Arabia Mountain/Wondrous Beauty

Last weekend, it was unseasonably warm.  This weekend, it was cold, very cold.  Did that stop us from going to Arabia Mountain? No!  We went both Saturday and Sunday.  The wind was fierce but we hurried to get to the top and to the side of the mountain, out of the wind, near the lake... on the way, we saw these  purple wildflowers blooming.

People arrange the rocks in different patterns.  I made the heart above and told Richard it was his Valentine's present.   The rocks in the other photo were at the beginning of the trail and I almost didn't see them.  I love this and am glad that we were able to photograph it! (Well, Richard again, he's the best photographer, don't you agree?)

We were hoping to see some ice and we were not disappointed!  I love this photo that Richard got, just at the beginning of the walk near the base of the mountain.  There was also ice in the vernal pools at the top, but we couldn't linger there for very long since it really was cold.  I think it was in the 30's...Sunny, but cold.

This is the red diamorpha.  It is growing more and more and will soon have white flowers...

Is there anything more pleasing to the eye than sunlight dancing on the water?  Like diamonds to me...
You can't tell but I am really moving in these photos.  I wish I had remembered my hat and gloves!
I know that I write about Arabia Mountain a lot, but it truly is a place of wondrous beauty and we find it to be so in all sorts of weather and seasons.  Hope everything is going well in your part of the world and ya'll are staying warm!
Well, hey!  I almost forgot to say... I found a note in one of my handbags and on it I had written, "Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating in space."  I asked my son about it and he said that it is a song...when he brought it up on his computer, I was very surprised to hear it since the woman's voice at the beginning sounds so much like me!  Well, like me when I attempt an English accent anyway...
I found it on Youtube, so have a listen!

    1. Dear Elizabeth,
I would live on that mountain if they would let me!
To be honest, I knew that Richard took good photos, but I didn't know HOW good until I started blogging.
I really love that one he took yesterday of the ice on the mountain...

  2. Don't worry about going on about Arabia Mountain a lot - it is a beautiful place and I am sure I am not alone in saying that I do not tire of the great pictures and descriptions you bring from there!
Still very cold over here, but it is supposed to become slightly milder by mid-week, around freezing point instead of way below, so I have not left the house more than necessary, and I long for a long walk out in the open!

    1. Dear Librarian,
Sometimes I will have something else that I have in mind to write about, but when I sit down to write it, it becomes something entirely different.
Spring will come again! I remember well seeing the first crocuses in England and being so excited! (The time that I was there was called the coldest winter in living memory.)

  3. No gloves. Brrr. Hope there was a warm drink at home.

I can never tire of seeing your Stone Mountain - it looks new every time.

I liked the video as well as the song itself.

    1. Dear Scriptor,
Absolutely! Cupppa tea as soon as we walked in the door!
I am glad that you liked these views and the video.
To find that note in my own handwriting and not have a clue as to what it meant... I could have just typed that into a search engine, but if my husband or son are around, they are just like search engines!

    1. Dear Audrey,
The wind was fierce! Saturday was especially so and combined with the cold temps, it was very cold indeed.
They have just updated their website and it is
      www.arabiaalliance.org
Check it out, we are so lucky to have all that space so nearby, but MOST people have no idea it is there!

  6. Arabia Mountain sounds like such a lovely place. I've no doubt that if my huband and I lived in your area, we would have visited it many times.

They have just updated it. They are asking for stories of Arabia. You know I will have to write something!

  8. Looks beautiful, but oh, I do not do well in the cold! Even here on the coast it has been cold this weekend. If we could live any where here in Georgia we'd live on Cumberland Island, and in fact we've considered St.Mary's.

    1. Hey! Guess what! I lived in St. Mary's in 1973 and attended Colquitt County High School there! We were only there for a year, my Dad was in construction and helped build the interstate, is it I-94? It was a very quiet place before that interstate was built!
      Cumberland Island is beautiful!

  9. That looks like Jim Carrey in the video - not sure what movie it's from.

I love hearing about Arabia mountain - it's a gorgeous place. Like that pic of the ice on the vernal pools - it's really lovely. And the sunlight on the water :) Looks like it was a windy day or windy in spots as your scarf is fluttering about!

    1. Dear Jane,
      Oh yes, it was blustery!
And that is Jim Carrey, guess what, he is one of my favorites! I loved him in Dumb and Dumber, Liar Liar, and The Truman Show. This movie is called Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind... I have never seen this one, but I think I would like to. Oh and I know that Jim Carrey is Canadian, as is one of my other favorites, Michael J. Fox...I really like them both!

  10. I love to see your observations in Arabia Mountain throughout the seasons. I went to the David Hockney art show in London and he spends a lot of time in the same area, looking at it in all the different ways it presents itself. It's fascinating. (if you get to London before it ends, I recommend it). I think it's possible to get a real feel for the soul of a place if you revisit it different times and seasons.

The voice at the start of the little movie definitely sounds completely English to me, so if you sound like that when you are attempting the accent, then you are doing very well! :)

  11. Dear Jenny,
How funny that you mention David Hockney...do you know the painting, Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy? I was so surprised by that painting. The man in the painting looks exactly like my Richard when he was in his early 20's, and the woman looks like his cousin, Julie! I mean he has them down so precisely it is uncanny, even down to how Richard tilts his head. I would love to see his paintings on London and to see it represented in all seasons! ONE of the things that I love about Monet (and there are many!) is that he LOVED London so much! I LOVED that he enjoyed seeing the Houses of Parliament in all kinds of weather and painted that scene so often!
OH, and I can sound VERY English to American ears, but in England, as I have said before, I am compared to Dick VanDyke from Mary Poppins!

  12. While you were there we climbed the stairs at Amicalola State Park. Yes, it was 37 degrees out there. Very cold. But, I found my first trillium plant of the season. You can see our pictures at www.trilliumtraveler.com. Thanks for posting this. We were wondering if Arabia Mountain had wildflowers yet.

  13. Dear Richard,
Love your photos of the trilliums! I love that red one kind of hiding, you could easily miss it! We saw more wildflowers but they were so tiny...we need a better camera!
Have you ever seen the yellow daisies in the Fall? If you look at my earlier posts, I think the one titled "Yellow Flowers Mark the Way" was in October of last year, we were just astounded by the beauty! Not to mention the change of leaves at Stone Mountain in early Novemember...look back and my blog and let me know what you think!
