display around his photo and this is on my refrigerator door. Nice smile to see every day!
These were my birthday cards from last April, but I have this photo on here for you so you can see the nice photo that I took at Beachy Head.in Eastbourne, England.  That is my husband, our son, and my in-laws. I think they look like models! Notice the Great Ormond Street coaster?  That is the  children's hospital in London where Richard spent so much time when he was a youngster.  The photo on the edge is of our handsome son when he was 16.   I made those crocheted eggs for Easter decoration. (Just have to have bits of color here and there!)
Richard has his 21st birthday mug on the mantel and there in the middle is the 25th wedding anniversary clock from Henry and Sarah.  See, I did get it over here without breaking it! Thank you!

Can you recognize my Daddy in the photo above?  He was only 18 years old and was in his army uniform, just before he was sent to Germany.  One of the few photos I have him without a smile. Hey, he didn't know me yet!

Happy Birthday,  Sam  and on Easter Sunday!  These are my sister's orchids.  She is so wonderfully talented at all she does,  I hope to be like her one day! Oh, and she is as gifted at photography as Richard.  (But hey, I took this shot!)

The bluebird and the meadowlark photos were taken at my Dad's on Saturday.  The meadowlark has such a beautiful song and that bluebird! People put out boxes for bluebirds (that box next to the meadowlark is where the bluebirds have built a nest) and they need to be on the edge of a field.  We don't see any bluebirds where we live, it is too wooded.  Same thing for the meadowlark, duh...it likes meadows!

The Canadian geese with the precious babies were taken at Stone Mountain Lake.  You have seen the lake from the top of the mountain. Now you have seen the mountain from the lake!  Scriptor Senex, this should look like the postcard that you have on your display board!

Stone Mountain was my birthday present to myself last year and this year too.  (A visit there, I mean, I don't collect mountains!)  I think it is a perfect place to ring in another year on Earth!
And that reminds me, even if it isn't your birthday...it is Earth Day today, so Happy Earth Day!  That is something we should all celebrate. (Unless you are an alien reading this, and if you are, I hope you are a nice, intelligent one and maybe will guide us to a better appreciation of all that we have.)  One lives in hope.

One of my presents to my Dad was a couple of CD's.  My Dad is a big fan of Johnny Cash. He has always reminded me of my Dad.  Johnny Cash was a great singer and songwriter.   Johnny Cash didn't write this song, it is by one of his good friends, Kris Kristofferson.   (Thanks to Andi for the comment below!)

  1. Happy birthday to you and your dad. I just came across from Joanne's blog after seeing your comment. You can revert back to the old blogger you know. You just have to find the place to click the button. I've reverted a few times and am hoping blogger will let me keep using the old, as they've let people keep using the old templates.

  2. Happy birthday to all you April babies! What a lovely post with gorgeous photos. Your dad looks very handsome at 18 in uniform, although being sent to Germany was not a happy occasion. Love that little bluebird! I've never actually seen one.

    1. Dear Martha,
Thanks! And never seen a bluebird? Oh, I hope you will one day. Although, I am quite happy that you love the bluejay as much as you do, many people can't appreciate its beauty as we do! :-)

And my Dad is a mess! Did you read my comment that after his eye surgery recently, he came out shaking his head and saying "Don't do it, don't do it" to the people waiting their turn, and then he broke out into a huge grin, and started laughing and you could just feel the tension ease...that's Daddy for you!

  6. Happy birthday, dear Kay! That sunflower picture is really one worth looking at every day on your fridge.
Are you have (or have you been having) a party as well, or did you "only" go to Stone Mountain for your birthday? (There is no "only" when it comes to Arabia or Stone Mountain - but I didn't know how else to express what I mean, I think you get the idea)
I did wonder what the colourful thingies were, good job you explained that they are crocheted eggs :-)

    1. Dear Meike!
Thank you! And your birthday was recently celebrated too, we are Spring babies!
I'm glad you like my sunflower picture too!
I didn't really have a party, we had one the Sunday before for my nephew which was Easter Sunday, and then, two-weeks later, a get together for my Dad.(My birthday is in-between.) I look at it this way, I get to celebrate for 3 weeks in a row, two times with a big crowd and then, my birthday itself, which is usually a quiet time on the mountain with Richard. So, this is perfect for me!
I crochet bits and bobs and put them up sometimes, just because I like the look of them. I am a mad artist!

  7. Happy birthday! and to your lovely dad. What a great load of photos this post. I would love an amaryllis that has green it, I have never seen one here like that

    1. Dear Jenny,
Thank you! The amaryllis (what is the plural?) that we have mostly red and a few pinks, this is the only white one. This year, Richard has it next to the bright red poinsettia and it is a picture! And yes, Richard is able to keep a poinsettia for a very long time!

Do you notice what looks like balls on the ground around them? Those are seeds from the Sweetgum tree and our son used to call them meatballs!

  11. Happy, Happy Birthday, Kay!!! Hope you're having a beautiful month. Did I mention to you that I'm also an April birthday? Yes, this Thursday in fact. I love being an April baby. I tried so hard to have an April baby too but, of course, having babies on your own schedule is impossible. They just come when they're meant to come, right? Still, what a gorgeous month to celebrate a birthday!!! So cool that your awesome Dad was also born in April... (smile)

Thank you! I love the geese too. We also saw them in the water and you should have seen them trying to get over a barrier rope, some of them made it over but one little one couldn't make it and had to get guidance from the Mother goose! Precious sight!
      Hope you are enjoying April!

  15. Happy Birthday! And just so you know, my cousin Kris Kristofferson, wrote Why Me, Lord? as well as many others that are now "standards."

    1. Dear Andi,
Oh, yes, I do know that and Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash were very good friends, from what I have read!
I love this song, "Why Me Lord" and all that your cousin has written. When next you speak with him, please tell him I said so. I remember him telling a story about Johhny Cash singing "Sunday Morning Comin' Down" for the first time on TV and Johnny Cash was told NOT to sing one of the lines the way it was written, but Johnny (being Johnny Cash) did it the way it was written and Kris Kristofferson loved him so much for doing that. (I hope that story is correct, please let me know if my memory is wrong.)
Now, are you the mother of Les, the one whose blog is Prairie Horizons? Please let me know, I do get people mixed up sometimes!
I can't thank you enough for your comment. I will go back and put in the proper name of the songwriter.
See my previous post on "Rainy Night In Georgia"...I LOVE SONGWRITERS!!!

  17. I am mother to Les of Prairie Horizons.

I wish I could tell Kris of your comments, but we seldom see him as he mostly lives on Maui - and we don't! I don't know the story of the Sunday Morning Comin'Down lyrics, so can't tell you if it is true.

    Hope your birthday was special.

    1. Oh good, Les was one of my first followers! I love her blog, I read it a long time before I had my own blog!
Please excuse my long reply, I was so tickled to see your comment! It said on Wikipedia that the family of Kris Kristofferson "disowned" him after he turned to music and I wonder if that is really true. (Sometimes these things you see on Wikipedia, you have to take with a grain of salt.) I just listened to his song, Closer To The Bone. It is excellent. What a talent. I would be thrilled if I had someone like that in my family!
